Roy Joseph WHITAKER
1929-2009

The passing of Roy Whitaker occurred on Sunday April 19, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was 79. He was the son of the late George and Mary Whitaker. His home was in the Village of Gagetown, NB.
He is survived by one son; Eric Whitaker (Sylvia) of Tracy; three daughters; Debra Faircloth (Peter) of Saint John, Darlene McFawn (Fred) of Maugerville, JoAnn Mann (Michael) of Rothesay; seven grand children; three great grand children; one brother Allen; three sisters, Lucy, Mabel, and Gertie; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Roy’s request there will be no visitation or service.
The family would like to extend an extra special note of thanks to the owner and staff of Riverview Comfort Home in Gagetown, Dr. Greg Thompson and all of Roy’s Nurses of 4SE.
Donations in Roy’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Bishop’s Funeral Home (458-1885) has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Darren Knockwood
1968-2009

At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton on Thursday April 30th, 2009, Darren Knockwood passed away at the age of 40. Born in Fredericton, he was the son of Jean Marie Brooks Paul and the late Leslie Paul.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and attended the Victory Tabernacle. Darren was a member of the Carpenter’s Union.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Knockwood of Fredericton; 2 sons, Mark and Michael of Fredericton; 2 daughters Ashley Jadis (Garett) of P.E.I and Melissa of Fredericton; 2 grandsons, Ethan and Markus Peter-Paul of P.E.I; 2 brothers, Joshua (Sarah) and Joe of Fredericton; also by one godchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Darren was predeceased by one sister, Cheryl Elizabeth Marie Brooks Knockwood.
Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 7-9 PM and Saturday May 2, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Sunset Church, Fredericton, on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Weldon Mutch officiating. Interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date. A reception will be held at the St. Mary’s Cultural Centre immediately following the service.
The pallbearers are Joshua Paul, Jason Brooks, Alison Brooks, Andrew Paul, Richard Brooks and Harold Paul; the honorary pallbearers are Leonard Brooks and John Brooks. For those wishing to make donations, they may be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Mary Elizabeth Sacobie
1952-2009

The passing of Mary Elizabeth Sacobie occurred at York Manor Nursing Home on Sunday, May 10, 2009. She was 56. Born September 4, 1952 in Oromocto, she was the daughter of Vincent Sacobie and the late Grace (Sabattis) Sacobie.
Mary is survived by her father Vincent of Gagetown; a daughter Nancy Clements of Alberta; two grandchildren Kira and Kyle; three sisters, Bev Sacobie, Dorothy Sacobie; Christina Sacobie and three brothers Andy, Carl and Paul Sacobie. Predeceased by her mother Grace and sisters Romona Richardson, Irene Jamieson, Judy Mossop and Hazel Haneveld.
Visitation for Mary will be held at the home of her sister Bev Sacobie, 12 Wel-a-mook-took St., Oromocto First Nation, on Wednesday and Thursday. The Funeral Mass will be held from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Oromocto on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ken Weir as celebrant. Interment in the adjoining Church Cemetery.

James Michael “Jim” Boyd
1955-2009

The passing of Jim Boyd of Island View occurred at Fredericton, NB on Saturday, May 9th, 2009. He was 53. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was a son of Ronald and Betty (Grasse) Boyd. Jim was employed with the City of Fredericton for 17 years. He enjoyed golfing, playing his guitar, spending time on the computer, but most of all Jim enjoyed spending time with his children.
He is survived by his parents; partner Melissa MacKenzie; children Arika Cyr (Denis), Rebekah Boyd (Kent Fraser), Olivia Boyd and Dylan Boyd; sisters Brenda Boyd (Pete McSorley), Kathy Boyd (Don Corey); brother Gary Boyd (Paulette); nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Rd. on Monday May 11, 2009 from 6-9pm. Private family service to be held.
In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation NB.

Marie Marjorie Downey
1926-2009

The passing of Marie M. Downey of Hanwell, NB occurred at the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, May 10th, 2009. She was 82. Born at Oak Mountain, Debec, NB, NB, she was a daughter of the late David and Annie (Horton) MacPherson and wife of the late Ephram John Downey. Marie was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church. She loved doing puzzles and enjoyed reading.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her daughters Barbara Ketch (Aubrey) of Kelowna BC, Nadine Anderson (Lloyd of Hanwell, NB and Diana Sheaves of Woodstock, NB; son Dale (Diana) of Salt Spring, BC; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great great grandchild. Predeceased by her daughters Theresa and Jocelyn, and sister Connie Hoyt.
At Marie’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation will be held. Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Rd. have been entrusted with arrangements. No flowers, memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation NB.

Stanley “Stan” James Patterson
1953-2009

The family of Stanley James Patterson are saddened to announce that Stan lost his battle with lymphoma on Thursday May 21st, 2009, at the age of 56. Born in Woodstock, NB, he was as son of the late Murray and Geraldine (Dore) Patterson Sr. Stan retired in October 2007 after 30 years of service with the City of Fredericton “Roads and Streets Division”.
In the early years Stan’s avid interest was playing fastball. He quickly became known as one of the premier catchers and hitters, playing for teams such as General Dairies, E.E. McCoy, Acadia Marble and the Air Force Club. He also played hockey, loved to fish, hunt and spend time at his camp on the Dungarvan with his pals.
Stan is survived by his wife of 38 years Debbie (Pond) Patterson; son Troy (Jeanine) of LaRonge, Sask.; grandsons Hunter and Colter; daughter Tracy (Mike O’Brien) of Burlington, Vermont; brothers Ray, Zenus (Carol), Gary (Maryanne), Murray (Lorraine), Terry (Mary), Shawn (Roxanne); sisters Diana (Reg) Goodine and Sadie Beech; in-laws Carm (Connie) Pond, Doug Cavanaugh, Sylvia Pond, Joanne Pond, and Mary Pond; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Mavis Wood and her husband Floyd; sister in law Ena Patterson; in-laws Goldie, Duane, Dale, and Dalton “Pudge” his wife Mary Pond and Maureen Cavanaugh; mother and father in law Maurice and Allie Pond. Respecting Stan’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service, with cremation to be held. Please no flowers, for those who wish memorials may be made in Stan’s memory to the DECRH Palliative Care Unit.
Stan had many good friends and would want everyone of you to remember all the times you shared in the fun and laughter. A celebration of Stan’s life will be announced at a later date. Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Rd. have been entrusted with arrangements.

S. Arthur "Art" Rickard
1946-2009

At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton on Wednesday May 20th, 2009, Sydney Arthur “Art” Rickard passed away at the age of 63. Born in Fredericton on May 2, 1946, he was the only child of Phyllis M. (Hachey) Rickard and the late Earl A. Rickard.
Art was Wesleyan by faith. A Security Officer and Chauffeur with the Province of New Brunswick, he served with a number of N.B. Lieutenant-Governors including Hon. George F. G. Stanley, Hon. Gilbert Finn, Hon. Margaret N. McCain and Hon. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell.
An outdoors enthusiast, he enjoyed gardening, camping, hunting and especially four-wheeling.
A devoted and loving son, father and grandfather, Art is survived by his mother, Phyllis of Maugerville; a son Brent and his wife Shelly of Noonan; a daughter Shelley Curtis and her husband Currie of Gray Rapids and was Grampie to four very special grandchildren Brett Curtis, Sydney Rickard, Bailey Curtis and Michael Rickard; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. His father Earl predeceased him in 1989.
Visitation will be held from Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Friday from 7-9 PM and on Saturday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 2:00 PM from Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church, 55 Corbett Ave., Fredericton. Rev. John Symonds will officiate. Interment in the Sunny Bank Cemetery immediately following the service.
Pallbearers will be Terry Blanchard, Dave Gould, Dave Hachey, Ernie Hachey, John hachey, Joe Byrne, Bill Stewart and Gary Tobias.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association (NB).
