Campbell, Stephen Afton

The death of Stephen Afton Campbell, of Breadalbane, N.B., in his 96th year, husband of Mrs. Bernice (Clinch) Campbell, occurred on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Fundy Nursing Home in Blacks Harbour, N.B. Born in L’Etete, N.B., on March 27, 1913, he was the son of the late William and Pearl (Dick) Campbell.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his loving wife, Bernice; his children: Ellen Hatt, of St. George, N.B., Jane Smith (Richard), of Breadalbane, N.B., Stephanie MacEachern (Allan), of Digdeguash, N.B., and Bill Campbell (Janet), of Halifax, N.S.; grandchildren: Stephen (Mary) Hatt, of St. George, N.B., Laurie (Harry) Moses, of Utopia, N.B., Allan (Crystal) MacEachern, of St. Stephen, N.B., Sheryl MacEachern, of Canoose, N.B.; five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Rhonda Palmer, of St. Andrews, N.B.; special niece, Rosslyn Allen, of St. George, N.B.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one sister, Lydie Allen; and one son-in-law, Sherman Hatt.
Steve was a lifelong resident of the St. George area who had many occupations, including generator operator at St. George Pulp and Paper, a woodsman, fisherman, and author. He served as Scout Master for 25 years and was a member of the St. George Rotary Club, in which he was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.
A gifted author, local historian and storyteller, he was a wealth of knowledge on the local area and compiled information in three books which he wrote, the Come Back With Me series.
A Celebration of Steve’s life was held from the St. George Baptist Church, St. George, on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 2 p.m., followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery.
Visiting was held at the St. George Funeral Home on Friday.
In Steve’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Bryan, Katherine (Kate) Barnum

The death of Katherine (Kate) Barnum Bryan, of Mascarene, N.B., occurred unexpectedly on July 24, 2008, in Mascarene, N.B.
She was the wife of Warren F. Bryan, mother of Louise B. Bryan and Eben J. Bryan, and daughter of Jim and Judy (Waterbury) Gardner of Vermont. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Royer and family, of Virginia; her brother, David Gardner and family, of New Hampshire; grandmothers, Mima and E.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Born Aug. 11, 1974, in San Diego, Calif., Kate grew up in Duxbury, Mass.
A memorial gathering will be held Aug. 10, 2008 at 1 p.m., at the home of Harry and Martha Bryan, 329 Mascarene Road, L’Etete, N.B.

Norton, Margaret Daye

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service in memory of Margaret (Peggy) Daye Norton at Milltown United Church, Milltown Blvd., St. Stephen, on Saturday, July 26 at 1 p.m.U.S. time, 2 p.m. Canadian time.

Cleveland, Joyce Elizabeth

After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Joyce Elizabeth Cleveland passed away peacefully and with dignity on Aug. 2, 2008, in the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal, N.S., at the age of 69. Born in Saint John, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Winnifred (Teare) Mawhinney, formerly of Maces Bay, N.B.
Joyce graduated from Eastern Charlotte Regional School, St. George, N.B., and Teachers College, Fredericton, N.B. She taught in Blacks Harbour, Rothesay and Devon, N.B., and Central Kings, Cambridge, Bridgewater and Annapolis Royal, N.S., from where she retired after teaching 35 years. Upon retirement, she and Karl spent several winters in Florida where she enjoyed meeting with her friends and doing water aerobics.
She loved to cook, garden and curl. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Belleisle, as well as the treasurer of St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund.
She is survived by her husband, Karl; stepmother, Joan Mawhinney, Saint John, N.B.; sister, Pat (Rod) Shewchuk, Kenora, Ont.; brothers, Keith (Joanne), Chipman, N.B., and Clyde “Bud” (Lydie), Fredericton, N.B.; two aunts and two uncles; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two godchildren.
She was predeceased by aunt, Doreen Snow.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal, N.S., where visitation was held on Tuesday.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Belleisle, Annapolis Co., N.S., with Rev. Liz Earley officiating, assisted by Rev. Canon Ken Vaughan.
Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.

Taylor, Beatrice Sarah

Beatrice Sarah (Beatie) Taylor, 82, of North Head, Grand Manan Island, N.B., passed away peacefully at the Grand Manan Hospital on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008. Born in Lockport, N.S., she was the daughter of the late John and Violet (Scott) Stuart. Throughout her life, she was a loving wife and mother to her family.
One of things she enjoyed the most was to entertain people and often appeared at the Grand Manan Rotary Festival variety shows, and also dedicated many hours entertaining the residents of the Grand Manan Nursing Home with her skits, accompanied by her daughter, Jocelyn.
During her life she worked at many different jobs, and later in life she was employed as the Activity Director at the Grand Manan Nursing Home for many years. In the summer months, on Saturday mornings you could always find her at the Grand Manan Farmers Market with her table of home cooking. She served the Lord at the North Head Baptist Church and always made herself available to help with any function in the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Jocelyn Taylor, of North Head, N.B.; two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Hatt, of North Head, N.B., and Mrs. Alina Walker of Jordan Falls, N.S.; one brother, Elmer Stuart (Dianne), of Lockport, N.S.; also several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clifton; her son, Vaughn; and three brothers, Lionel, Charles and Pryor.
Visitation was held at the North Head Baptist Church on Sunday. The funeral service was held from the church on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Ron Ford officiating.
Following the service there was a reception and all were welcome and invited for fellowship and refreshments.
Interment followed at the North Head Community Cemetery.
Beattie’s family has requested donations may be made to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the North Head Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home, 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2

Green, Theodore Rosevelt

Theodore Rosevelt (Fisher) Green, of Seal Cove, Grand Manan Island, N.B., passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital on Friday, Sept, 5, 2008. Born at Seal Cove, N.B., he was the son of the late Coleman and Ruby (Benson) Green.
Fisher worked hard in the fishery all of his life, as a lobster fisherman, ran scales for the Merle Corporation, and also worked in the weir fishery. He was very active in the community and served as Past President of the Grand Manan Curling Club, past board member with the NB Fishermen’s Loan Board, served on the Board of Directors for the Grand Manan Historical Society, Grand Manan Museum, and the Grand Manan Wildlife Association.
An avid sportsman, Fisher enjoyed hunting and the fellowship it brought with his friends. Fisher was a member of the Seal Cove Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor M. (Hatt) Green, of Seal Cove, N.B.; his two daughters, Lois Beechin, of Seal Cove, N.B., and Julie Russell (Troy), of Grand Harbour, N.B.; one son, Lloyd Green (Pat), of Deep Cove, N.B.; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Bridgett, and Destiny,; three sisters, Mrs. Molly Laffoley, Mrs. Betty Ingersoll, and Mrs. Margaret Guthrie; and one brother, Morton.
Visiting hours were held from Ells Funeral Home on Monday.
The funeral service will be held from the Seal Cove Baptist Church on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Peter Smith officiating.
Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home, 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2.

Carter, Robin Glenmore

At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Aug. 5, 2008, Robin Glenmore Carter, husband of Helen (Lewis) Carter, of Seeley’s Cove, N.B. Born at Blacks Harbour, N.B., on Jan. 20, 1957, he was a son of the late Delbert and Marion Belle (Sellars) Carter.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Aaron Carter, of Seeley’s Cove, N.B.; two daughters, Jennifer (E.J.) Pitre, of Blacks Harbour, N.B., and Stefany Carter (Josh), of Bethel, N.B.; three granddaughters, Mikayla, Grace and Sophie; four brothers, Edgar (Karen) Carter, of Mascarene, N.B., Perry (Karrie) Carter, Eldon (Mary) Carter and Sheldon Carter, all of Seeley’s Cove, N.B.; two sisters, Debbie (David) Eagles and Lyda (Louis) Leger, both of Moncton, N.B.; one sister-in-law, Annette Carter, of Seeley’s Cove, N.B.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Robin was predeceased by one brother, Elliott Carter.
A man of the water, Robin was the current president of the Fundy Weir Fisherman’s Association and president and member of the Harbour Authority of Seeley’s Cove. He was a past president of the Fundy North Fisherman’s Association and served on many boards and committees to better the fishing industry in southwestern New Brunswick. Robin also was a member of the Local Service District of Pennfield and former Deputy Chief and firefighter with the Pennfield Volunteer Fire Department from its beginning.
He was a member of Christ Church (Anglican) in Pennfield and member of the Masonic Lodge No. 12 F&AM; of St. George, N.B. Robin was a very active member in his local community and the fishing industry, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Rested at the Pennfield Baptist Church, Pennfield, N.B., from where the service was held on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Grant Alcorn officiating.
The interment followed the service at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
Visiting took place at the church on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or to the St. George Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.

Wilcox, Vernice G.

Vernice G. (Benson) Wilcox, beloved wife of Prescott Wilcox, passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital, Brockville, Ont., on Friday, July 11, 2008. Born November 1930 at Seal Cove, Grand Manan, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Ottawa (Ottie) Benson and the late Hildred (Lil) Benson.
Survived by her loving husband, Prescott; stepson, Glenn Wilcox, North Bay, Ont.; Greta Wilcox (Lyall Brown), Kanata, Ont.; step-granddaughter, Taylor Wilcox; brothers, Rev. Roosevelt Benson (Grace), Fredericton, N.B., and Allison (Lois) Benson, Oak Bay, N.B.; sisters, Charlotte Frost (Teddy), Grand Manan, N.B., Jackie (Tiny) Benson, St. Pete, Fla., Bonny Gaskill (Ebbie), Grand Manan, N.B., and Florena Daggett (Brock, Sr.); special niece, Shelley Griffin (John), Grand Manan, N.B.; special sister-in-law, Joan Glenn, Prescott, Ont.; Godson, Bradley Pilla (Lynn), Prescott, Ont.; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Allison Campbell; and a brother, Cpl. Rodney Benson.
There will be a memorial service on July 18, 2008 at Prescott, Ont., and interment to follow in September, 2008, at St. Stephen, N.B.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Paul’s United Church Roof Fund, Prescott, Ont., or to Maple Grove Cemetery, Grand Manan, N.B.
