NICOLAS MARCYNIUK

July 10, 2004

NICOLAS JOSEPH MARCYNIUK March 19, 1932 - July 5, 2004 Peacefully, on Monday, July 5, 2004, after a brief illness, Nick passed away at the Victoria General Hospital. He leaves to mourn his wife Barbara; children, Wendy and Rodney; Barbara's children, Kevin, Heather and family; sister Pat in Ontario; mother-in-law Dorothy Haycock; as well as relatives and friends. Nick pursued many business ventures throughout his lifetime, latterly owning and operating Dakota Bakery for 37 plus years. He was a kind, loving gentleman who would lend a hand to anyone in need. Nick often could be heard saying, "When times are tough and friends are few, Dakota Bakery is the place for you!" He leaves a legacy of humour, forgiveness and a gentle loving acceptance of what life had to offer. In respect of Nick's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Our family wishes to thank the staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their care, support and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nick's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. WINONA McFARLANE

July 10, 2004

WINONA McFARLANE Suddenly and serenely, Winona passed away at the Grace Hospital in the morning of July 7, 2004, after a short illness. She was born in Austin, MB, to Joseph and Annie Morris, both of whom predeceased her, as did her husband of 58 years, Robert; her infant son Robert; brother-in-law Jim Durward; sister-in-law Jean Sumner and brother-in-law Alex McFarlane. Surviving relatives include her sister Wilma (Andrew) Duncan, sister Enid Durward; brother Glenn (Donna) Morris; and many much loved nieces and nephews. As a girl growing up in Austin, Winona was skilled and active in sports including swimming, tennis, badminton, softball and speed skating. After completing grade 12, Winona attended business college in Winnipeg and subsequently joined the staff of the Bank of Montreal, where she worked until her retirement 34 years later. Winona was a generous, caring person, the rock on which our family leaned. Family was central to her life. For many years, Winona shared her husband Robbie's interest in thoroughbred racing at the Polo Park Racetrack, Whittier Park and Assiniboia Downs, and later in Regina and Saskatoon. Winona and Robbie traveled extensively, spending several winters in the southern United States. Winona was an active member of the St. James chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was well known for her excellent knitting, sewing and quilting skills and her many contributions to the Order of the Eastern Star and the Christmas Cheer Board. When asked about her extensive charitable work her answer was, "I feel that if God gave me this talent I should use it to the best of my ability to benefit others." Following cremation, funeral services for Winona will be held at the Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 12. Flowers gratefully declined, but should friends so desire, donations to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot, or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., would be much appreciated. Our family would like to thank the staff on the fifth floor of the Grace Hospital, and Dr. Macek, for their sensitivity and the kind attention we all received.
