MARGARET KEELAN
August 26, 2004
MARGARET MARY KEELAN (nee HEWITT) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother. On August 22, 2004 with her family by her side, Mary joined God in Heaven. Mary was born in Toronto, ON, the eldest daughter of Jack and Gertrude Hewitt. The family moved to Winnipeg where she attended St. Mary's Academy. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. She married John Patrick Keelan and together they raised five children in their family home on Borebank Street. Mary is now reunited with her parents and her husband Pat. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her sisters, Patricia Bean and Joan Sutherland; her children, Joanne, Mike, Patrick, Maureen (Bujar) and Ron; daughter-in-law Kathy; grandchildren, Dave (Laura) Danny, and Alyson; and great-grandson Chase; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Mary was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. John Brebeuf parish. She was a tireless volunteer, always willing to help those in need. Benefitting from her efforts were Meals on Wheels, Agape Table, Sisters of Mother Teresa, St. John Brebeuf school and parish, St. Ignatius Refugee Committee, League for Life, Canadian Cancer Society, and many other charities and worthy causes. She enjoyed travelling and spending time with her family. One of her favourite places was her cottage at Victoria Beach. She loved animals, especially her dogs Dutchy and Bruin and granddogs Bugsy and Annie. Mary lived her life for others and was especially devoted to her dear family. Her children never doubted her love for them and could always count on her support. Though we know she is now with God, she will be dearly missed. We love you Mom and Nanna. Prayers will take place on Thursday, August 26 at 8:30 p.m. at Thomson in the Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Ave., R3A 0M1.
ELIZABETH KERKINOS
August 26, 2004
ELIZABETH KERKINOS In the early morning of August 24, 2004 Elizabeth passed away at Poseidon Care Home after a very lengthy illness. Elizabeth was born in Cairo, Egypt and moved to Canada with her husband and daughter Maria in 1963. They moved to Thompson, MB where they joined a close-knit Greek community. In 1965, her son Dimitri was born. Elizabeth was a quiet woman whose feelings and thoughts ran deep. She took great pride in her family and would always put their needs before hers. Elizabeth suffered many hardships throughout her life -- one of the hardest was the passing of her son Dimitri (Jim) in 1992, which was the beginning of her failing health. Her husband Basil passed away in 1995, which again was very difficult for her. She was also predeceased by her brother Photi and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Maria, son-in-law Russell Kernaghan and her grandchildren Stephen and Alana. Her family was very important to her and was what kept her going through difficult times. Her eyes always lit up when she was visited by her loving grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Stepha, and brother Kypros from Montreal. She will be missed but always remembered by her family. We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to the staff of Poseidon Care Center with a special thanks to Helen and Jay for their support through her years there. A heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our friends Irini, Janice and Paulette who were dedicated to visiting my mother even when she was not able to give much in return and also to those others who were able to visit her. Prayers will be on Thursday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomson "in the Park" Funeral Home at 1291 MacGillivray Blvd. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church on Grant Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Parkinson's Society or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. She will also be remembered with love and appreciation for her positive influence in their lives by her nieces and nephews and their families: Jean and Obert Johnson, Bill and Helen Livingston and Roy and Inga Livingston all of Starbuck; Frank and Shirley Aitken, Norman and Harry Meneer, Doug and Dale Aitken and Debra and Don Smyth, all of Winnipeg, and Bob and Connie Aitken of Keewatin, ON. For the past 20 years Bea thoroughly enjoyed living at Lions Place, where she was actively involved and established many strong friendships, before relocating to Lions Personal Care Centre in May, 2004. Her family extends their thanks to Bea's friends and the Lion's Place staff as well as to Home Care whose efforts allowed her to remain in her own home until her recent move. Sincere gratitude is also extended to the staff of Lions Personal Care Centre who displayed their skill and compassion as Bea bravely fought her final battle. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to a memorial service celebrating a life well lived on Friday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Lions Place second floor, 610 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one's choice would be great fully acknowledged.
