Bowles, Donald Michael
Donald Michael Bowles, 65, of Hamilton, Ont., perished in a fatal car accident in Hamilton, Saturday, March 1, 2008; son of the late Gregory and Elizabeth Bowles of St. Stephen, N.B.
Survived by son, Darryl, of Hamilton, Ont.; daughter, Maureen, of Georgetown, Ont.; four grandchildren; sister, Norma, of Woodstock, Ont.; brother David of Lower Sackville, N.S.; and two nieces.
Funeral service will be held at Crestmount Funeral Chapel, 322 Fennell Ave., East, Hamilton, Ont., on Thursday, March 6, at 11 a.m.
Patterson, Murray Vaughan
We regret to announce the passing of Murray Vaughan Patterson (MWO RECME, Retired) on Feb. 16, 2008, in his 83rd year.
Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marion. Dad will be greatly missed by his son, Richard (Caroline), in Taiwan; and his daughters: Bonny, Anne (Bob Watts), Nancy (Roger Mackenzie), and Susan (Jimm Fox). Dear grandpa of 11 and great-grandfather of five. Also survived by his sister, Mary (Fred); brother, Alan (Norma), and sister, Anne (Frank).
He was predeceased by his sister, Monica, and brother, Lauron.

Murray was born in St. George, N.B., a son of the late Emery and Kitty Patterson, and was a graduate of St. George Superior High School.
Logan, Jean M.
After a very brief illness, Jean M. Logan, of St. Andrews, N.B., passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008.
Beloved mother of Jonathan Logan (Brenda), of St. Andrews, N.B., and Nancy Keizer (James), of Cambridge, Ont.; very proud grandmother of Kathryn (Katie) Logan, Paul Logan, and Emma Keizer; loving sister to Bertram Miller (Joan) and Barbara McIntyre (Sterling - deceased), both of St. Martins, N.B.
Born on Feb. 11, 1923, to the late Erroll and Arvilla Belle (Osborne) Miller, of St. Martins, N.B.
Predeceased by her husband, D. Paul Logan, in 1966.
Jean lead a very active, happy, and positive life and will be remembered for her strength, vibrancy, wisdom, tenacity, graciousness, unselfishness, support, caring way, and unconditional love of life, animals and family.
Jean was a pillar of the St. Andrews community for 47 years, actively involved in many organizations: Starting shortly after the death of her husband in 1966, she was the first executive secretary of Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre and one of its biggest promoters in its early years. In 1975 she became the Revenue Officer for the Provincial Government Tax and Motor Vehicle office in St. Andrews until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the Music, Art and Drama Club, Canadian Club, Heather Curling Club, Senior Ladies International Curling Club (SLICC), Girl Guide Association, Order of the Eastern Star, All Saints Anglican Church Vestry, Passamaquoddy Lodge Inc. Board of Directors and Trust Fund Board, serving as secretary treasurer. She was also past president of both the All Saints Anglican Church ACW and the Charlotte County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a long serving member of School District No. 23 School Board and School Trustees Association, serving on the Provincial Executive Committee.
Relatives and friends were invited to All Saints Anglican Church for visitation on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service was held on Monday, March 3, 2008, from All Saints Anglican Church, 77 King St., St. Andrews at 2 p.m.
A special memorial and interment service will take place at Mosher Hill Cemetery, St. Martins, in the spring.
Remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Trinity Anglican Church, St. Martins, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Lambert, Iva Louise
At the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, N.B., on March 28, 2008, after a brief illness, Mrs. Iva Louise (Stuart) Lambert, wife of the late Donald Whitney Lambert, of Lord’s Cove, Deer Island, N.B. Born in Lord’s Cove, N.B., on Oct. 25, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Iva (Hooper) Stuart.
A loving mother, aunt and cousin, she is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Karen (Edward) Power, of Lord’s Cove, N.B.; one sister, Gertrude Hatt; one brother, Lister Stuart; one half-brother, Vernard Lambert; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Iva was predeceased by a grandson, Shon Blacquiere, and by two sisters, Lena Gaudett and Muriel Hawkins.
Friends are welcome to attend a graveside service at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Deer Island, N.B., on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Conrad Cline officiating.

Sherman, Nellie M. Upton
Mrs. Nellie M. Upton Sherman, 96, went home to be with her Lord on March 28, 2008 at Narraguagus Bay Assisted Living Facility in Milbridge, Me. Born May 17, 1911 in Stewiacke, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Edmund Roy and Annie Isabella (Leake) Weaver.
In 1930, she married Percy G. Upton. They lived on Grand Manan and raised their family there. Following Percy’s death in 1956, she moved to Fredericton, N.B., and married the late Clark A. Sherman in 1959 and moved to Eastport, Me. In the later years of her life, she moved to Cherryfield in 1994.
Nellie will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had a real talent for making her home a warm and inviting place. There was always a cup of tea and a plate of cookies for all who came by for a visit.
She is survived by her children: Lorraine Ingalls, of Oshawa, Ont., Dawn Frankland and husband, Burton, of Whitehead, N.B., Russell Upton and wife, Joyce, of Stittsville, Ont., Ronald Upton and wife, Kathy, of Cherryfield, Me., and stepson, Clark Sherman and wife, Susan, of Pleasant Ridge, Me. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren, six great-great- grandchildren, two step-grandsons and their families, and two step- great-granddaughters and their families.
Visiting hours will be held from Ells Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The funeral service will take place from the North Head Wesleyan Church, North Head, N.B., on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Karl Ingersoll officiating.
Interment to follow at the North Head Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the North Head Wesleyan Church in Nellie’s memory.

Lowe, Robert Arthur
At the Charlotte County Hospital, on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, Robert Arthur Lowe, of Chipman Apts., St. Stephen, N.B., husband of the late Thelma Bernice (Moffatt) Lowe; born in St. Stephen, N.B., son of the late George William and Edith Mae (Polley) Lowe.
Arthur had worked for the St. Stephen Woodworking Manufacturers. He was an avid hockey and baseball player. He played in the St. Stephen Old Timers League and played the sport up until the age of 72. In that 72nd year, he played 72 times. The number on his jersey always reflected his age. He was a member of the NB Sports Hall of Fame; he was inducted in 1971, as part of the St. Stephen St. Croix Milltown Baseball Team (1931-1939).
As a loving father and grandfather, he always attended every game in which his children and grandchildren were involved.
Art was a coach of the St. Stephen Aces hockey team that won the Intermediate C New Brunswick Hockey Championship in 1963.
Art was a faithful Rotarian for 53 years, serving the St. Stephen-Milltown Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris recipient, with a record of 100 per cent attendance. He served on St. Stephen Town Council, as well as the local school board. He was a member of the St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder for many years.
Arthur is survived by his three daughters, Judith Wilson (Rod), of Fredericton, N.B., Sharon Fowler (Eugene), of Fredericton, N.B., and Linda Lowe, of St. Stephen, N.B.; six grandchildren: Rodney (Amanda) Wilson, Derek Wilson (Tammy Price), Dr. Robert Fowler (Dr. Eva Shimaoka), Angela Fowler (Ben Kennedy), Trevor Perry (Dr. Stephanie Perry) and Krista Amos (Kris); five great-grandchildren: Jackson and Marcus Wilson, Matthew Fowler, and Olivia and Avery Amos.
By Arthur’s request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home.
A graveside service will take place later in the spring in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Stephen-Milltown Rotary Club, St. Stephen Presbyterian Church or the Charlotte County Civic Centre would be appreciated by the family. Pledge forms for the Civic Centre can be picked up at the funeral home.

Boyd, Bryan R
Bryan R. Boyd, of Burnaby, B.C., died March 26, 2008, after a short illness. Born Sept. 19, 1955 in Moncton, N.B., son of Garnet A. Boyd (deceased) and Diana Boyd, he grew up in St. Stephen, N.B., graduating from St. Stephen High School in 1974.
He lived most of his working life in Vancouver, B.C. A strong love of cooking led him to become a chef in several Vancouver restaurants before starting his own catering business, Untouchable Caterers. The firm provided on-site catering services to movie productions and television series, often travelling with film crews to remote parts of British Columbia. Most recently, he was the inspiration behind Natural Celebrities, a series of cooking sauces involving Canadian celebrities with proceeds shared with their selected charities.
He is survived by his mother, Diana Boyd, of St. Stephen, N.B.; sister, Lorraine Eden Hermann, of College Station, Texas; brother, David Boyd, of Oakville, Ont., and niece, Jessica Eden-Lanthier, of Ottawa, Ont.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in St. Stephen, N.B.

Thornton, E. Barbara
E. Barbara Thornton (nee Frazee) passed away on Feb. 21, 2008, in Victoria, B.C. Born in Halifax, N.S., Barbara spent most of her childhood in St. Stephen, N.B., where her father, Rowland Frazee, was manager of the Royal Bank.
Predeceased by her husband, James (1979); sister, Nan (1933) and brother, Rowland (2007), Barbara leaves behind her daughter, Nan; son-in-law, Colin; and grandsons, Matthew and Andrew, of Victoria, B.C. She is also remembered by her sister-in-law, Marie Frazee, of St. Andrews, N.B.; nephew, Stephen and his family; niece, Catherine; and many nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the staff at the Kiwanis Pavilion, Victoria, B.C., for their compassionate care during Barbara’s time with them. A special thank you to Kirsten for the gift of sharing music with Barbara.
A funeral service was held in Victoria, B.C., at Christ Church Cathedral, on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 11 a.m.

Stanley, Harry Scott
Mr. Harry Scott Stanley, age 84, of North Head, Grand Manan Island, N.B., died peacefully at the Grand Manan Hospital on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008.
Survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marjorie (Zwicker); daughters, Dorrine Squire (Derek), of Greenwood, N.S., and Shelley Cook (Wayne), of Grand Manan, N.B.; sons, Michael (Diana), of Fredericton, N.B., and Jon (Leslie), of Grand Manan, N.B.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bruce and Helen (Scott) Stanley; his sister, Alda (Ingersoll); and his brother, Clifford.
Harry served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1940 to 1946, and saw action in the North Atlantic, Bay of Biscay, and the Murmansk run, a proud member of the Haida’s original crew. He was self-employed in Bruce Stanley & Sons General Store from 1945 until his death, and as an insurance broker until 2002.
He was a little league coach, an avid athlete in baseball, tennis, badminton, and curling. He was very active in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 44, Village Council, and the Grand Manan Rotary Club. Harry served the people of Grand Manan Island all of his adult life. He was devoted to his immediate and extended family, and mentor to many others. He touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him.
Harry’s family received friends and relatives at the North Head Wesleyan Church on Sunday.
The funeral service was held from the church on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Mel Norton officiating and Rev. Ron Ford assisting.
Interment followed at the North Head Community Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
