Young, L. Roberta

Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., surrounded by her family, on Aug. 25, 2008, Mrs. L. Roberta (Justason) Young, wife of Eldon I. Young, of Pennfield, N.B. Born at St. George, N.B., on Nov. 25, 1927, she was a daughter of the late George and Viola (Barry) Maxwell.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Roberta is survived by her husband, Eldon I. Young; two sons, William (Peggy) Justason and Barry (Sonja) Justason, both of Pennfield, N.B.; four grandchildren, Angela Justason (Paul), of Kemptville, Ont., Amanda Justason (Bruce Noble), of Sydney, N.S., Gregory (Megan) Justason, of St. George, N.B., and Lisa Justason, of Pennfield, N.B.; two great-grandsons, Evan Borthwick and Samuel Noble; four stepdaughters, Iris, Judith, Deborah and Cynthia; one stepson, Edward (Iona) Young, of Pennfield, N.B.; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Moore, of Garnet Settlement, N.B., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roberta was predeceased by her first husband, Roy Justason; one son, Brian; and three sisters, Olive Maxwell, Evelyn Cross, and Louise Wright.
Roberta was employed in the food industry for many years and managed the Strand Restaurant in Blacks Harbour, N.B., for 20 years. She was a member of the Pennfield Baptist Church and loved her Lord and Saviour. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch No. 40 in St. George, N.B.
Rested at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B., with visiting on Wednesday.
The service was held at the St. George Baptist Church on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
In Roberta’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Watkin, Dawn Anita

(Oct. 23, 1961 – Aug. 1, 2008) – It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing of Dawn Anita Watkin, of Pocologan, N.B., at Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., in her 46th year. Precious daughter of Brian and Joan (Young) Watkin; beloved sister of Lynne (nee Watkin) and Kevin Fries; cherished auntie of Amanda (Vincent) and Sasha (Jason), and great-nephew Rowan. She will be sadly missed by her many cousins, aunts and uncles in both Ontario and England, and many friends, colleagues, and students who loved her dearly.
Dawn will be forever remembered for her kind and generous heart, who gave selflessly to help others. Her playful spirit always brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. Dawn possessed a genuine love of nature and respect for all living things. A resource teacher at Fundy High School in St. George, N.B., she graduated from the University of Guelph in 1993, and obtained her teaching degree in Canterbury, England. Dawn later completed her Masters Degree in Counseling at the University of New Brunswick.
A special thank you to the staff of Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and compassion, and sincere appreciation to Greg Chambers and countless other friends and teachers who have showed their support during this difficult time.
A memorial service and celebration of life will take place at Fundy High Theatre, St. George, N.B., on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at 2 p.m.
Interment of her cremated remains to follow at a later date.

Sentse, Anthonie (Anton) Marinus

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Aug. 31, 2008; beloved husband of Amber (Stevens), son of the late Johannes and Pietrenella (vanLeven) Sentse.
Survived by his wife, Amber; one daughter, Ella Sentse, of Basswood Ridge, Charlotte County, N.B.; one brother, Rinus (Mieke) Sentse, of T’Harde, Holland; brother-in-law, Ad Anthonie, of Vlissengen, Holland; nephew, John (Adrian) Anthonie; nieces, Ingrid (Sergio) Fickel and Nicole (Benny) Sentse; several great-nephews.
Anton was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Gertruda (Trudy) Anthonie, and brother-in-law, Albert Stevens.
Anton was born in Yerseke, the Netherlands, on Dec. 27, 1929. He immigrated to Canada in August 1951 to Oak Hill, Charlotte County, N.B., to work on a farm. He later had his own farm on Basswood Ridge, N.B. He worked for Clearwater Well Drilling and later, Greenthumb Nursery, until he retired.
Anton enjoyed his daily trips to town and visiting all his friends.
Resting at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 at 2 p.m.
Visiting will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Oak Hill, N.B.

Young, Ruth (Munro)

The interment service for the late Ruth (Munro) Young, of Leonardville, Deer Island, N.B., will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008 at 2 p.m., at the Leonardville Community Cemetery.
Family and friends are welcome to share in this time.

Theriault, , Enid Elizabeth

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Aug. 29, 2008, Mrs. Enid Elizabeth (Eldridge) Theriault, wife of Mr. Leonard Theriault, of Beaver Harbour, N.B. Born in Beaver Harbour, N.B., on Oct. 30, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Maurice and Ida (Maxwell) Eldridge.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Enid is survived by her husband, Leonard; one son, Burton Theriault, of Beaver Harbour, N.B.; two daughters, Rosalind (Lloyd) Foster, of St. George, N.B., and Lenora Lomax, of Little Lepreau, N.B.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by three sisters and five brothers.
Prior to her retirement, Enid worked as a packer for Connors Bros. in Blacks Harbour for many years. She was a member of the O.E.S. Granite Chapter No. 15 of St. George and the Beaver Harbour Baptist Church.
At Enid’s request, no visitation will be held. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
In Enid’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Hooper, Violet Etta

Peacefully, at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, N.B., on Aug. 31, 2008, Mrs. Violet Etta (Cook) Hooper, wife of the late Byron Henry Hooper, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour. Born in Back Bay, N.B., on Dec. 4, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Gratis P. and Emma E. (Leslie) Cook.
A loving aunt to everyone, she is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Violet was predeceased by her seven brothers, Presley, Frank, Kinsbur, Carmen, Charlie, Arnold and Leo.
Violet was a lifelong member of the Sea View Full Gospel Church at Back Bay, N.B., where she taught Sunday School for many years and was very active in all church functions.
Prior to her retirement, she spent most of her working life with Connors Bros. at Back Bay as a sardine packer.
She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Resting at the Sea View Full Gospel Church, Back Bay, N.B., from where the service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Pastor Gordon Cooke officiating, followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery.
Visiting at the church on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
In Violet’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Pirie, Lynn Janine

Lynn Janine Pirie, formerly of Deer Island, N.B., residing in St. Stephen, N.B., passed peacefully on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 at Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B.
Survived by her mother, Avonelle (Fountain) Butler; sons, Reid Pirie (Melanie Pirie), of Deer Island, N.B., and Bruce Pirie (Trisha Roy), of St. Stephen, N.B.; grandson, Cody Pott, Ottawa, Ont.; longtime companion, Timothy A. Roy; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins; animals Tiny and Missy, and cats; and many close friends and bingo buddies.
Predeceased by her father, Bruce Butler.
Lynn, for many years, was the owner and operator of Hair Pro. She was an avid bingo player. She enjoyed this pastime with many friends from the area and also a pastime she shared with her best friend and mother, Avonelle Butler.
There will be no services by request of family, and she will rest on Deer Island, N.B.
Donations of one’s choice to animal shelter of your choice.

Williams, Mabel Winnifred

The passing of Mabel Winnifred Williams, of Fredericton, N.B., formerly of St. Stephen, N.B., wife of the late Charles Williams, occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at the Mountainside Lodge, Islandview, N.B. Born on Feb. 9, 1915, in Harvey Station, N.B., she was the daughter of the late James and Annie (Burrell) Essensa.
Mabel started working when she was 13 years old at her first job at the Ganong factory in St. Stephen. After staying home to raise her family, she worked as a cook at Carmen’s Diner in St. Stephen, N.B.
Mabel is survived by her daughters, Dawn Cobb and Lois Williams (Chuck Bowie), both of Fredericton, N.B.; sons, Paul Williams, of Fredericton, N.B., James Williams (Adria), of Brighton, Ont., and Warren Williams (Joyce), of Riverview, N.B.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Estabrooks (Ron), of St. Stephen, N.B.; son-in-law, Lloyd Yurett, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mabel was predeceased by her daughter, Elaine Yurett; sister, Elizabeth Edwards; and brothers, George, Lloyd and Walter Essensa.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, N.B., on Thursday, Sept. 4, from 7-9 p.m.
A funeral service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Watson Williams officiating.
Interment will take place in Dayton Cemetery, Fredericton, N.B.
For those who wish, remembrances to the Arthritis Society or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Smith, Shirley May

At Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Dec. 10, 2008, Shirley May Smith, wife of Paul S. Smith, of St. Stephen, N.B.; daughter of the late Barton C. and Melda Jane (Lutwick) Porter.
Survived by her husband, Paul; children: Steven (Gail), St. Andrews, N.B., Tony (Anita), Ponoka, Alta., Debbie McCombie (Charles), St. Stephen, N.B., Greg (Donna), Heathland, N.B., Susie Smith, Oak Bay, N.B., Todd, Fredericton, N.B., Belinda Mealey (Bob), St. Stephen, N.B., and Charles (Tammy), Basswood Ridge, N.B., 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, three brothers, one sister, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by one daughter, Peggy Lee; one brother and one sister.
Rested at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where funeral service was held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to Palliative Care, Alzheimers Society or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
