GETCHELL, Helena Phyllis – At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on April 9, 2007, Helena Phyllis Getchell, widow of Hazen B. Getchell, of Mayfield, N.B.
Loving, caring mother of Joan Clark, West Virginia; Sandra Genis, St. Stephen, N.B.; Kenneth (Kathleen), St. Stephen, N.B.; stepsons, Melvin Getchell (Noreen), St. Stephen, N.B., Wayne Getchell (Ellie), St. Stephen, N.B.; grandchildren, Suzanne and Andrea, Andy and Chris, Stacy and Cindy, Tony and Shawn; great-grandchildren, beloved sister to Frederick Patterson, Ontario, Wayne Patterson (Faye), Beaver Harbour, N.B., Allan Patterson, Manitoba, Arlita Collette and Helen Nicholson, Florida, Donna Young, St. Stephen, N.B.; and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by two brothers, Garland and Cecil Patterson.
No visitation will be held by request.
A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Diabetes Association or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Watson, Earl Vincent

WATSON, Earl Vincent – Peacefully at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, N.B., on April 14, 2007, Earl V. Watson (The V-Man), husband of the late Jessie Alberta (Shaw) Watson, in his 97th year, of Blacks Harbour, N.B. Born in Canterbury, N.B., on Oct. 4, 1910, he was a son of the late Grovenor and Eva (Keilty) Watson.
A loving father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by seven sons, Eric "Buddy" (Margaret), of Blacks Harbour, N.B., Murray (Phyllis), of St. George, N.B., Paul (Kathy), of Pennfield, N.B., Arthur (Ruth), of Saint John, N.B., Douglas (Eloise), of Porter Cove, N.B., David (Darlene) and Keith (Penny), both of Blacks Harbour, N.B.; eight daughters, Shirley (Jim) Cameron, of Digby, N.S., Pauline Russell, of Pennfield, N.B., Mary Richardson, of Hubbards, N.S., Jackie (Horace) Young, of Pennfield, N.B., Carol (Russell) Surrette, of Saint John, N.B., Debbie Watson, of St. George, N.B., Margo (Hal) McLean, of Hubbards, N.S., and Kelly (Danny) Fellows, of Pennfield, N.B.; 55 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah Liddycoat and Gertrude Foster, both of Hamilton, Ont., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his beloved wife, Jessie, Earl was predeceased by one son, Morris; one grandson, Stephen Douglas Watson; one daughter-in- law, Linda Watson; and two sons -in-law, Dwayne Richardson and Gary Russell.
Prior to his retirement, Earl was employed by Connors Bros. for nearly 40 years, as well as a lobster fisherman. He was a devoted family man and was an avid photographer who took thousands of photographs of Blacks Harbour events and surrounding areas. Most of his photographs of local news events appeared for many years in The Saint Croix Courier and the Telegraph-Journal. Earl was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Blacks Harbour and he loved reading his Bible.
Resting at the United Pentecostal Church in Blacks Harbour, N.B., from where the service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 2 p.m., followed by interment in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
Visiting at the church on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
In Earl’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Russell, Mildred Leona

RUSSELL, Mildred Leona – Mildred Leona Russell, 87, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007 after a lengthy illness, at the Grand Manan Nursing Home, North Head, Grand Manan Island, N.B. Born at White Head Island, N.B., she was the daughter of Roy and Geneva (Outhouse) Morse.
Mildred worked as the post mistress in the Woodwards Cove Post Office until her retirement in 1985. After her retirement, Mildred spent many hours working with her son, Dale, and his wife, Betty, at their grocery store in Woodwards Cove, and was considered a second mother and loved by her many co-workers and customers over the years.
In her leisure time, she had great love of nature and spent many hours watching and enjoying birds. She was always a very loving and caring grandmother and great- grandmother, and always had time to share with her grandchildren and hear about their accomplishments.
Survived by three sons, Bernard (Deanna), Dale (Betty), and Frank (Crystal), all of Grand Manan Island, N.B.; four sisters, Lena Morehouse of Pennfield, N.B., Vera Hawkins (Arnold), of Beaver Harbour, N.B., Phyllis Hawkins, of Sudbury, Ont., and Flora Zwicker, of St. George, N.B.; as well as 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by one son, Scottie, and her husband, Hovey.
The family received friends and relatives at the Immanuel Pentecostal Assembly, Monday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The funeral service was held from the church Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 1 p.m., with Rev. George Clark officiating.
Internment followed at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Castalia.
A reception followed at the home of Frank and Crystal Russell. All were welcome and invited to attend.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of Ells Funeral Home, 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2

Norman, Flora Rosie

NORMAN, Flora Rosie – Peacefully, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on April 13, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, Flora Rosie (Kernighan) Norman, of St. George, N.B., went home to be with her Lord. Born in St. George, N.B., on March 29, 1915, Rosie was the wife of the late Darrell Eugene Norman. She was a daughter of the late John and Cora (Leavitt) Kernighan.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Rosie is survived by seven daughters, Clara (Keith) McDowell, Myrtle (Jack) Berdan, Betty (Lewis) Diamond, Frances (Gordon) Embree, Shirley (Pete) LeBlanc, Valrea Norman (Peter Jablonowski) and Debbie (Dean) Dick; five sons, John (Mary), Ross (Joan), Glenn (Charlotte), Charles (Claudette) and Brian (Donna) Norman; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rosie was predeceased by her husband, Darrell; a son, Darrell "Jackie"; two brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren.
Known for her kind and gentle smile and the "twinkle in her eye, " Mama (Grammie) was loved by all who knew her. At Grammie’s, all the children found her love and any kind of cookie. Grammie’s life was anchored in her love for her Lord and her church. Rosie was a life-long member of the Cornerstone Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in St. George, N.B. She spent many hours of her free time gardening, which she loved to do so much.
Rested at the Cornerstone Tabernacle Church, St. George, N.B., on Sunday, April 15 and Monday, April 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The funeral service was held at the church on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Calvin MacDonald and Rev. Vernon Bustard officiating.
Interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery.
In Rosie’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Wilson, Donald Albert

WILSON, Donald Albert – At Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen, N.B., on April 15, 2007, Donald Albert Wilson, husband of the late Myrtle Doreen (Williams) Wilson, of St. Stephen, N.B.
Survived by one daughter, Cathy Wilson, St. Stephen, N.B.; three sons, Carl (Anna), British Columbia, Kevin (Cindy), Fredericton, N.B., and Gary (Heather), Fredericton, N.B.; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three brothers, Bruce, Herbie and Louis, of Saint John, N.B.; several nieces and nephews.
Resting at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 2 p.m.
Interment at Moores Mills Rural Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society of charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Jestings, Eugene S.

EUGENE S. JESTINGS

Eugene S. Jestings, of Calais, Me., died on April 2, 2007, at Calais Regional Hospital, Calais, Me. Gene was born on Aug. 11, 1929, in Cutler, Me. He was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pauline W. Jestings; sister, Sarah Lund, of Machias, Me.; daughter, Bonnie Cleghorn (husband, Larry), of Oak Hill, N.B.; daughter, Karen Parks (husband, Raymond), of Mayfield, N.B.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Masterson, Margaret Knox

Margaret Knox Masterson (nee Montgomerie) passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Toronto East General Hospital, Toronto, Ont., in her 82nd year. Born in New Bedford, Mass., she lived in England and Scotland prior to emigrating to Canada with her family in 1957.
Loving wife of the late Ronald M. Masterson (1922-1993); daughter of the late Lt. Col. James B.T. Montgomerie, MC, MM and Janet L. Semple.
Adored mother of John (Kaarina), James, Jeremy (Mary), and Montie (Marguerite); proud Granny of nine grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters, Janet, in Scotland, and Molly (Graeme), in P.E.I.; and sisters-in-law, Wendy and Muriel, in Scotland; along with numerous cousins, nephews and nieces in Canada, USA, Scotland, England, and Hong Kong.
An army nurse at the end of World War II, she pursued a nursing career for much of her younger life. An accomplished professional fine artist, she studied at St. Andrews Art College in Scotland, and worked for Valentines Greeting Cards in Dundee, where she met Ron. They lived many happy years in Rothesay and St. Andrews, N.B.; Cape Cod, Mass.; and Oakville, Ont.
In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations towards a scholarship for an art student.
A private family gathering was held on April 7, 2007. Cremation followed.

Grearson, Gerald Edward

GREARSON, Gerald Edward – Peacefully, at his residence, St. George, N.B., on April 17, 2007, Gerald Edward Grearson, husband of Anita (Spinney) Grearson, of St. George, N.B. Born in Saint John, N.B., on Dec. 1, 1924, he was the son of the late Herbert and Eola Ann (Hoyt) Grearson.
A loving husband of 59 years, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Anita; one daughter, Judith (Donald) Breau; two grandchildren, Danielle Breau and Gil Breau (Michelle Cobbrn), all of St. George, N.B.
He was predeceased, besides his parents, by one great-granddaughter, Morgan Marie.
Gerald was a carpenter by trade and had worked for various employers as well as being self employed for a number of years. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot. Known for his love of carpentry work and wood working, his family own and cherish many treasures which he built. He was an avid reader, who also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years. Gerald also had a passion for photography and enjoyed taking pictures, as well as developing his own photos. He enjoyed canoeing and loved the outdoors. Gerald was a life-long member of the St. George Baptist Church.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B., with visiting on Thursday from 7-9 p.m., and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 11 a.m., from the St. George Baptist Church, followed by interment in the St. George Rural Cemetery.
A reception will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, St. George following the interment.
In Gerald’s memory, donations to the St. George Baptist Church or St. Mark’s Anglican Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.

Arthur Laurie Barteau

At the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 1, 2002, Mr. Arthur Laurie Barteau of Chocolate Cove, Deer Island, husband of Lorena M. (Matthews) Barteau. Born in Leonardville, NB on July 15, 1914, he was the son of the late Arthur G and Alice (Conley) Barteau. A loving husband, father and grandfather he is survived by his wife; 1 son, Dale (Glenna) of Chocolate Cove; 2 daughters, Eleanor Thurber (Donald) of Lincoln, NB and Journeay Barteau of Chocolate Cove; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by 4 brothers, Fremont, Charles, Bernard and Roscoe and 4 sisters, Harriett, Viola, Elta and Luly.
Prior to retirement, Arthur was a lobster pound owner for several years. Previous to this, he was a postmaster for 30 years and a grocery store operator for many years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Leonardville. He enjoyed baseball and hockey and was very interested in local affairs.
There will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service will be held at a time and date to be announced. Interment in the Fairhaven Cemetery at Calder's Head. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
