Robinson, David Carlyle, Sr.

David Carlyle Robinson, Sr., of Oak Haven, N.B., husband of J. Elaine (Delaney) Robinson, passed away peacefully April 8, 2009, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B. Born in St. Stephen, N.B., on Dec. 10, 1933, David was the son of the late Carlyle and Edith (Webb) Robinson, of Milltown, N.B.
David graduated from Milltown Superior School in 1950, and then from the St. Croix Commercial College in 1952. Before moving to Saint John, David worked in the office for Haley Lumber in St. Stephen, and then for the Hudson McMackin Accounting Firm of Saint John. From this it lead him to a 35-year career with J&A; McMillan Ltd., where he retired as owner and president.
David was a member of the United Way, the Canadian Office Products Association, and the New Brunswick Office Products Association, where he served as treasurer. David was treasurer of the Milltown Superior School Reunion committee.
David was well known for his musical talents, and was a featured tenor soloist for Centenary Queen United, St. Mark’s United, in Saint John, and Kirk-McColl United, in St. Stephen.
David was one of the founding members of the "Friends of Music", a group of talented singers which provided a lot of joy singing for people, and raising money for various charities. David was a member of the Saint John Oratorio choir, the Carriden choir and later "The Voices of the Bay", a mass choir contrived of choirs from around Passamaquoddy Bay.
David gave generously of his time and served for many years as president and vice-president of the New Brunswick Competitive Festival of Music. He was a devoted member of the Saint John Kiwanis Club, where he held the chair of president and vice-president, and for 10 years as treasurer. After his retirement, he joined the Kiwanis Club of St. Stephen. One of David’s proud accomplishments was being on the Board of Directors for the Kiwanis Training Center, later known as Key Industries. David was instrumental in the forming and development of the Kiwanis Housing project.
David also enjoyed curling and spending time outdoors. In 1993, David and his wife moved to Oak Haven, N.B., to enjoy their retirement “by the bay”, a place dear to his heart for more than 60 years, where he spent time gardening and boating. Not a man to be idle for very long, David became organist and choir director for his church, Kirk- McColl United, and continued to do so even during ill health.
Besides his loving wife of 51 years, Elaine, he is survived by four children: Dr. Julie Small (James), of Lower Onslow, N.S.; David Robinson Jr. (Lynn), of Mermaid, P.E.I., Jennifer Robinson (Ronald), of Toronto, Ont., and Ashley Philip Robinson, of Oak Haven, N.B. David was very proud of his five grandchildren: Jade Robinson, Florence Small, Adeline Small, Brett Robinson and Josef Rand. David is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gillis, of Riverview, N.B., and her daughter, Lois (William) Drew, of Saint John, N.B.
A funeral service in celebration of David’s life was held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from Kirk-McColl United Church, St. Stephen, N.B. Rev. Dr. Mark Hatfield officiated, assisted by Rev. Doug Cosman. The euology was given by David's daughter, Dr. Julie Ann Small.
Scriptures were also read by Dorothy Murchie. Special musical tributes were given by the church choir accompanied by organist, Joyce Walker, The Friends of Music and soloist, David Humphreys, both accompanied by Elizabeth Janes.
Honourary pallbearers were Ronald McAdam, Patrick Toole, son-in-law Ronald Rand, Donald Thompson, John Cashwell, John Jones, Duncan McGeachy, Paul Logan, William Drew, E. James Small, Duane Monaghan, Kenneth Jenkins, Frank Whitters and Joseph Casey.
Members of the Kirk-McColl United Church UCW, St. Stephen and Saint John Kiwanis clubs attended in a formal body.
A reception immediately followed in the church hall.
Donations to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, IWK Hospital Foundation or Kirk-McColl United Church would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, N.B.

Stevens, Thelma Georgina

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on March 5, 2009 following a brief illness, Mrs. Thelma Georgina (Weatherby) Stevens, wife of the late Earl Malcolm Stevens, of Second Falls, N.B. Born at Debert, N.S., on August 6, 1933, she was a daughter of the late George and Sadie (Ferguson) Weatherby.
A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by three sons: Allan (Anita), Kenneth (Sharon), and Harry, all of Second Falls, N.B.; three daughters: Marilyn Stevens and Edith (Emerson) Jordan, both of Second Falls, N.B., and Sharon (Howard) McLean, of Saint John, N.B.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Delbert Weatherby, of Debert, N.S.; two sisters, Minnie McDougall, of Lakeville, Ont., and Mae (Don) McDougall, of Debert, N.S., as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.
Prior to her retirement, Thelma worked for Connors Brothers in Blacks Harbour for a number of years. She loved doing her puzzles and enjoyed cooking as well as bird watching and feeding the birds.
Rested at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B., from where the service was held from the Gary E. Waycott memorial chapel on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 2 p.m.
Interment will be held in the St. George Rural Cemetery in the spring.
Visiting was held at the funeral home on Friday.
In Thelma’s memory, donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Dupuis, Gladys Elaine

Gladys Elaine Armstrong Dupuis (1920 - 2009), 89, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009 in Toronto, Ont., where she had recently moved to be closer to her family. Born in L’Etete, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Burton and the late Grace (née Stewart) Armstrong.
Mrs. Dupuis attended high school in St. George, N.B., and studied at the Fredericton Teachers’ College, Mt. Allison University and Bishop’s University. She was a "born" teacher, dedicated to her students and a firm believer in the power of education. Her teaching career spanned 24 years, beginning in Deer Island and Grand Manan, N.B., and included Shawinigan Falls and Arvida, Que.
Gladys also enjoyed many years living abroad in Guyana, South America; Guinea, West Africa; Pakistan and Madagascar, where her husband was consultant for the Aluminium Company of Canada.
Upon retirement, Gladys and Joseph returned home and for many years enjoyed the company of friends and family in Shediac, N.B., their winter home in Port Charlotte, Fla., and more recently, at the Robichaud apartments on Murphy Avenue, Moncton.
She is survived by two daughters: Mary Dupuis, of Toronto, Ont., and Anna (Sol) Zuckerman, of Montreal, Que.; three grandchildren: Sasha, Ariel and Rae-Dawn Zuckerman.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 2008; two sisters, Margaret Richardson and Helen Boxall.
Funeral service in the summer.
Interment in St. Anselme Parish Cemetery, Dieppe, N.B.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to the nurses and physicians of the palliative care unit at the Toronto Grace Hospital in Toronto, Ont., for their loving and compassionate care.

Williamson, Linnie M.

Peacefully, at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, N.B., on Sunday, March 8, 2009, Linnie M. (Calder) Williamson, wife of the late Capt. Harold L. Hurley and the late Edward Williamson. Born on Campobello Island, N.B., in 1915, she is the daughter of the late Capt. Herbert and Mabel Calder.
Linnie lived her early years on Deer Island, raising her family. She taught school on Deer Island and in St. Andrews. Linnie was a longtime resident of St. Andrews and was actively involved with the St. Andrews United Baptist Church, and other organizations including the Order of the Eastern Star, where she held the office of Worthy Matron, and was Past Regent of the I.O.D.E.
She loved cooking and helping others in times of sickness or distress.
Linnie is survived by sons: Keith Hurley (Laurie), Dartmouth, N.S., and Reid Hurley (Jeanine), St. Andrews, N.B.; daughter, Sherry Hull (John), Calgary, Alta.; seven grandchildren: Kevin, Leigh and Mark Hurley, Dartmouth, N.S., Mary-Anne Hurley-Corbyn, Joanne Stone, Fredericton, N.B., and Jennifer and Jocelyn Hull, Calgary, Alta.; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Cavanagh, Calais, Me.; two nieces, one nephew.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Hartford and Herbert, and one sister, Evelyn.
Resting at St. Andrews United Baptist Church, St. Andrews, N.B., from where the service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Buck Booker officiating.
The interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Deer Island, N.B.
The family will receive visitors at the church on Wednesday evening from 7–9 p.m. only.
A tribute service will be conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star, St. Stephen branch, on Wednesday evening, 6:45 p.m., at the church.
Donations to the St. Andrews United Baptist Church or the Passamaquoddy Lodge would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, N.B.

McCann, John Albert

At Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., April 13, 2009, John Albert McCann, husband of Dorothy E. (Murphy) McCann, of St. Stephen, N.B.; son of the late Leo Thomas and Edna Grace (Burridge) McCann.
John was an avid sports fan and his passion was for the New York Yankees, but bowling was his favourite pastime, along with reading and crossword puzzles. He was a lifelong member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 9 and the St. Croix Bowling Club of Calais, Me. He was very proud of his Scottish and Irish heritage, spending many hours researching his family tree. John’s summers were spent up on the hill at Pleasant Lake enjoying his time and his grandkids and many friends.
Survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter; Beth Hovey (Steve), St. Stephen, N.B.; one son, Tom McCann, British Columbia; three grandchildren, Angie, Sherry and Billy; two brothers, Tom (Jean) McCann, Cape Breton, N.S., and Kevin (Brenda) McCann, Saint John, N.B.; aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Union Street, St. Stephen, N.B., on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 11 a.m.
Interment at Milltown Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., on Thursday, April 16, from 7 to 9 p.m.
St. Stephen Branch No. 9, Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a tribute service at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

McBride, James Patrick

At his residence, March 9, 2009, James Patrick McBride, of Moores Mills, N.B.; son of the late J. George and Elsie M. (Hatt) McBride.
Survived by his wife, Marla; son, Matthew; faithful companion, Jasper; sisters-in-law, Kathleen McBride, St. Stephen, N.B., and Jerri Mylen (Jeff), Hampden, Me.; several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by a brother, Everett McBride, and a sister, Lillian Kneeland.
Rested at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where funeral service was held on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 2 p.m.
Interment at Moores Mills Rural Cemetery.
Visiting hours were held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

McDonnell, Robert John “Bob”

Unexpectedly, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Friday, April 3, 2009, Robert John “Bob” McDonnell, husband of Sharon (Urquhart) McDonnell, of St. Stephen, N.B. Born in Stratford, Ont., he is the son of the late Jack and Eva (Hunter) McDonnell.
Bob was a steel maker for 32 years, employed with Stelco of Canada located in Hamilton, Ont. He retired in 1988 and relocated to St. Stephen with his wife, Sharon.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Sharon, are his children: two
daughters, Yvonne McDonnell, of Hamilton, Ont., and Theresa Sartor, of Burlington, Ont.; four sons: Michael, John, Robert and Frank, all of Edmonton, Alta.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his sister, Patricia.
By Bob’s request, there will be no visitation or service.
Cremation has take place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, N.B.

Tees, M. Theresa

Unexpectedly at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, Mary Theresa (LeCouffe) Tees, of St. Andrews, N.B.; wife of the late Ronald A.W. Tees, who passed away not less than a month ago. Born in Jacquet River, N.B., she is the daughter of the late Jerome and Virginia (Tardiff) LeCouffe.
Theresa is survived by her daughters, Linda Tees (Leslie Katona), Deborah Tees (Dave LaCointe) and Bonnie, all of Montreal, Que., and Virginia Tees, of Vancouver, B.C., eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Furlott, of Piedmont, Que.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Theresa was predeceased by four sisters and five brothers.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, April, 18, 2009 at Holy Rosary Church, St. Stephen, NB. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Fr. John Keoughan. Scriptures were read by grandson Alexander Tees. Euology was given by daughter Linda Tees. The church choir and soloist, David Humphreys, were accompanied by organist Mary Lou Graham.
A reception immediately followed at the Humphreys Community Room and Reception Centre. A tribute to Theresa was given by her daughter Virginia Tees.
Donations to the MS Society or to the St. Stephen Elementary Smart Board Program would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences and donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com
