Eldridge, Rhoda Fern

Rhoda Fern Eldridge passed peacefully into the arms of God at her home, at St. George, N.B., on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, surrounded by family. She was born on Sept. 2, 1921, at L’Etete, N.B., to Bert and Edith (McMahon) Dick.
A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by one son, Allen (Laura) Eldridge, of St. George, N.B.; three daughters, Patricia Anderson, Evangeline "Eva" (Terry) Leslie and Dorothy Ann Eldridge, all of St. George, N.B.; five grandsons, Kyle, Kory (Jolene), Keith (Amanda), Bill and Cody; three granddaughters, Wendy (Mike), Christine and Leigha; two great-grandchildren, Abby Kernighan and Grace Leslie; one brother, Clayton (Marjorie) Dick, of St. George, N.B.; one sister, Marion Barry, of St. George, N.B.; one aunt, Dorothy Kesselring, of Calais, Me.; sisters-in-law, Frances Eldridge and Jean Dick; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Millen Eldridge, she was pre-deceased by one brother, Elwood, and by two brothers-in-law, Gordon and Harold.
Rhoda moved to Philadelphia where she studied cosmetology and worked as an assistant with her uncle, Dr. Frank Smith and Marion Dick, osteopath. She came back to Canada and enlisted in the army as a dental assistant, where she continued to work until the war ended, and this is where she met her first husband, Ben Miner. Following this, Rhoda had two daughters, and studied nursing at the Colchester Regional Hospital. After this she began working at the hospital in Blacks Harbour, now know as the Fundy Health Center.
Rhoda’s first husband had passed away and she remarried Millen Eldridge, of Beaver Harbour, N.B., and had two more children. She continued working in Blacks Harbour and lived in Beaver Harbour until 1985 at which time she moved to St. George, where she lived until she passed.
Rhoda was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 40, St. George, and belonged to the L’Etete Church of Christ. Rhoda’s spirit touched many lives and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. She was a kind, gentle and caring person who always accepted people wherever they were in life, always listening and never judging. She took life in stride and never let fear stand in her way of adventure, whether it was sea kayaking or travelling to unknown destinations.
A celebration of Rhoda’s life will be held at the L’Etete Church of Christ, L’Etete, N.B., on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at 10:30 a.m.
Visiting will be held at the church on Friday, Sept. 11, from 3-7 p.m.
In Rhoda’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Spicer, Ronald Malby

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, Ronald Malby Spicer, of St. Stephen, N.B. Born in Berwick, N.S., he is the son of Mary Tidd Spicer and the late Malby Spicer.
In recent years Ron worked with Crown Tanks in St. Stephen. Prior to that he worked in such industries as Ganong Chocolates and True North Salmon.
Surviving in addition to his partner, Mary Lou Robinson, of St. Stephen, N.B., and his mother, Mary Spicer, of Beaver Harbou, N.B., are his sons, Matthew Robinson, of Dorchester, N.B., and Michael Robinson (Kalean Dempsey), of St. Stephen, N.B.; five grandchildren, Jacob, Tristen, Emma, Kyra, and Michael, Jr.; two brothers, Bedford Spicer (Paula) and Robert Spicer (Donna); sister, Sharon Boudreau (Neil), all of Beaver Harbour, N.B.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Resting at Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, N.B., from where the visitation will be held on Thursday from 7-9 p.m., and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 2 p.m., at Beaver Harbour Baptist Church, Beaver Harbour, N.B.
Interment will follow in Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
A reception will follow at the home of Bedford and Paula.
Donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Cook, Donna Elizabeth

As she would have wished, surrounded by the family to whom she gave unconditional love and with the dignity befitting her true matriarchal self, Donna Elizabeth Cook (nee Tatton) passed away at high noon on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B. Donna lived in Bayside, N.B., where she is survived by her husband, Lewis Cook, whom she adored and was completely devoted to for nearly 37 years. Identifying herself first as a mother, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Cathy.
She lovingly raised and guided her four surviving daughters, Karen Richardson (John), Oak Bay, N.B., Bette Caissie (Mike), Minnesota, Malinda Bell (Ronald), St. Andrews, N.B., and Maggie Cook (Ron), Bayside, N.B., from the moment of their births to the moment of her death. Donna is also survived by grandchildren, Michelle, John, Chris, Adam, Andrew, and Tobin; and great-grandchildren, Kendra and Isaiah.
Donna was born in Brockway, N.B., on Nov. 7, 1944. She is predeceased by her parents, Norman Stuart Tatton and Edith Frances Little, as well as special brother-in-law, Wayne McCullough. Growing up in Bethel, N.B., she shared her family home with her 14 surviving siblings: Ruth Ellis (Norman), of St. George, N.B., Joan Lee (Harold), of Maine, Evelyn Tatton, of Pennfield, N.B., Margaret Richard (Camille), of Elmsville, N.B., Audrey McCullough, of St. Andrews, N.B., Ivan Tatton (Carolyn), of Bocabec, N.B., Pearl Scott (Clyde), of Bayside, N.B., Earl Scott (Debbie), of Bethel, N.B., Gerald Scott (Evangeline), of St. Stephen, N.B., Guilford Scott (Ellery), of St. Stephen, N.B., Peter Scott (Daphne), of Bethel, N.B., Willa Jean Foster (Donne), of Chamcook, N.B., Douglas Scott (Jacklyn), of St. Stephen, N.B., and Bonny Firlotte (Danny), of Chamcook, N.B.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to share a time of remembrance Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009 at 2 p.m., at the Oak Bay Rural Cemetery, Oak Bay, N.B. There is a reception to follow at the Bayside Community Hall.
Donna’s wishes were that your kind donations be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice in her memory.

Eldridge, Elvena Mae

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, Elvena Mae (McDowell, Lord) Eldridge, of St. Andrews, N.B.; wife of Carman Eldridge. Born in St. Andrews, N.B., she was the daughter of the late James Ross and Myrtle V. (Stewart) McDowell.
For many years Elvena was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, St. Andrews, N.B., St. Andrews Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and Order of the Eastern Star. For many years Elvena was the owner and operator of the family business, The Variety Store, a long term institution on Water Street, St. Andrews, N.B.
Elvena is survived by her husband, her son, Bill Lord (Cathy), of Winnipeg, Man.; grandsons, Murray Lord, of Winnipeg, Man., Colby Lord, of Gatineau, Que., step-daughter, Linda Dyke (Danny), and grandsons, Michael and Ian, of Dartmouth, N.S.; stepson, Terry Eldridge, and grandsons, Matthew and David, of Moncton, N.B.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Colby Lord; her parents; brother, James McDowell; and sister, Dorothy Charlton.
Resting at All Saints Anglican Church, 75 King Street, St. Andrews, N.B., from where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009 at 2 p.m. Visiting hours were held at the church on Monday, Sept. 14.
Interment in St. Andrews Rural Cemetery, St. Andrews, N.B.

Grant, Ruth Elizabeth

At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., on Sep. 12, 2009, Ruth Elizabeth (Curran) Grant, widow of Leo Grant, of Oak Bay, N.B. Daughter of the late Sedgefield and Ressie Helen (Watson) Curran.
Survived by one son, Robert Hill, St. Stephen, N.B.; one daughter, Patricia Cameron (David), Oak Bay, N.B., grandchildren, Marie Dowling, Bobbie Jo Doyle, Crystal Cameron, all of St. Stephen, N.B., April Cameron, St. Andrews, N.B., Dawn Blake, Lisbon Falls, Me., and Shawn Cameron, Rollingdam, N.B.; great-grandchildren; one brother, John Curran (Ruth), St. Stephen, N.B.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by brother, Gilbert Curran, and great-grandson, Randall Doyle.
Funeral service was held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 at 2 p.m.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, Sept. 13
Interment at the Oak Bay Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Cystic Fibrosis Fund or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Emery, Addison Waldo

Peacefully, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on July 25, 2009, Addison Waldo Emery, loving husband to Mrs. Lyda L. (Corscadden) Emery, of St. George, N.B. Born at Waweig, N.B., on Oct. 11, 1915, he was a son of the late Howard and Mildred (Bartlett) Emery.
A loving husband, brother and friend, in addition to his wife, Lyda, he is survived by a special chosen son, MLA Rick (Debbie) Doucet, of St. George, N.B.; one sister, Carol Anderson, of St. Stephen, N.B.; one half-brother, Austin Emery, of Saint John, N.B.; a brother-in-law, Ray (Shirley) Corscadden, of Maces Bay, N.B., a sister-in-law, Mona McCormick of Saint John, N.B.; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and countless friends.
Addison was predeceased by two sons, David and Danny, and by two brothers, Leonard and Robert.
Prior to his retirement, Addison worked for many years with Trynor Construction and retired with the New Brunswick Department of Transportation as a grader operator.
Addison was a giving and caring man who was very active in his community as he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge No. 12 F&AM; , St. George, N.B., OES Granite Chapter No. 15, as well as a Shriner. He also was a member of the Luxor Shriner Flag Unit of Charlotte County and a life member of the St. George Curling Club. His family and many friends will miss his friendly smile and knowing his kind and gentle heart.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B., from where the service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lorne MacLeod officiating, followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery.
Visiting was held at the funeral home on Sunday and Monday.
A Masonic and OES Tribute Service was held at the funeral home Sunday at 7 p.m.
In Addison's memory, family floral tributes only and donations to the Presbyterian Kirk Building Fund, St. George, The Shriner's Hospital for Sick Children, or to the Charlotte County Transportation Fund would be appreciated by the family.

Reid, Thurston Ronald

Unexpectedly, at his residence at Bocabec, N.B., on Sept. 11, 2009, Thurston Ronald Reid, husband of the late Annabelle (Cooke) Reid. Born at McAdam, N.B., on Aug. 7, 1921, he was a son of the late Frederick and Martha (Groom) Reid.
A loving father, stepfather, grandfather and brother, he is survived by three sons, Fred (Mary) Reid and Arnold Reid (Theresa Oliver), both of St. Stephen, N.B., and Ward Reid, of Bonnyville, Alta.; three daughters, Dawn (Paul) Hume, of Las Vegas, Nev., Joanne (Ed) Reimer, of Black Falls, Alta., and Gail (Leo) Cote, of Bonnyville, Alta.; stepchildren, Gordon (Joyce) James and Robert (Gail) James, both of Ontario, Kenny James, of the United States, Larry (Martha) James, of Kerrs Ridge, N.B., Sylvia (Aldon) Merchant, Lillian Johnson (Donald Mann), of Keswick, N.B., and Cindy (Victor) Hooper, of Kerrs Ridge, N.B., 14 grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, one great-great- granddaughter; one sister, Joyce (Joe) Connelly, of St. Stephen, N.B.; one brother, Charles (Margaret) Reid, also of St. Stephen, N.B., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thurston was a self-employed truck driver for all of his working life. An avid outdoorsman, he loved working in the woods and riding his four wheeler. He enjoyed attending the occasional card party, be it with friends, family or whomever he could find to play. Thurston will be missed not only by his family, but by the friends he has made throughout the years.
By Thurston’s request, there will be no visitation or service.
A private committal will be held at the Bocabec Community Cemetery.
In Thurston’s memory, donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Stewart, Betty Lou

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Betty Lou Stewart, of Fredericton, N.B., at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Monday, Sep. 14, 2009. She was 58. Born at Pleasant Ridge, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Vivian (Noddin) Stewart.
She is survived by her husband Leonard Lewey; children, Crystal Stewart (Stephen Lewey), of Hamtown Corner, N.B., and Leonard Lewey, Jr. (Amber O’Brien), of Fredericton, N.B.; three grandchildren, Brittany, Haley, and Brady; sisters, Emily Wight (Jeffrey), of Boston, Mass., and Janet Mann (Benoit Vienneau), of St. Stephen, N.B.; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Vincent and Harley.
Betty Lou had requested that no visitation or formal funeral service be held.
A private family interment will be held in Rollingdam, N.B.
Memorials to the NB Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Betty Lou is now tending God’s great garden in the sky.

Johnson, Floyd Roderick, Sr.

At his residence, on Friday, July 24, 2009, Floyd Roderick Johnson, Sr.; husband of Marion Frances (Mowatt) Johnson, of Bayside, N.B. Born in Rollingdam, N.B., he is the son of the late Roderick D. and Margaret (Nixon) Johnson.
Floyd was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, St. Andrews, N.B., and Christ Church, Elmsville.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Marion, are his son, Floyd, Jr. (Karen) of Oak Bay, N.B.; three daughters, Anne McDonald (Todd), and Rosemary Johnson (Roy McLaggan), all of Fredericton, N.B., and Elaine Porter (Donald), of Doaktown, N.B.; six grandchildren: Michelle, Amanda, Devon, Michael, Katie and Ryan; two sisters, Carol Gowan, of Waweig, N.B., and Christine Woods (John), of Birney Lake, N.B.; two brothers, David (Marie), of Calais, Me., and Gary (Irene), of St. Stephen, N.B.; one aunt and one uncle, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home; however, friends are welcome to attend the funeral service to be held in the chapel of Humphreys’ Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, N.B., on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 1 p.m.
The interment will follow in Oak Bay Cemetery, Oak Bay, N.B., followed by a reception in the Bayside Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ Church, Elmsville, the Charlotte County Cancer Society or NB Extra-Mural Hospital Found ation – St. Stephen Unit would be appreciated by the family.
