Avery Wentworth Stairs
73, New Brunswick
Avery Wentworth Stairs, 73, retired RCMP, peacefully in the presence of his wife and family, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret, his father, Harold, brother, Dane and sister, Audrey.
He served in several RCMP detachments including Ottawa, Ont., St. Peter’s, N.S., Stewiake, N.S., Windsor, N.S., and retired while serving in New Glasgow, N.S. as staff sergeant. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and RCMP Veteran’s Association.
Avery is lovingly remembered and cherished by his wife, Mary; children, Karen (Paul) Trainor, Sherwood, P.E.I., Stacy (Doug) Svendsen, Regina, Sask., Dan (Colette) Stairs, Ilderton, Ont., Holly (Denis) Cadieux, Gladstone, Man.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Avery is also lovingly remembered by Mary’s children, Grant Witham, Warri, Nigeria and Jennifer Witham (Gert Jan Hagenars), Ottawa, Ont., as well as his mother, Meta Stairs, Fredericton; his sister, Marion MacMillan, Bradenton, Fla. and by his many friends.
Family and friends gathered at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Rd., Fredericton, Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. when a memorial service was held with Rev. Ron Dixon officiating.
Interment in Marion Bridge, N.S. at a later date.

Ellen (Pardy) McCready
53, Moncton, N.B.
Ellen (Pardy) McCready, 53, passed away suddenly in Moncton, N.B. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2000.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Julia (Richard) Pardy.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ron McCready; son, Patrick, British Columbia; one daughter, Rhonda, Moncton; two grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Lillian (Mrs. Albert Bishop), North Sydney, Barbara (Jerrett), Sydney Mines, Josephine (Mrs. Kenneth Jardine), Sydney Mines, Mona, Port Colbourne, Ont.; brothers, Patrick, North Sydney and Ernest, Princeton, Ont.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Theresa and Rhoda and three brothers, Tom, Joe and James.
Interment took place in Moncton.
James M. (Jim) Gillis
83, Moncton, N.B.
James M. (Jim) Gillis, 83, of Pro-Tem Health Services, Mountain Road, and formerly of Alward Ave., Moncton, passed away at his residence on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.
Born in Inverness, N.S., Jim was the son of the late Duncan and Mary (Kennedy) Gillis and attended St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church. Jim was a retired Maritime manager for Clarke Transport Ltd. and was associated with several transportation related organizations. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1310, served as director and kitchen volunteer for the Ray of Hope Kitchen. Past chairman of the Codiac Transit Commission and canvassed for the New Brunswick Chapter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He was active in minor sports programs in the city and was a long-time member of the Moncton North Liberal Association.
Jim will be sadly missed by his son, John (Diane), Moncton; daughter, Anne-Marie Arsenault (Yvon), Moncton; grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Peter, Elaine, Cory, Ryan. Also surviving is sister Marie Power (Law), Sydney; brother, John A. (Marion), New Waterford, and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife Teresa (MacDonald) Gillis (1984), sisters, Julia Stephenson, Anne Burroughs, Catherine Tonary, and a brother Murdock.
Resting at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton. Visitation was Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church today at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Allison Carroll officiating. Reception in the church hall following the service. Interment in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.

Pius William (Willie) Usher
Gardiner Mines, N.S. / New Brunswick
Pius William ‘Willie’ Usher, 48, of New Brunswick and formerly of Gardiner Mines and New Waterford, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in New Brunswick, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the former Lillian Corbett and the late William Usher.
He was a former member of St. James Church, Gardiner Mines. He was formerly employed at Sydney Steel, Devco and Lingan Colliery. Willie drove for Day & Ross and other trucking companies throughout New Brunswick and was currently working for S & M Trucking out of Sydney.
He will be sadly missed by his mother; his wife, the former Selina Dewapenaere; daughters, Kelly (Jamie) Warford, Elmsdale, N.S., Kimberly (Sheldon) Howett, Summerside, P.E.I. and Tanya (Scott) Young, Ripple, N.B.; son, Bernard, at home; paternal grandfather, Joe Usher, Carefield Manor, Sydney; brothers, Joseph (Arlene), River Ryan, Michael (Joanne) and Thomas ‘Buddie’ (Paulette), both of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Tiffany and Haley Warford, Elmsdale and Ryan and Amanda Young, Ripple, N.B., and one future grandchild of Kimberly and Sheldon Howett; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by an infant brother, John, maternal grandparents, Pius and Elizabeth Corbett and paternal grandmother, Margaret Usher.
Visitation for the late Mr. Usher will be held Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, Gardiner Mines with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Willie’s memory to Children’s Wish Foundation are suggested as an expression of sympathy.
Rosslynn (Lynn) Andrews
48, Sackville, N.B.
The death of Rosslynn (Lynn) Andrews, age 48, of Sackville, occurred following a lengthy illness on Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sydney, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Ross and Marjorie (Jordan) Andrews.
A 30-year employee with the Royal Bank of Canada, she was an animal lover and horse owner. She was a member of the Baie Verte Pony Club and various other organizations.
Lynn will be sadly missed by two brothers, Bill (Kathy) Andrews, Sackville, N.B., and Todd Andrews, Banff, Alta.; a nephew, Ross and a niece, Karla; two aunts, Evelyn Spencer and Roberta Jordan, both of Sydney, N.S. and an uncle, Sydney (Jean) Jordan, Ontario.
There will be no visitation, Lynn’s remains have been forwarded for cremation.
A memorial service will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 2 p.m., Rev. Dr. Jamie Gripton officiating. Burial in the Sackville Cemetery at a later date.
Friends are invited to the memorial service followed by a time of fellowship in the reception room of the Jones Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Agnes (Dollie) Pettipas
1933-2000
Agnes (Dollie) Pettipas, of Riverview, N.B., passed away at her residence on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 66 years.
Born in L’Ardoise, Richmond County, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Patrick John and Eva May (Martell) Bonin.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Parish, Riverview, N.B.
Dollie will be sadly missed by her husband of 45 years, Gerard; her daughter, Phyllis (Perry Hogan) Pettipas-Pirt, Riverview; sons, Roger, Dartmouth and Paul (Becky), Charlottetown, P.E.I.; a loving granddaughter, Dayna Pirt, Riverview; sisters, Alice Hyrtle, Mount Uniacke, N.S., Della Cameron and Doreen Murphy, Sydney, N.S. and Claire Bonin, Riverview; as well as brothers, Ronald, St. Ann’s, N.S., Ivan, Baddeck, N.S., Wallace, Toronto, Ont., and half-brother, Leonard, Ontario.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Ellen and a sister in infancy, brothers, Alonzo and Daniel, half-brothers, Wilfred and Lawrence and a half-sister in infancy.
Rested at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd., Monday, Sept. 18, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 5 Fatima Dr., Riverview, today (Tuesday) at 11 a.m. with Fr. Herbert Grattan officiating. Interment will be in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
In Dollie’s memory donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Friends of Moncton Hospital, the George L. Dumont Hospital to the Memorial of the Donors Choice, would be appreciated by the family.
