LINTON GARTH LOCKERBY Passed away at the Boundary Trails Health Centre, Winkler, MB, on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at the age of 60 years, Linton Garth Lockerby, of Morden, formerly of Neepawa, MB. Garth leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Sandra (nee Todd); daughter Tannys (James) Steele of Manitou; son Todd (Cherilyn) Lockerby of Neepawa; three grandchildren, Angus, Laird and Callista; mother Marguerite Lockerby of Brandon; sisters, Barbara (Don) Withers of Cartwright, Lois Goodhew of Richmond, BC, Joyce (Del) McDougall of Nesbitt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Garth was predeceased by his father Hersel in 1975 and by a brother-in-law Wayne Goodhew in 2003. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the Baldur United Church with Rev. Doug Craig officiating. Interment will take place in the Baldur Cemetery. Friends that so desire, memoriams may be made in Garth's memory to the Boundary Trails Palliative Care Unit, Box 2000, Station Main, Winkler, MB R6W 1H8, or to a charity of one's choice. LUISA LIMA MEDEIROS Peacefully, on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, Luisa passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age 84 years. Luisa is survived by her husband Gabriel; daughters, Zenaida, Dolores (Joao), Adriana, Conceicao, Lucia (Lionel), Aldora (Humberto), Natalia (Carlos) and Maria (Steve); son Mario (Natividade); 30 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Brizida and brother Arcenio (Iria). Luisa was born in Sao Miguel, Azores on June 29, 1920. She immigrated to Canada in 1974 with her four daughters and her son. Family was most important to her. She was a member of the Carmelites. A prayer service will be held on Friday, September 3 at 8:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. Mass Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Rev. Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

IRENE SHIPLEY Peacefully, at the Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton, ON, on Wednesday, September 1, 2004. Irene Shipley at the age of 86 years, dearly beloved wife of the late Ron; loving mother of Diane and her husband the late John Myles, Jeannette and her husband Steven Harrison and Patricia and her husband Ken Siebert; loving grandmother to Cynthia, Lisa, David, Christopher, Sarah, Harold and David; dear sister of the late George McConkey and his wife Julie. Sadly missed by her relatives and friends. Friends may call at the Ward Funeral Home, "Brampton Chapel", 52 Main St. S., (Hwy. 10) Brampton, ON; from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Saturday, and 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Complete service in the chapel on Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation, would be greatly appreciated by the family. A special thanks to the staff at Southbrook Lodge and the Cardiology Ward at Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton.

GUDRUN TOMES Peacefully, and surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 30, 2004 at the Middlechurch Nursing Home. Gudrun Tomes, aged 95, formerly of St. James, passed away. Runa was predeceased by her husband Daniel; parents, Julius and Gudrun; three brothers, Barney, Erikur, Hallie; and three sisters, Jona, Jean and Mary. Runa is survived by her loving children, Shirley Smith (Norman) of East Selkirk, Donna Buchanan (Barrie) of Lacombe, AB and John (Linda) of Headingley. Ten grandchildren, Wayne, Wendy (Tony), Wanda (Brian), Glenn (Aline), Sean, Trevor, Dean, Christopher (Kiera), Jason, and Amanda. Nine great-grandchildren, Carley, Michelle, Joshua, Anthony, Kira, Darian, Aiden, Alexis and Malcolm. Runa was born in Coldsprings, MB and spent her early years in Lundar, MB. She moved to Winnipeg at the young age of 17 to find work. It was here that Mother met Dad at the tender age of 20 and one year later they married and lived and loved together for 56 years. Mom had many interests during her life participating in bowling, curling, and card clubs. Her greatest joy was in opening her home to family and friends alike. You could always count on a good time and good food at Runa's. Mother especially enjoyed spending time with her children and in later years with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "Grandma, our hearts are overflowing with love for you. We are blessed with all of the wonderful memories. We will miss your loving heart, warm touches and beautiful smile. We take comfort and are at peace knowing you are now with your "Danny Boy". Just remember "It will be all right dear". We would like to especially thank all of the wonderful people at Middlechurch Home for the love, kindness and care they have shown to our mother. A celebration of her life will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2004 at 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with interment at Brookside Cemetery. Arrangements by Thomson In The Park 925-1120.

ANN VANCE

ANN DUNCAN CAMPBELL VANCE (nee LUMSDEN) 1912 - 2004 Ann quietly passed away at the age of 92 on September 1, at The Fred Douglas Lodge. She went to her final sleep peacefully. She is survived by her son Earl (Susan) and daughter Diana (Bob Ward) and the grandchildren, Liza Vance, Cheryl (Matt) Brough, Kathy Ward (Adam Scott), James Ward and his daughter Kelly Dyke (great-granddaughter) and her sister Violet (Vi) Ketcheson of Detroit, MI. She is predeceased by her husband Jack in 2003; brothers, Alex, Bill, George and Reg and by sisters, Isabel, Winnie and Edna. Ann was born on March 15, 1912 just outside of Dugald, MB. Over a period of years until the age of 13 she lived with various families, finally ending up with Jim and Minnie Taylor in Winnipeg. Ann met Jack Vance and after a long courtship was married on September 13, 1941. From 1941 to 1943 Ann and Jack lived in Sydney, NS where their daughter Diana was born. Ann worked for a number of years in the box making industry eventually ending up at Western Paper Box where she was considered to be a master box maker. In 1947, Jack and Ann moved into Weston, where they lived until 1975. She loved her grandchildren very much and was a caring Gramma, not only to her own grandchildren but also to a number of others who knew her as Gramma Vance. With good friends Ralph and Louise Wade, Ann and Jack spent many enjoyable occasions at Ponemah Beach as well as travelling across Canada and the United States. She also loved to travel with her daughter Diana and her family travelling to California and the East Coast of Canada with them. Her biggest love was just to see and be near all her grandchildren as much as she possibly could. She loved to read, knit and play Scrabble. Even at the age of 92, she could still play a mean game of cards. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Willow Unit at Fred Douglas Lodge for the exceptional care, respect and kindness provided to Ann throughout her stay on the unit, in particular Lorraine. A memorial service will held on Wednesday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Ave. at Charles Street, the Rev. Doug Martindale presiding. JURIJ (GEORGE) ZALEC Suddenly on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, Jurij (George) Zalec passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital with his loving wife Maria by his side. George will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 37 years Maria; his daughter Alexandra of Calgary and her husband Theo Titopoulos. He is also survived by sister Ana Ribar of Slovenia. He was predeceased by his parents, Franc and Ana; brothers, Leopold, Franc, Joe and sister Maria. George was born on December 11, 1929 in Dalnje Njive by Vinica, Slovenia. He came to Canada in 1958 and settled in Winnipeg. George was an avid handyman who loved to spend hours at his workbench. He was strong in body and spirit and worked hard to provide a wonderful life for his family. His generous, kind nature and tender heart made an impact on all who knew him. He was always quick with a witty word and his joyous laughter was infectious. Words cannot express how much you'll be missed "tati". Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 95 McDonald Ave. Viewing will commence half an hour prior at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
