Murphy, Wayne Sidney

At Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Aug. 10, 2008, Wayne Sidney Murphy, husband of Charlotte M. (Cleghorn) Murphy, of Dufferin, Charlotte County, N.B., son of the late Philip and Georgina (Gass) Murphy.
Survived by his wife, Charlotte; his children, Joanne Cleghorn (Simon Berriault), Bocabec, N.B., Lynette Fiander, St. Stephen, N.B., Kevin Murphy (Trina Livingstone), Oak Bay, N.B., and Vanessa Orr (Greg), Oak Bay, N.B.; son-in-law, Mark Fiander, Tower Hill, N.B.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Resting at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at 2 p.m.
Interment at the Rollingdam Cemetery, Rollingdam, N.B.
Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to Palliative Care, Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Hodge, James William

At Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Sept. 3, 2008, James William Hodge, of Chamcook, N.B.
Survived by his companion, Lurene LeRoux; three daughters, Chris Hodge, Montreal, Que., Roxy Jenkerson (Malcolm), Minouth, Ont., and Laurie Guay (Terry), Cambridge, Ont.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Carroll Hodge (Bernice), Ontario; several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by one son, Larry Hodge, Sherbrooke, Que.
No visitation or funeral service will be held by request.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Graham, Terry Allen

The largely attended funeral of Saint John firefighter, Terry Allen Graham, husband of Michele "Shelly" (Ryan) Graham, was held on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, to St. Pius X Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Douglas McNeill and concelebrated by Rev. Peter Bagley, Rev. John Keoughan and Rev. William Weiss, assisted by one of the Parish Funeral Teams.
Readings were proclaimed by Libby MacLeod and Nancy Graham. The cantor was Chuck Landers and the organist, Mary Ann Morgan, accompanied soloists, Mary Lou Graham, Marilyn Williams and Maureen Stackhouse. The St. Pius X Church Choir also took part in the ministry of music.
An honour guard was formed by the New Brunswick Fire Departments of: Saint John, Riverview, Florenceville, Fredericton, Moncton, Kennebecasis, Grand Bay- Westfield, Musquash, and Oromocto; and the Nova Scotia Fire Departments of Halifax and Truro.
Special acknowledgements are extended to: pipers, Mark Wilson, Bob Adams and John McCarthy; drummer, Bob Knodell; commander, Kevin Wilson; and the processional escort on behalf of the Saint John Police Force.
The honourary pallbearers were: Abel LeBlanc, Ron Oldfield, Chuck Hickey and Brian McDonald.
The active pallbearers were: Paul McDade, Wayne McGrath, Frank McKinnon, Larry Cook, Shane O’Brien, Paul Stackhouse, Peter Collings, David Wright and Chuck Landers.
Paul Zed, M.P., Ivan Court, Mayor of the City of Saint John, John McCarthy, President of the APFFA, Jim Fennell, 15th District V.P. of the APFFA and Jim Lee, President of the Canadian International Fire Fighters Association were present in the congregation.
Among the numerous floral and spiritual tributes were those from: Fire Chief and Administrative Staff of the Saint John Fire Department, Saint John Firefighters Association Local 1075, Aliant Regional Services, Trojans Rugby Club, Saint John High School Class of 1976, Department of Social Development, Executive and Members of the Kennebecasis Firefighters Union Local 3591, Management and Staff of Eddie Bauer, Manitoba Provincial Firefighters Association, Officers and Members of Group 4 Station 7, City Manager and Staff of City Hall, St. George Fire Department, St. Stephen’s Choir, Owners and Staff of Tim Horton's Lansdowne, Milk for Moms Incorporated, New Brunswick Police Association, Fredericton Firefighters Association Local 1053, Saint John District Labour Council, Aliant Access Partnership Team, International Association of Firefighters, BCPFFA, Neo Natal, Mayor and Council of the City of Saint John, IAFF Local 1576 and Practical Auto Sales and Services.
Donations made in memory of Terry were given to: Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada (NB); Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada (NB); Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick including those from Canada Border Service Agency Ways and Means, Hilton Saint John, The Saint John Foster Family Association, Aliant Charlotte County, and Centre for Youth Care; Divine Mercy Catholic School; Palliative Care Unit, Saint John Regional Hospital; Tuberous Sclerosis Canada; Saint John Firefighters Historical Society including one from Grand Bay- Westfield Volunteer Firefighters Association; Canadian Cancer Society including one from Paul Zed, MP, Children and the Saint John Federal Liberal Association; Christopher Court Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund; IWK Children’s Hospital; St. Malachy’s Memorial High School Scholarship Trust Fund including one from Staff and Students of St. Malachy’s Memorial High School; Hospice Greater Saint John; Kidney Foundation of Canada (NB); Canadian Diabetes Association of (NB), Victorian Order of Nurses (Saint John) INC., United Way Greater Saint John; and C.U.P.E. Local 1418, Region II.
Interment took place in Holy Cross Cemetery, where a final tribute was formed for Terry by his firefighter colleagues from across Canada and the United States.

McAlpine, Barbara Ann –

Barbara Ann McAlpine, 75, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008 at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center. Barbara was born in St. Stephen, N.B., on Jan. 25, 1933, daughter of George and Cora (Greer) Clarke.
After graduating from business school, she moved to Toronto, where she was employed for 10 years as an office manager for a doctor’s office that treated autistic children. Barbara then relocated back to St. Stephen and began working for St. Croix Paper Co. Barbara retired from the paper mill with 30 years of service.
She was a member of the People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville, the Quarter Century Club, and a former member of the Spednic Club. Barbara was very artistic and enjoyed drawing, knitting, reading, bowling, gardening, cooking, baking and birdwatching. Her most memorable times were with her family. Barbara enjoyed boat rides and car rides with her husband, annual trips to Cobscook Bay State Park in Edmunds, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving is her loving husband of over 32 years, Barry “Bud” McAlpine, of Baileyville, Me.; her mother, Cora Clarke, of St. Stephen, N.B.; four children, Kathy Amber, of East Windsor, Conn., Robert Amber and his wife, Cheryl, of Baileyville, Me., David McAlpine and his wife, Judy, of Baileyville, Me., and Christine Wormell, of Augusta, Me.; three sisters, Joyce Douglas, of St. Stephen, N.B., Ellen Sampson and her husband, Jerry, of Opelika, Ala., and Georgianne Flaherty and her husband, Michael, of Lebanon, Conn.; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan, Emily, Jacob, Mylissa, Kristofor, Zachary, and Abby; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Sydney and Liam; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by her father, George; and a sister, Shirley Gayton.
Friends may call from 4 – 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008 at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at 3 p.m., Wednesday, at Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 170 US Route 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105.

Oagles, Mary Elvira

At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on July 15, 2008, Mrs. Mary Elvira (McLaughlin) Oagles, wife of the late Lesley Carr Oagles and the late Cedric Scott, of Blacks Harbour, N.B., went home to be with her Lord and Saviour. Born at Honeydale, N.B., on Oct. 5, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Helen (Scott) McLaughlin.
A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Mary is survived by two daughters, Lousie (Guy) McLaughlin, of Blacks Harbour, N.B., and Helen (Doug) Robillard, of Ottawa, Ont.; one son, Calvin (Theresa) Scott, of Andersonville, N.B.; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris McLaughlin, of Saint John, N.B.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husbands, Cedric and Les, Mary was predeceased by three daughters, Erma Hannington, Barbara Thorne and Judy Ayotte; five brothers, Naaman, Quincy, Keith, Frank and Cecil; two sisters, Cora Regan and Ella McLaughlin.
Prior to her retirement, Mary worked for many years at the factory for Connors Bros. at Blacks Harbour. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church at Blacks Harbour. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and serving her Lord.
Rested at the United Pentecostal Church, Blacks Harbour, N.B., from where the service was held on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Phil Anderson, Rev. Ivan Perry and Rev. Andrew Regich officiating.
The interment followed at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
Visiting was held at the church on Thursday.
In Mary’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Irving, Dora Margaret

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Aug. 9, 2008, Dora Margaret (Hardy) Irving, of Oak Bay, N.B.; wife of the late John (Jack) H. Irving.
Survived by her son, Brian Irving (Karen), of Oak Bay, N.B.; daughters, Lorraine Sauve, of Kanata, Ont., and Doreen Maltby (John) (Moe), of Trenton, Ont.; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Donna, Greg, Julie, Christine, Angie and Jeff; nine great-grandchildren, Amanda, Scott, Stephanie, Holly, Robbie, Riley, Shaun, Sarah and Ben; two sisters, Annie McFarlane, of Saint John, N.B., and Muriel Costain, of Winnipeg, Man.; several nieces and nephews.
Rested at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 at 7 p.m.
Interment at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, St. Stephen, N.B.

Dick, Roberta Muriel

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Roberta Muriel (Leavitt) Dick, wife of the late Ward Gilbert Dick, of L’Etete, N.B., at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on July 14, 2008. Born in L’Etang, N.B., on Jan. 16, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Martha Leavitt.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Burke, and her husband, Richard; sons, Ronald Dick and his wife, Micheline, and Sheldon Dick; grandsons, Benjamin Dick and Gregory Burke and his fiancée, Da Pan (Panda). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roberta was predeceased by her husband, Ward, in 1996 and her sisters, Addie Thompson, Irene Leavitt, Vera Matthews, Viola Cunningham, Marado Leavitt, Stella O’Connor, and Margaret Justason and her brother, Murray Dick.
Roberta was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Roberta was a member of the L’Etete Church of Christ and her life centered around her church and her family. For many years she was actively involved in the Willing Workers and Missionary Society.
Rested at the L’Etete Church of Christ, from where the service was held on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Giles Mullen officiating.
The interment will follow the service at the L’Etete Community Cemetery.
Visiting was held at the church on Wednesday.
In Roberta’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

LeBlanc, Patrick Fabian

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Aug. 10, 2008, Patrick Fabian LeBlanc, of Oak Bay, N.B.; son of Bernadette E. (Burke) and the late John J. LeBlanc.
Survived by his wife, Brenda Ann (Lewin) LeBlanc; two daughters, Jenna and Kristin; two brothers, Bernard and Donald (Debbie), both of Ontario; one sister, Florence Young (Robert), of Sydney, N.S.; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, John Francis LeBlanc.
Rested at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008 at 10 a.m.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 11.
