Roy, Frances Eleanor
Frances Eleanor (nee Elliott) Roy, of Kingston, N.S., formerly of Yarmouth, N.S. and McAdam, N.B., passed away at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, N.S., on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at the age of 93.
She is survived by her daughters, Eleanor JoAnn Nickerson and husband, Bob; Shirley Estey and husband, David; and Diane McLean and husband, Jack. She was a grandmother of eight; great-grandmother of 13 and great-great-grandmother of one.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Roy, and son, Elliott Michael Roy.
A private memorial service will be held at Rockland Cemetery in McAdam, N.B., at a later date.
Donations in memory may be made to the charity of choice.
White, Gloria Margaret Williams
Gloria Margaret Williams White, 49, daughter of Ken and Marilyn Williams, formerly of St. Stephen, N.B., passed away Aug. 7, 2009, of complications following a heart transplant performed May 22 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., where she had been a research nurse.
Gloria leaves behind her parents of Lima, Ohio; her husband, Bill, and son, Billy, of Annapolis, Md.; sisters, Jan (Mark) Taber, of Lima, Ohio and Barbara Cure, of Penn Yan, N.Y.; and brother, Ken (Angie) Williams, of Hamilton, Ont.
A memorial service will be held Sept. 26, 2009 at 2 p.m., at Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis, Md.,
Ramsdell, Lester Robert (Bob)
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Sept. 3, 2009, Lester (Bob) Robert Ramsdell, husband of the late Carolyn D. (Matthews) Ramsdell, of Mayfield, N.B.
Survived by two sons: Andrew (Becky), Baileyville, Me., and Lester (Bob) Robert Ramsdell, Jr. (Diane), Mechanicsville, Va.; three stepsons: Colin Mitchell (Betty), St. Stephen, N.B., Hugh Mitchell (Linda), of Blacks Harbour, N.B., and Karl Mitchell (Claudette), Pennfield, N.B.; one sister, Stella; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private graveside service was held.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to Charlotte County Cancer, the Diabetes Society or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Munroe, Helen Josephine
Unexpectedly, at her residence on Sept. 2, 2009, Helen Josephine (Noddin) Munroe, wife of the late John Charles Munroe, of Beaver Harbour, N.B. Born in Blacks Harbour, N.B., on Sept. 13, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Muriel Craig.
A loving mother, sister and aunt, she is survived by one son, Kevin Munroe, of Moncton, N.B.; one daughter, Kimberley (Scott) Anderson, of Bedford, N.S.; one sister, Shirley (Bernard) Blinn, of Coniston, Ont.; three brothers: Danny (Nellie) Wright, of Moncton, N.B., Arnold Craig (Linda Pilkington), of Coniston, Ont., and Jimmy (Carol) Kavanaugh, of Calais, Me.; several half brothers and sisters; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen was a well known and respected school teacher, who taught in Blacks Harbour and Beaver Harbour schools for 32 years. She also enjoyed tutoring children in her home up until her passing. She was an avid walker who enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Local children will sadly miss the Christmas and Halloween displays she spent countless hours on.
Helen was a member of the Brunswick Curling Club and attended the Wesleyan Church, Blacks Harbour. She will be sadly missed by the many friends she had made and the students she had taught over the years.
Rested at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B., where visiting was held on Saturday.
The service was held from the Wesleyan Church, Blacks Harbour, N.B., on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2009 at 4:30 p.m., with Rev. Jeff Hoyt officiating, followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery.

Baker, Gilbert (Gil) Joseph
With family by his side, Gilbert Joseph (Gilly) Baker (June 11, 1960 – Sept. 4, 2009) passed away Sept. 4, 2009 at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B. Born in Coles Island, N.B., he was the son of the late George and Emily Baker, and is predeceased by his close sister, Bianca Proudfoot.
Gilly battled a chronic lung disease throughout his life that, although it often took his breath away, did not demolish his spirit, his sense of humour or his strength. Gil’s character and memory is reflected in his amazing photography, various projects, his two elusive cats, Max and Ozzy, and his survivors.
Gil is survived by sisters, Alison Baker (Jeff), Deedee Baker (John) and Bonnie Darrah (Ted); brothers, Brett Baker and Chuck Baker (Joyce); brother-in-law, Charlie Proudfoot; nieces, Maddison Proudfoot and Courtney Baker; and nephews, Taylor Proudfoot, Jason Darrah and Travis Baker.
A celebration of Gil’s life will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at 7 p.m.
Family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m.

Billingsley, Kenneth Francis
At the Charlotte County Hospital, on Sept. 5, 2009, Kenneth Francis Billingsley, of St. Stephen, N.B.; son of the late William F. and Edith (Fraser) Billingsley.
Survived by his wife, Irene E. (Libby) Billingsley; sons, Jeff, Kenneth, Bernard, Michael and Gary; daughters, Jeannie, Maureen and Lori-Ann; several grandchildren; sister, Charlene and niece, Roberta.
Predeceased by his parents and son, Frank.
Funeral service will be held at the Union Street Atlantic Baptist Church, Union Street, St. Stephen, N.B., on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at 2 p.m.
Interment at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.

MacLeod, Ruth Alberta
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Sept. 6, 2009 Ruth Alberta (Black) MacLeod, of St. Andrews, N.B.; widow of Dr. Forbes MacLeod.
Survived by one niece and one nephew.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at 10 a.m., at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Saint John, N.B.

MacMorran, John Folsom
At Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Sept. 5, 2009, John Folsom MacMorran, of St. Stephen, N.B. John was born in St. Stephen, N.B., on Aug. 17, 1924; son of the late Albert Ernest MacMorran and Olive Folsom MacMorran. On his mother’s side, his great-great-grandfather, Benjamin Pomeroy, was the first settler on what is now known as Pomeroy Ridge, N.B.
John became a permanent resident of the United States in 1926, when his parents moved to Hill Street in Calais, Me. He became a naturalized American citizen in Laconia, N.H., in 1950. He attended the public schools in Calais, Me.; graduated from Calais Academy, valedictorian of the Class of 1942. He entered Bowdoin College as one of four State of Maine Scholar recipients in September 1942. For three years consecutively, was recipient of Charles Irwin Travelli Fund scholarship. He graduated from Bowdoin in June 1946 with a major in French and a minor in Latin; winner of the Col. William Henry Owen Premium. He also completed graduate work at Ecole francaise de Middlebury College in the summer of 1949, Boston University Graduate School, College of Liberal Arts, Master of Arts degree in French literature, June 1950, Boston University School of Education, courses in School Administration and Supervision, summer of 1954, University of Maine in Portland, counselling and guidance courses, 1959; counselling institute, Northfield, Mount Hermon School in June 1954, Wisconsin State University, summer 1966, theatre institute.
He was appointed instructor of Latin and French at Tilton School, June 1946-1951. Director of musical activities. Appointed administrative assistant to the President, Endicott College, September 1951 - June 1953. Appointed headmaster of Leavitt Institute, Turner Center, Maine, September 1953-1963. Returned to Tilton School 1963 as Latin teacher and head of campus living; chairman of disciplinary committee. Appointed headmaster of Tilton School, April 1971-1982.
His travels included eastern United States, Canada, British Isles, Europe and Russia. His interests were in music, theatre, reading, biography and history, tennis and mountain climbing.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, Republicans, Grange, Past Master, Masons, National Associations of Secondary School Principals, Independent Schoolmasters Association, Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Author of A Letter of John Gulnac – National Poetry Anthology, Educational Practices – Maine State Principals’ Handbook and Teaching for Today – Bowdoin Alumnus Magazine.
In 1987 he retired to Pomeroy Ridge, N.B., and served as church organist for local churches. He served one term on the local school board, was named Trustee of the Charlotte County Museum, as well as the St. Croix Historical Society. He was organist at the St. Stephen Presbyterian Church for 15 years.
Since his whole life was in education, he established the Folsom-MacMorran Scholarship for students from Pomeroy, Scotch and Basswood ridges, where his ancestors came from, in the amount of $200, 000. Since he went to Bowdoin from Calais, he also had established (to honour his mother) the Olive Folsom MacMorran Scholarship in the amount of $350, 000, providing financial aid to students from Calais or Washington County, Me.
