Young, Stanford Getchell
Peacefully, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Dec. 23, 2008, Stanford Getchell Young, husband of Mrs. G. Myrtle (Boyce) Young, of Leonardville, Deer Island, N.B. Born at Leonardville, N.B., on Sept. 7, 1921, he was a son of the late Warren and Maime (Conley) Young.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, in addition to his wife, Myrtle, he is survived by four daughters: Sandra (Richard) Fiander, of Bocabec, N.B., Paula (John) Gilman, of Lambertville, N.B., Velma (Stanley) Lord, of Lambert’s Cove, N.B., and Brenda (Colin) Mitchell, of Stuart Town, N.B.; seven grandchildren: Andrew Lord (Stephanie Stewart), Betsy (Jay) Jones, Tony Gilman (Katie Brennan), Leanne (Michael) Silvaggio, Shawn Lord (Sabrina) and Jody and Gavin Mitchell; five great-grandchildren: Ryan, Isabella, Julianna, Kiera and Keaton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Stanford was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Roberta Mae (Eastman) Young; three brothers, Cyril, Melville and Decosta; and three sisters, Thelma Tewksbury, Lois Musetta and Mona Sokolis.
Stanford was a fisherman for many years and, prior to his retirement, he became a highway supervisor for the NB Department of Transportation, where he worked for 18 years.
He enjoyed gardening and spending time at his cottage at Birney Lake, N.B., and prior to his brothers passing, he could be seen touring the island with his brother Decosta Young, which was one of his favourite things to do.
He was a member of the Leonardville Church of Christ and the Abanaki Lodge No. 55 where he was a member for 60 years, as well as a Shriner.
Rested at the Leonardville Church of Christ, Deer Island, N.B., from where the service was held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Murray Spencer officiating, followed by interment at the Fairhaven Community Cemetery at Calder’s Head, N.B.
Visiting was held at the church on Friday.
A Masonic tribute was held at the church just prior to the service on Saturday.
In Stanford’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Gayton, William Michael
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Dec. 30, 2008, William Michael Gayton, husband of Dorothy F. (Caissie) Gayton, of St. Stephen, N.B.
Survived by his wife, Dorothy; four daughters, Pam Walton (Robert), Antigonish, N.S., Judy Gayton, Medicine Hatt, Alta., Susan Leroux, St. Stephen, N.B., and Nancy Gayton, Guelph, Ont.; five grandchildren; one brother, Joe Gayton, Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Carol Ann Kesselering (Dave), Baltimore, MD.; several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, Milltown Blvd., St. Stephen, N.B., on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at 11 a.m.
Interment at Milltown Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Family will receive relatives and friends at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to Hospice of Charlotte or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Sewell, Muriel Mae
At Loch Lomond Villa, Saint John, N.B., surrounded by her family, on Jan. 29, 2009, Muriel Mae Sewell, widow of Russell Gordon Sewell. Formerly of St. Stephen, N.B.; born April 8, 1923, in Bull Lake, N.B.; she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Margaret (McMinn) Lawson.
She moved to St. Stephen in 1945, upon her marriage to Russell Sewell. In later years she moved to Mayfield, N.B., before going to Loch Lomond Villa, in Saint John, to be near her family.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Life Member Ladies Auxiliary, St. Croix Branch No. 9, St. Stephen and 50-year member of Queen Mary Chapter No. 4, OES.
She is survived by her only child, Keith, and his wife, Alvina, Saint John, N.B.; her favourite grandchildren, April Sewell, of Halifax, N.S., and Keith Sewell, Jr.. of Victoria, B.C.; brothers, LaFay Lawson (Ada), Woodstock, N.B., and Robin Lawson (Joan), Bull Lake, N.B.; sister, Fern Turner, Burlington, Ont.; many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband; brother, George Lawson; and sister, Alice Scott.
Rested at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where funeral service was held on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at 3 p.m.
Interment at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery at a later date.
A Legion Auxiliary service was held at the funeral home on Saturday evening, Jan. 31, followed by a Queen Mary Chapter OES service.
Visiting hours were held at the funeral home on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the St. Croix Vocational Centre or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
Reception followed the funeral service at the Masonic Hall, Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B.
Stackhouse, Thomas Bruce
At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Jan. 31, 2009, Mr. T. Bruce Stackhouse, husband of Mrs. P. Joan (Frye) Stackhouse, of Back Bay, N.B. Born at Saint John, N.B., on June 25, 1936, he was a son of the late James Richard and Annie Milicent (Scott) Stackhouse.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by two sons: Rodney Bruce (Debbie) Stackhouse, of Salisbury, N.B., and Brian Keith (Debbie) Stackhouse, of Hampton, N.B.; five grandchildren: Kirsten, Leandra, Michelle, Logan and Rachael; one brother, Ronald (Audrey) Stackhouse, of Grand Bay–Westfield, N.B.; five sisters: Muriel Stackhouse, of Ottawa, Ont., Laura Harting, of Kingston Peninsula, N.B., Evelyn (Allison) Sheffar and Marjorie Calvin, both of Saint John, N.B., and Linda (John) Wilson, of Nepean, Ont.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one sister, Edith Creaser, and five brothers, Fred, George, Edward, Lloyd and Harold.
Prior to his retirement, Bruce had worked for Canada Post as a postal clerk for eight years. He also worked and had an extensive career with the YMCA in various locations including as Aquatic Director with the YMCA at Saint John, Physical Director with the YMCA at St. Thomas, Ont., the New Brunswick Protestant Orphan’s Home as Program Director, and the Moncton Boys & Girls Club as the Assistant Director. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sportsman.
There will be no visiting or service. A graveside service will be held at the St. George Rural Cemetery with Rev. Mary Ann Langmaid officiating at a time to be announced in the spring.
In Bruce’s memory, donations to the St. Mark’s Anglican Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Hilditch, Anthony E.
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Jan. 1, 2009, Anthony E. Hilditch, beloved husband of Susan M. Marpole, of Chamcook, N.B. Predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Everett) Hilditch.
Survived by his children: Christopher (Marie), Thomas (Susan), and Susie (Ron); grandchildren, Francesca, Lisa (Kevin), Capri and Larry; stepdaughter, Anna Johnson; great-grandchildren, Ava and Alexandra; sister-in-law, Bunny (Everett) Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.
No visitation as requested by Tony.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Miller, Frances Marion
The funeral service for the late Frances Marion (Armstrong) Miller, wife
of John P. (Jack) Miller of Elmsville, N.B., was held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 in the chapel of Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, N.B.
Canon John Matheson officiated, assisted by Ven. Archdeacon Lyman Harding and Rev. Gethin Edward. Euology was given by Stephen Miller. The organist was Ann Webber. A special musical tribute was given by David Humphreys, accompanied by Ann Webber.
Honourary pallbearers were Jim Miller, Stephen Miller, Leonard Miller, Edgar Johnston, Doug McKinney, Len Day and Floyd Hoben.
Among the numerous floral and spiritual tributes and donations made were those from: the Anglican Church Women (ACW), Order of the Eastern Star St. Stephen Chapter No. 8 and Lancaster Legion Women’s Auxiliary Branch No. 69, and to: the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice of Greater Saint John and Christ Church, Elmsville.
A reception immediately followed the service held in the Humphreys’ Community Room and Reception Centre, arranged by the Anglican Church Women (ACW) and W.I.
Interment will take place later in the spring at Lower Elmsville Historic Cemetery, Elmsville, N.B.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all of the wonderful staff of Charlotte County Hospital for their kind and thoughtful care of Frances during her illness. Many grateful thanks to friends and family for your support and prayers during this difficult time.
Lambert, Marjorie Helena
Peacefully, at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, N.B., on Jan. 30, 2009, Mrs. Marjorie Helena Lambert, wife of the late Carvell Lambert, formerly of Back Bay, N.B. Born at Deer Island, N.B., on Feb. 22, 1923, she was the daughter of the late H. Blanchard and Clara (Lord) Lambert.
A loving mother and grandmother, Marjorie is survived by one son, Chester (Dianne) Lambert, of Back Bay, N.B.; one daughter, Marilyn Wilson (James MacPhee), of Lambertville, N.B.; six grandchildren: Dale Chaffey, Bonnie Haddon, David Chaffey, Jennifer Cooke, Jeremy Wilson and Kristi Cooke; 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Albin Lambert, and Atwood and Leroy Rogerson.
Prior to her retirement, Marjorie was an insurance agent with C&M; Lambert Insurance for 35 years, retiring in 1995. She loved playing and teaching piano and enjoyed knitting. She was a member of the Sea View Full Gospel Church at Back Bay and a life-long member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada.
Rested at the Sea View Full Gospel Church, Back Bay, N.B., from where the service was held on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at 2 p.m.
The interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Deer Island, N.B., in the spring.
Visiting was held at the church on Saturday.

Mitchell, Erma
At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Jan. 4, 2009, Mrs. Erma (Leslie) Mitchell, wife of the late Samuel Mitchell, of Back Bay, N.B. Born at Back Bay, N.B., on April 18, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Cora Mae (Cook) Leslie, and stepfather, the late George A. Matheson.
A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by one daughter, Viola Mitchell, of Back Bay, N.B.; two sons, Richard (Agatha) and Meldon (Laura) Mitchell, both of Back Bay, N.B.; one daughter-in-law, Jeanette Mitchell, of Back Bay, N.B.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Nellie Matheson and Hilda (Ronald) Hanley, both of Back Bay, N.B.; one brother, Ernest Matheson, of Back Bay, N.B.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Samuel; one son, Weldon Mitchell; one sister, Marguerite Hanley; three brothers, Arthur Leslie, Frederick Matheson and Alvy Leslie; and four stepbrothers, Henry, Gerald, Peter and Kenneth Matheson.
Erma worked for a short time at Connors Bros. at Back Bay and was a member of the Seaview Full Gospel Church. She enjoyed knitting, children and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
Resting at the Seaview Full Gospel Church, Back Bay, N.B., from where the service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating.
Interment will be held at the St. George Rural Cemetery in the spring.
Visiting was held at the church on Monday and will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
