Augustus Pierog
Sackville, N.B.
The death of Augustus Pierog, age 91, of Sackville and formerly of Marconi Towers, Cape Breton, N.S., occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Tuesday, Feb., 22, 2000.
Born in Poland in 1908 he was a son of the Late Marek and Frances (Miezko) Pierog.
Immigrating with his parents to Canada at a very early age, he was a long time resident of Marconi Towers, Cape Breton, N.S., where as a young man he was employed as a golf links caretaker and for 40 years as a stationary engineer with Dominion Coal Co., retiring at the age of 60. He was as well a self-taught motor mechanic.
He is survived by his two sons, Roy (Jeannette), Sackville, with whom he resided for the past six years and Jerry (Marg), Scarborough, Ont., as well as by his daughter, Rita (Daniel) Brent, Havelock North, New Zealand, and by five grandchildren, Christine, Mark, Michael, Kirk and Shane as well as by three great-grandchildren, Shelby, Keith and Chris.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Francine Meulenbeck in 1991, an infant son and two brothers, John and Edward.
The family of the late Augustus Pierog will be receiving friends at a time of tea and fellowship, at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, from 7-9 p.m.
All are invited.
The remains have been forwarded for cremation and a family memorial service will be held in the spring at the Salvation Army Citadel, Glace Bay, Cape Breton, N.S.
Donations may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital or a charity of the donors choice.
Joseph William Kennedy
64, Moncton / Little Lorraine, NS
Joseph William Kennedy, 64, formerly of Little Lorraine, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the George Demont Hospital, Moncton.
He was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Burke) Kennedy.
He is survived by his three stepchildren, Anne Marie (Mrs. Percy Sheppard), Porters Lake, Johine (Marlene), Lloydminster, Sask., Christina (Roland Cormier), Moncton; three sisters, Florence (Mrs. Robert Fiander) and Agnes, both of Louisbourg, Lillian, Braemore Home, Sydney; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving companion, Dorothy MacDonald, Moncton, N.B.
Visitation will take place today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at W.A. Chant Funeral Home, Main Street, Louisbourg.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Stella Maris Church, Main Street, Louisbourg with the Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating.
Interment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Main-a-Dieu, under the direction of W.A. Chant Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
Michaela Burte
5, Ormocto, N.B., Glace Bay, N.S.
Michaela Patricia Bryanna Burte, age 5, of 14 St. John Ave., Oromocto, N.B., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at the IWK Hospital, Halifax, surrounded by her family and friends.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, she was the daughter of Eldon and Florence (MacCuish) Burte.
Both parents are former residents of Glace Bay, Eldon from Shepherd’s Lane, and Florence from Hillside Ave.
Michaela was a student at Assinaboine Elementary School and also a member of St. Luke's Church in Oromocto.
She is survived by a sister Alexis, at home, as well as her paternal grandparents George and Jean Burte, Glace Bay, and maternal grandparents Alex and Shirley MacCuish of Glace Bay.
She is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay (849-4505).
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating.
Cremation to follow.
Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, Wallace Rd., Glace Bay at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michaela’s memory may be made to Kidney Research, Spina Bifida or the Mental Health Association.
Theresa F. MacLeod
75, Moncton, N.B.
Theresa F. MacLeod, 75, of 960 St. George Blvd. and formerly of Tenth Street, Moncton, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late James and Winnifred (Carew) Gill.
Theresa attended the Salvation Army Moncton Citadel Community Church, a member of the Salvation Army Home League and the Moncton Legion Branch No. 6 Seniors Group.
Theresa is survived by daughters, Beverley Harper (Edward), Moncton, Brenda Rosetti, Sydney, Terri Lambe (Gilbert), Brampton, Ont.; sons, Gordon (Fern), Moncton, Brent (Joanne), Trenton, Ont., Allan, Brampton, Ont., Chris (Christine), Rexdale, Ont.; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary MacDonald (Cecil), Sydney and Catherine Carew, Sydney; several nieces and nephews.
Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Archibald (Archie), May 17, 1996, sons, Keith and Ronnie and by a sister, Rita and brother, Thomas.
Resting at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd. (858-1995) with visiting hours Tuesday 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service from the Salvation Army Moncton Citadel Community Church, Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. with Captains Victor and Colleen Cyr officiating.

Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.

John Black
Saint John, N.B.
John H. Black, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, Dec. 6, 1999.
Mr. John Hugh Black of Saint John West was born in Sydney, N.S. on Aug. 26, 1922.
He was the son of the late Mary (Campbell) Black and the late Stephen Black.
Mr. Black was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Airforce.
He was employed with Eastern Bakeries Ltd. until his retirement in 1987.
John was a faithful parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, where he served in several capacities.
An avid bowler and golfer.
He immensely enjoyed his weekly outings at the Westfield Golf and Country Club.
He served on the board of Hestia House, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a life member of the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Mr. Black enjoyed his membership with the “Tonsilaires” of the Lancaster Golden Service Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Shirley are two sons, Shaun Black and his partner Laura, Halifax, Gregory Black and his wife Gen, Ottawa; one daughter, Kelley Polley and her husband Peter, Halifax; one brother, Daniel Black and his wife Louise, Calgary.
“Gramps” is also survived by his precious granddaughter, Sarah.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Cecily and his brother, Roderick.
Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. (634-1701).
Funeral mass of Christian burial will be held at ST. Rose of Lima Church, Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at 10 a.m.
Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
Visiting was at “Fallsview” Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and will be today 2-4, 7-9 p.m.
Donations in memory of Mr. Black to a charity of a donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
Following the interment, a reception will take place at the “Fallsview” Family Reception Center.
