Vail, Enid Mae
Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Jan. 17, 2009, Mrs. Enid Mae (Wentworth) Vail, wife of the late Warren E. Vail, of St. George, N.B. Born at L’Etete, N.B., on Feb. 17, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Julia (Dewar) Wentworth.
A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Enid is survived by one son, Everett "Teddy" (Judy) Vail, of St. George, N.B.; three daughters: Julia Susan (William) Frye, of St. Stephen, N.B., Diane Louise (Joseph) Majtenyi, of St. Catherines, Ont., and Laura Anne Morehouse (Neil Morrow), of Oak Bay, N.B.; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Barbara) Wentworth, of Irwinton, Ga., and John (Paulette) Wentworth, of L’Etete, N.B.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Warren, she was predeceased by one grandson, Julian, and two great-grandsons, Kaylum and Mitchell.
Prior to her retirement, Enid worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years and retired from the Fundy Hospital at Blacks Harbour.
In her quiet time, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, reading and doing various puzzles. She was also a great lover of animals and had an interest in local history and genealogy. She was a long-time member of the Pennfield United Baptist Church. Enid will be sadly missed by her family, colleagues and many friends.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B., with visiting on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
The service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 at 2 p.m., from the Pennfield United Baptist Church, Pennfield, N.B., with Rev. Grant Alcorn officiating.
The interment will be held at the Brockway Union Cemetery in the spring.
In Enid’s memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, the Learning Disability Association or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Lund, Donna Jeanette
After a brief illness, Donna Jeanette Lund, of Sackville, N.B., passed away peacefully at the Sackville Hospital with her family at her side. Donna was in her 71st year. Born in Sackville, N.B., on Oct. 4, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Rensforth and Genesta Tower.
Donna was a mother, grandmother, and homemaker who had a great zest for life and spending time with friends and family. She especially loved spending time at her cottage at Ann's Acres and socializing with her friends in Sackville, in particular those at the Main Street Baptist Church, which she had attended since she was a child.
Donna will be sadly missed by her four children: sons, Chris, of Toronto, Ont., Peter (Cathy), of Fredericton, N.B., and David (Johanne) of Toronto, Ont; daughter Susan (Jonathon) Plomp, of Regina, Sask.,; one brother, Gordon, of Saint John, N.B.; her eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by Mervyn Lund, her husband of 45 years; and several brothers: Stuart, Hartley, Norman (Tommy), Roy and Donald, along with sister, Marguerite (Sloan).
A memorial service will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, N.B., (506-364-1300) on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Pastor Swanson officiating.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Hanlon, David William
Unexpectedly, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Feb. 28, 2009, David William Hanlon, husband of the late Mrs. Jean (Harrison) Hanlon, of St. George, N.B. Born at Riverside-Albert, N.B., on June 14, 1945, he was a son of the late William and Caroline (Dixon) Hanlon.
A loving companion, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his companion, Donna Hubbard, of St. George, N.B.; two sons: Timothy (Loretta) Hanlon, of Pennfield, N.B., and Dwayne (Stephanie) Hanlon, of Saint John, N.B.; four grandchildren: Mitchel, Kelsey, Mikayla and Brandon; one sister, Shirley (Chester) Trenholm, of Dorchester, N.B.; two brothers: Lloyd Hanlon, of Moncton, N.B., and Harry Hanlon, of Montreal, Que.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, Jean, he was predeceased by one brother, Donald Hanlon.
Dave worked as a security officer for Connors Bros. at Blacks Harbour, N.B. Prior to working for Connors Bros., Dave was a branch manager at Irving Oil in St. George from the mid 1970’s and operated the L’Etete Road Irving from 1988 – 1997 with his late wife, Jean.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and four wheeling. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 2 p.m., from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, St. George Funeral Home, St. George, N.B., with Rev. Grant Alcorn officiating.
In Dave’s memory, donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Seymour, Gladys Elizabeth
Gladys Elizabeth Seymour passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., with her daughter and granddaughter at her side. She was born July 20, 1912 in Belledune, N.B., youngest daughter of the late Michael and Katherine (Russell) Blair.
The family moved to Marysville, N.B., when she was approximately three years of age, and here she grew up and attended school. In her 20s, she was employed at the Marysville Cotton Mill. It was here in Marysville that she met and married her first husband, Cecil McCafferty, and their son Donald was born in the early 1930s.
In the late 1940s she met and married her second husband, Daniel Seymour, moved to Nashwaaksis, N.B., and had their daughter, Deborah. Here she lived for most of her life until shortly after Dan's death in December of 1995. She then moved to St. Stephen, N.B., to live with her daughter, until her admittance to a nursing home in May, 2008, after a period of failing health.
Gladys was a meticulous housekeeper, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She particularly enjoyed her many summers at the cottage at Grand Lake gardening, incessantly cleaning and generally taking care of anyone who happened to be under her roof at the moment.
She is survived by her son, Cecil Donald McCafferty (Shirley), of Dawson Creek, B.C.; her daughter, Debi Weatherby (Allan), of St. Stephen, N.B.; her grandchildren, Judy McAuley (Tim), of Radium Hot Springs, B.C., Tim McCafferty (Sharalynn), of Beaverlodge, Alta., Colleen O'Connell (Terry), of Creaston, B.C., Pamela MacMillan (Trevor), of St. Stephen, N.B., Melanie Duffy (Michael), of Halifax, N.S., and Ryan Weatherby, of St. Stephen, N.B.; her great-grandchildren, Melissa and Ryan Gauthier, Christy and Donny McCafferty, Kyre Glover and Tyler, Jeannine and Michael O'Connell, Danielle and Dustin Hawkins, and Jordyn MacMillan; her nieces, Dorothy McKay (Howard), of Oromocto, N.B., Agnes Seifried, Gladys Hartness, Muriel Hume and Doreen Williams; and nephews, Russell Stevens, of Austin, Texas, and Murry Wheaton. Special mention of her long-time friend and "adopted" daughter, Marg Murrin (Don), of Oromocto, N.B.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, N.B., on Friday from 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at 1 p.m., with Father Monte Peters as celebrant.
Interment will take place in St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery at a later date.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Morrow, Stella
At the Passamaquoddy Lodge, in St. Andrews, N.B., on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, Stella (Gracey) Morrow, of St. Andrews, N.B.; wife of the late Commodore Ian Morrow. Born in West Vancouver, B.C., she is the daughter of the late Alexander A. and Mary Ann (Prentice) Gracey.
A veteran of World War II, Stella served as a Leading WREN in the Canadian Navy from 1942 to 1946. She was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, St. Andrews, a member of the ACW, and also of the Royal Canadian Legion, Passamaquoddy Branch No. 8.
Stella is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer, of St. Andrews, N.B., and Gillian, of Toronto, Ont.; one sister, Sheilah Pappalardo, of Italy; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ian; daughter, Leslie; three sisters and one brother.
By Stella’s request, there will be no visitation; however friends and relatives are welcomed to attend a celebration of her life in a service of remembrance to be held in the spring at St. John The Baptist Chapel of Ease, Chamcook, N.B.
The interment will follow in the adjoining Memorial Gardens, Chamcook. Time and date of the service will be announced in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Greene, M. Afton
With his family by his side, M. Afton Greene went to be with his Lord on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen, N.B., after a long illness. He was born on March 25, 1940, the son of the late Medley and Margaret (Mitchell) Greene.
Afton is survived by his loving wife, Terry (Gardner) Greene, Wilson's Beach, N.B.; son, Trevor Greene (Jodie McCurdy), St. Stephen, N.B.; Mac Greene (Michelle McCurdy), Wilson's Beach, N.B.; daughter, Tracy Cline (Gerald Cline), Welshpool, N.B.; seven loving grandchildren: Brendan and Megan Greene, St. Stephen, Jeremy and Jessica Greene, Wilson's Beach, and Nicholas, Jeffrey and Jordan Cline, Welshpool; and great-granddaughter, Larissa Cline, Welshpool; one sister, Charmayne Tucker, Saint John, N.B.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by brother, Sheldon (Buddy) Greene, and wife, Linda (Ryan) Greene.
Afton was a life-long resident of Campobello, who was loved and well-respected by the community. He was in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps from 1959 - 1962. After returning to Campobello, he worked at various jobs until becoming Park Manager at Herring Cove Park in 1976, retiring in 2002. He made many life-long friends while
at the park and also as a member
of AA.
A memorial service will be held at the United Pentecostal Church, Wilson's Beach, N.B., on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the church.

At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Jan. 23, 2009, Frederick Leonard Jackson, of St. Stephen, N.B.; husband of Phyllis (Smith) Jackson, and son of Edna Mae (Lyman) Jackson and the late Harvard Jackson.
Survived by his wife; two daughters, Carol Mason (Tom), of Rothesay, N.B., and Susan Irving (Jeff), of St. Stephen, N.B.; two sons, Larry (Cherie), of Edmonton, Alta., and Darren, of London, Ont.; two sisters, Elinor McGinley and Barbara Atkinson; one brother, Richard Jackson (Elaine); his mother, Mae; grandchildren, Rebecca, Lindsay and Mallory Mason, Brett, Ashlie and David Jackson, Greg and Scott Irving; one great-granddaughter, Rylan Rose Soderman; several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by infant son, Donald, two brothers and one sister.

Miller, Frances Marion
The death of Frances Marion Miller (Armstrong), wife of John P. (Jack) Miller for 58 years, occurred at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., following a lengthy illness, on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008. Frances was born on Sept. 27, 1930 to the late Oscar and Mildred (Maguire) Armstrong.
She spent her early years in Elmsville, N.B., then moved to Falmouth (Portland), Me., where she lived with her aunt and uncle and graduated from Falmouth High School in 1948 with a diploma in business and bookkeeping. She later moved to Saint John, where she worked for several companies as a bookkeeper and met her husband, Jack, whom she married in 1950.
In 1989, upon their retirement, Frances and Jack moved to their country home in Elmsville where she spent many happy years in her garden and kitchen. Frances was active in many community affairs. She loved to cook and gave freely of her time and energy to church suppers and community affairs and provided support to numerous charities.
Frances was a member of the Christ Church in Elmsville, the Anglican Church Women (ACW), Elmsville Women’s Institute, Order of the Eastern Star, St. Stephen Chapter No. 8, and the Lancaster Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Branch No. 69, to name a few.
In addition to her husband, Frances is survived by her sister, Mildred Justason, of Pennfield, N.B.; brothers-in-law, Alan Miller, Saint John, N.B., and Robert (Bob) Miller, Kingston Peninsula, N.B.; nieces, Ann Hoben, of Saint John, N.B., Patricia (Patsy) McKinney, Rothesay, N.B., Mary Mallory, Saint John, N.B., and Della Day, Saint John, N.B.; nephews: Edgar Johnston, St. Andrews, N.B., Leonard Maxwell, Calgary, Alta., Oscar Maxwell, Calgary, Alta., James (Jim) Miller, Johnston Settlement, N.B., Stephen Miller, Saint John, N.B., William (Bill) Miller, Kingston Peninsula, N.B., and Leonard Miller, Saint John, N.B.
Frances was predeceased by two brothers, Warren Armstrong and Watson Armstrong; and two sisters, Margaret Maxwell and Mae Johnston.
The family will receive visitors at Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, on Tuesday from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held from Humphreys’ Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at 11 a.m.
Reception will follow in the Humphreys’ Community Room and Reception Centre.
Interment will take place in the spring in Lower Elmsville Historic Cemetery, Elmsville, N.B.
