Dever, Joseph Albert

The death of Joseph Albert Dever, of Bayside, N.B., husband of Edna (Williams - Ackroyed) Dever, occurred on Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B. Born in St. Stephen, N.B., on March 21, 1915, he was a son of the late Frederick and Gertrude (Densmore) Dever.
Joe had been employed as a gardener at the Cotton Mill.
Survived by his wife; two children, Paula (David) George, of Bucksport, Me., and Geraldine (William) Phillips, of Ontario; one brother, Harry Dever, of Milltown, N.B.; five step-children, Bonita (Dennis) Murray-Weir, of Riverview, N.B., Barbara (Daniel) Saunders, of Westfield, N.B., Brenda (Keith) Johnson, of Carters Point, N.B., Richard (Angela) Ackroyed and Byron (Doreen) Ackroyed, both of Saint John, N.B.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his first wife, Frances; two sisters, Mildred Beausoliel and Dorothy Polk; a son, Frederick, in 2006.
Arrangements are under the care of Humphreys’ Select Community Funeral Home, St. Stephen, N.B.
At Joe’s request, there will not be any visiting at the funeral home.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated from St. Andrew’s Church, St. Andrews, N.B., on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 11 a.m., followed by interment in St. Andrews Rural Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation or any charity of choice.

Johnston, R. Arlene

Peacefully, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John N.B., surrounded by her family, following a lengthy illness on Aug. 20, 2008, Mrs. R. Arlene (Leighton) Johnston, wife of Clarence Johin Beaver Harbour, N.B., on April 24, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Glenna (Hawkins) Leighton.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Arlene is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Clarence; three sons, Perry Johnston (April Fraser), of Pennfield, N.B., Gerry (Lisa) Johnston, of Lorneville, N.B. and Jody Johnston (Shannan Waite), of Oak Bay, N.B.; two daughters, Connie (Terry) Hurst and Gina (Barry) Leslie, both of Pennfield, N.B.; eight grandchildren: Heather, Sarah, Ben, Melinda, Amanda, Gina, Jolene and CherylAnne; four great-grandchildren: Ashlynn, Memphis, Riley and Austin; five sisters: Frances Spear and Linda Holmes (John Bires), of Pennfield, N.B., Audrey (Eugene) Garnett, of Saint John, N.B., Janet Leighton of Pennfield, N.B., and Lana (Ricky) Polland, of Back Bay, N.B.; three brothers; : Edwin (Maria) Leighton, of Pennfield, N.B., Reid (Joan) Leighton and Carson (Bonnie) Leighton, both of Back Bay, N.B.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arlene was predeceased by one grandson, Bobby–Lee Johnston.
Arlene was a loving wife, mother, housewife and homemaker. She loved music, especially bluegrass and gospel. She enjoyed travelling, as well as knitting and quilting, and was an avid gardener. She was a member of the Pennfield Baptist Church and active in many church functions including "His Servants" and the choir. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
A celebration of Arlene’s life was held at the Pennfield Baptist Church on Monday, Aug. 20, 2008 at 2 p.m.
Interment followed at Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
In Arlene’s memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Hannan, Jamie Lee

Unexpectedly at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on July 28, 2008, Jamie Lee Hannan, husband of Mrs. SerenaSue Lynn (French) Hannan, of Old Ridge, N.B. Born at St. Stephen, N.B., on June 17, 1976, he was a son of Ronald and Ruby (Hanley) Hannan.
A loving husband, father, son, grandson and brother, Jamie is survived by his loving wife, SerenaSue; two daughters, Chloe and Caylee, both at home; parents, Ron and Ruby Hannan, of Kerr's Ridge, N.B.; two brothers, Jason (Danielle) Hannan and Jody (Bonnie) Hannan, both of Kerr's Ridge, N.B.; special nieces, Kaitlynn, Ashley and Hannah; maternal grandparents, Hilton (Alberta) Hanley, of Back Bay, N.B., and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Victor and Bertha Hannan.
Jamie was a totally devoted and loving family man who enjoyed spending precious time with his family and travelling. He was employed as a Customs Officer at St. Stephen for the past five years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed four-wheeling, motorcycling and was a talented and skilled handyman. He will be sadly missed by his large family and many friends.
Rested at the Seaview Full Gospel Church, Back Bay, N.B., from where the service was held on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating.
The interment followed at the St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.
Visiting hours were held at the church on Wednesday.
In Jamie's memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.

Weatherby, Mona Theresa

At her residence, Aug. 26, 2008, Mona Theresa (McShane) Weatherby, beloved wife of Melvin Joseph daughter of the late Lavera (Osgood) McShane and Mark McShane.
Survived by her husband, Melvin; two sons, Allan (Debi) Weatherby, St. Stephen, N.B., and Bob Weatherby, St. Stephen, N.B.; two daughters, Sandra (Gerald) McCrossin, St. Stephen, N.B., and Betty (Brent) Calder, Oak Bay, N.B.; two sisters, Juanita (Dick) Dickerson, Oromocto, N.B., and Geraldine (Harvey) Childs, Calais, Me.; one brother, James McShane, St. Stephen, N.B.; three sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Carl) McShane, St. Stephen, N.B., Cairine (Harold) McShane, St. Stephen, N.B., and Sallee (Paul) McShane, Calais, Me.; two grandsons, Christopher McCrossin, St. Stephen, N.B., and Ryan Weatherby, St. Stephen, N.B., three granddaughters, Karla McCrossin, St. Stephen, N.B., Stephanie Weatherby, Yellowknife, N.W.T., and Emily Weatherby, St. Stephen, N.B.; two step-granddaughters, Pam MacMillan, St. Stephen, N.B., and Melanie Duffy, Halifax, N.S.; three step-grandchildren, Danielle Hawkins, Dustin Hawkins and Jordyn MacMillan; two great- grandchildren, Ty and Kali, of St. Stephen, N.B.; several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents and, three brothers, Carl, Harold and Paul.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, Milltown Blvd., St. Stephen, N.B. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at 11 a.m.
Interment at Milltown Roman Catholic Cemetery, Barter Settlement, N.B.
Visiting hours will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Wells, Ronald Frank

Unexpectedly at his home in St. Andrews, N.B., Ronald Frank Wells, husband of Lesley Wells. Born in Calgary, Alta., the son of the late Albert Wells.
Ron studied in Sydney, Australia where he graduated from the University of New South Wales. Upon graduation and receiving his degree in Bachelor of Business & Hospitality, he went on to work around the world as a hotelier. His travels took him to many interesting and exciting places, finally bringing him to St. Andrews. Here he worked as a hospitality instructor with NBCC St. Andrews, for approximately 13 years, where he inspired and greatly enjoyed teaching his many students.
For the last few years, during his summer break, Ron enjoyed traveling extensively for CESO (Canadian Executive Services Overseas), taking him to such places as the Philippines, Russia, Ukraine and Panama.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Lesley, are his children, Jamie, Emma and Timmy, of St. Andrews, N.B.; his many aunts, uncles and cousins in Saskatchewan and Alberta, as well as his father-in-law in England and stepmother and stepsister in British Columbia.
By Ron’s request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. However, friends are welcome to attend a celebration of his life in a Service of Remembrance to be held on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at 2 p.m., at Wesley United Church, St. Andrews, N.B., Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate.
Donations to Hospice of Charlotte, the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Blood Bank would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, N.B.

Lyman, Helen Kathleen (nee Everett)

Memorial service for Helen Kathleen Lyman, (nee Everett), will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist, Chapel of Ease on Rte. 127, Chamcook, N.B.

Cooke, Freda Ruth

Peacefully, at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, N.B., on July 29, 2008, Mrs. Freda Ruth (Cooke) Cooke, wife of the late Myles Lewis Cooke, formerly of Back Bay, N.B., in her 98th year. Born at Watertown, Mass., on Feb. 26, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Pearl Cooke.
A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by one daughter, Darlene Robertson, of Back Bay, N.B.; one son, Douglas (Shirley) Quigley, also of Back Bay; seven grandchildren, Lisa Miner and her companion, Ralph Young, of Bridgetown, N.S., Kara (Brian) Golding, of Pennfield, N.B., Timmy Robertson, of Kermeous, B.C., Shelly (Garard) Arsenault, of Oak Bay, N.B., Mickey (Amy) Quigley, of Florida, Lori Quigley, of Portland, Me., and Douglas Quigley, Jr., of St. Stephen, N.B.; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Milton Quigley, and her second husband, Myles Cooke.
Freda was a member of the Church of Christ at Back Bay. She loved her cats and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B., from where the service was held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Conrad Cline officiating, followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery.
Visiting was held at the funeral home on Thursday.
In Freda's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.

Camick, Howard Elwood

The death of Howard Elwood Camick, of Leonardville, N.B., husband of the late Kathryn (Rogerson) Camick, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Aug. 28, 2008. Born at North West Harbour, N.B., on April 14, 1921, he was a son of the late William and Stella (Cook) Camick.
A loving father, grandfather, and brother, Howard is survived by two sons, Carl (Anne) Camick and Danny Camick, both of Leonardville, N.B.; one daughter, Glenda (Garnett) Green, of Fairhaven, N.B., two grandchildren, Brendon (Colleen) Green, of Leonardville, N.B., and Katrina (Tim) Martin, of Richardson, N.B.; three great-grandchildren, Jared and Ashley Green and Hayden Martin; two sisters, Sarah "Sadie" Arbeau, of Leonardville, N.B., and Hazel Justason, of Richardson, N.B., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, Kathryn, Howard was predeceased by two brothers, Franklin and Edward, and two sisters, Effie Bradford and Lillian Doughty.
Howard was a lifelong fisherman, working in various aspects of the industry, retiring from the weir and lobster fishery a few years ago. He was a member of the Fundy Weir Fishermen’s Association. Howard was also a member of the Leonardville Church of Christ for many years and served as Deacon and as a choir member. He was a member of the former Deer Island Men’s Choir.
Rested at the Leonardville Church of Christ, Leonardville, N.B., from where the service was held on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Geoff Conley and Rev. Joel Bridges officiating, followed by interment at the Fairhaven Community Cemetery at Calder’s Head.
Visiting was held at the Church on Sunday.
In Howard’s memory, donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Mitchell, Sidney Alfred

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Sidney Alfred Mitchell, age 60, of Valley Road, Charlotte County, N.B., at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Aug. 3, 2008. Born in St. Stephen, N.B., May 5, 1948, he was a son of Dora (Kagler) Mitchell and the late Ronald S. Mitchell.
Survived by one son, Darren (Lesley) Mitchell; one daughter, Shannon Guitar (Gene); two granddaughters, Alexis Guitar and Lauren Mitchell; his mother; two brothers, Lewis (Lori), and George (Fern) Mitchell; two sisters, Joyce Coulton (Albert), and Eleanor Moreau (Ronelle); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by his wife, Linda (Moffatt) Mitchell, and brother, Gerald Mitchell.
Resting at The S.O. Mehan and Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. from where funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug.6, 2008 at 2 p.m.
Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Interment will take place at Oak Bay Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Shriners Hospital, Cancer Fund or to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
