James Kane
Mr. James Kane of 80 Howard St, Miramichi who passed away at his residence on Sunday May 25th at the age of 81. He was born in Chatham, NB., the son of the late Andrew & Alice (King) Kane. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Rigley-Traer) Kane; children, Jimmy (Joan) Kane, Margie (David) Flett, Mark (Clara) Kane all of the Miramichi, Dorothy Breen, Joanne Kane both of Edmonton Alberta, Donna Kane of Courtenay, B.C., Beth (Karl) Broad of Fredericton, NB, Kevin (Jane) Kane of Rothesay, NB.; stepchildren, Bob (Shelda) Traer of Ottawa, Ont, Gary (Anna) Traer of Toronto, Ont, Rick (Francine) Traer of Chelsea, Quebec, Joy (Chris) Dooley of Burlington, Ont, Janet (Dale) Dickson of Courtice, Ont; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; sister, Agnes (Claude) Dufour; and brother, Frank (Carole) Kane. He is predeceased by his first wife, Jean Rogers; infant son, Joseph; brothers, Pelham and Reginald; and sister, Josie Shanahan. Mr. James Kane is resting at Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi on Wednesday from 7 to 9 and on Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11am at St Michael's Basilica with Fr. John Fraser officiating. SAVAGE
The death of Mr. Byron William Savage husband of Marie (Kenny) Savage of Lower Newcastle, NB, occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 95. Born in Lower Newcastle, NB, he was the son of the late James and Alice (Mahoney) Savage. Byron was a retired millwright foreman, he was a WWII veteran with the 24th Field Ambulance, R.C.A.S.C. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 3 and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Hill Assembly. Besides his wife: Marie, Byron is survived by: two daughters: Marina Savoy (Graham) of Halifax, NS; Sandra Savage (Paul Graham) of Truro, NS; three sons: Kenneth (Betty Lou) of Fredericton, NB; Colie (Phyllis) of Miramichi, NB; Terry (Mary) of Miramichi, NB; four sisters: Marion Arsenault of Miramichi, NB; Kay Tozer (Donald) of Bathurst, NB; Ruby Johnston of Bartibog, NB; Lill Hill of Ontario; one brother: Robert of Lower Newcastle, NB; grandchildren: Shaun, Peter and Jason Savoy, Nicholas and Cameron Graham, Kelly Savage, Jennifer Walsh, Chris Savage, Tara Jardine and Jeff Savage; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Byron is predeceased by: one infant daughter: Sandra Lee; one sister: Edna McIntyre and five brothers: Joseph, Percey, William, Laurence and Donald. The family received visitors at Bell's Funeral Home on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from St. Peter and St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Bartibog, NB, Monday at 11 AM with Father Allison Mahoney officiating. The Organist Joanne Russell was assisted by the mixed choirs. Readers were: Grandsons: Jason and Peter Savoy; Prayers of the Faithfull by son: Ken Savage and the Eulogy was given by grandson Jeff Savage. Active pallbearers were: Glen Savage, Edward McIntyre, Fred Johnston, Bobby Savage, Ricky Arsenault and Kimberly Savage. Honorary pallbearers were: David Savage, Bernie Savage, Allard McCarthy, Jimmy MacLaughlin, Joe Innis, Allan McKenzie, Tom Kenny, Maria Schofield, Rhonda Savage, V.J. Mr. Kenneth Firth Carter, husband of Lorna (Sullivan) Carter of Villa Maria Nursing Home who passed away early Friday morning at his late residence, at the age of 71. Born in Kouchibouguac NB, he was the son of the late Firth and Edith (Randall) Carter. He was retired from the Dept of Transportation. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church, Kouchibouquac NB. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Besides his wife Lorna, he is survived by one daughter; Gloria LeBlanc of Kouchibouguac NB; two sons; Kevin (Phyllis) of Kouchibouguac NB; Ross (Betty Jean) of Kouchibouguac NB; five sisters; Marie Colpitts of Kouchibouguac NB; Barbara Tweedie (James) of Moncton; Alice Peterson of Shelburne NS; Noreen Gardener (Joe) of Kouchibouguac NB; Edna Flanaghan (Lloyd) of Beersville NB; three brothers; Winston of Kouchibouguac NB; Charles (Thelma) of Kouchibouguac NB; Edward (Joan) of Napan NB; eight grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one sister; Marion Smith; two granddaughters; Tamar Faith Carter and Emily Jean Carter; one son in law; Francis LeBlanc . Mr. Kenneth Firth Carter rested at Kouchibouguac Pentecostal Church with visitation on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The Funeral Service was held Monday, February 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. from the church, with Pastor Wayne Munn and Rev Lester Mitchell officiating. Opening of Service and Reading of Obituary was by Bro Wayne Munn-(present Pastor). Remarks and Prayer was by Rev. Donald Arbeau (Brother-in-law). Two songs "Sunset" and "Suppertime" were by Edward Carter (Brother) and Janice Munn (Niece). A eulogy was read by Kent Carter (Grandson). Song "Praise you in this storm" was by grandchildren Kent and Karleena Carter. A poem was read by grandson Marcus LeBlanc. Memories written by Grant Carter were read by Bro. Munn. Pianist Rev. Brent Carter led the congregation in "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms", "Into My Chamber", "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Wait Till You See Me". The message was by Rev. Lester Mitchell (friend and former pastor) Burial will be in the church cemetery later in the spring. Active Pallbearers were: Elroy Sullivan, Eugene Sullivan, Randy Carter, Mark Arbeau, Gaius Arbeau and Marcus LeBlanc. Anthony W. "Tony" Theriault
Theriault, Anthony W. 'Tony' 1946 - 2009- It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tony on Sunday, January 25, 2009, just one day prior to his 63rd birthday. Tony lost his brave and valiant fight against pancreatic cancer and his courage and positive outlook throughout his battle is an inspiration to us all. The beloved husband, love of his life, and best friend Carol. Tower of strength and devoted Dad to daughter Tammy (Bill) Cassaday and son Rob Theriault. Will be sadly missed by the mother of his children Louise Theriault. Special step-father to Robert and David Nicholson. Cherished Papa to Brandon, Jordan, Taylor, Colton, and Logan. Leaving behind his brothers Don (Lynn) of Windsor, ON, Robert (Albertine), Ronnie (Rita), and Norman (Maria) of Miramichi. Special son-in-law to Reg and Teresa Brown. Brother-in-law to Mark (Sue) Brown and Gary Brown. Will be be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Anthony and Anita and brother Leonard. Tony was a proud and dedicated member of the Sheet Metal Workers' local 537 for 43 years. Working right up to the time of his surgery April 2008. A funeral service was held on January 28th at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, in Hamilton, ON. Cremation to follow. Donations may be made in Tony's memory to the Juravinski Cancer Research Centre. Always in our hearts never to be forgotten.
Rita Savoie Robichaud Settlement
Surrounded by her two daughters after a courageous battle with cancer at the Miramichi Regional Hospital passed away on February 3, 2009 at the age of 72, Mrs Rita Savoie from Robichaud Settlement. Beloved wife of Cyrille J. Savoie. She was the daughter of the late Ludger E. Robichaud and the late Martha Rousselle. She is survived by her two daughters: Annette of Campbellton, Jeannette of Yellowknife, NWT; her son, Marc of St-John; two sisters: Imelda (Philias J. Savoie) of Néguac, Lauza (Gordon Watson) of Windsor, Qc; one brother, Ludger (Hine Kamerau) of Campbell River, BC; her uncle, Bernard Rousselle (Geneviève Holmes) of Rivière du Portage and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, neices, cousins. Mrs Savoie was a teacher for 29 years, she was also an active volunteer in many organizations including 'Histoire de Chez Nous' historical society, an active participant in 'La Chorale St-Bernard' of Neguac and the Neguac Golden Age Club of Neguac. The funeral service has been held on Thursday February 5, 2009. In memory of Mrs Savoie donation to the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. WILLISTON
Mrs. Mary Esther Williston, widow of Leonard Williston of 271 Campbell Street, Miramichi, passed away Sunday December 14, 2008, at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 97. Born in Chatham NB, she was the daughter of the late James & Margaret (Lynch) Robins. She was a homemaker and a member of St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, also a former member of CWL. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by one daughter Margaret Williston of Miramichi; one son Bill Williston of Miramichi; three grandchildren; Wendy, Jaime and Cail Williston; nieces and nephews. At the request of the family there was no visitation at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. from St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Tom Fowler officiating. Organist Mary Butler led the church choir in "Here I Am Lord", "Psalm 23", "You Are Near", "Songs of the Angels" and "On Eagles Wings". Readings were by Trudy Walsh. John Mitchell
1925-2008
Mr. John Mitchell of Miramichi, passed away on December 12, 2008, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 83. John was the son of the late Leo and Maisey (Fairah) Mitchell. He worked as an entrepreneur and attended St Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by one sister, Marjorie Linkletter (Gordon) of Miramichi; two brothers, Vincent (Selma) of Miramichi, and Michael (Carol) of Miramichi; one brother-in-law, Lester MacCullum of Miramichi; and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by one sister, Victoria, and one brother, David. A memorial service was held on Monday, December 15, at 2pm from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel with Father Tom Fowler officiating. Organist Mary Butler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns "Lord let us see your kindness" and "Songs of the Angel". Readers were niece, Anne Woulds, and nephew, Kenneth Mitchell. Emile Joseph Goguen
The death of Mr. Emile Joseph Goguen of Miramichi, NB, occurred on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 73. Born in Chatham Head, NB, he was the son of the late Edmund and Henrietta (Richard) Goguen. Emile attended the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church and was retired from Atlantic Wholesalers. He was involved in the Chatham Head Oldtimers Association, Chatham Head Tigers Baseball and caretaker of the Father Smith Manor in Chatham Head. He was also a member of the NB Baseball Hall of Fame. Emile is survived by; two daughters, Tammy Boudreau (Pat) of Calgary, AB, Brenda Landry (Reg) of Miramichi, NB; two sons, Tony (Joan), Emile (Jr.) (Shawna) all of Miramichi, NB; one sister, Loretta of Chatham Head, NB; six brothers, Alyre, Lucien (Bertha), Fidele all of Chatham Head, NB, Roy (Judy) of Nelson Miramichi, NB, Manuel of Chatham Head, NB, Everett (Lillian) of Nelson Miramichi, NB; six grandchildren, Ryan, Nolan, Molly and Madison Goguen, Billy and Brittany Boudreau and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Emile is predeceased by; two sisters, Mary and Alma; two brothers, Leo and Anthony. 1941-2008
Miramichi - Wilburn Elmer Arthur Dickson, husband of Nora Dickson, of the South Napan Road, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Thursday morning, December 4, 2008, at the age of 67. Born in Center Napan, on January 31, 1941, he was the son of the late Earl J. and Gertrude (MacDonald) Dickson. He was a retired self employed truck driver; a valued member of Carmel United Church, Napan; a dedicated member of the church choir; a member of the Board of Stewarts of Carmel United Church as well as a member of Session; a church Elder; a former director of the Napan Agricultural Show. He is survived by his wife, the former Nora Chapman; three sons, James (Jimmy) Dickson (Tasha), of Miramichi, Wade Dickson, at home, Brent Dickson, of Kitchener, Ont.; two sisters, Lylla Flynn (Leo), of St. Margaret's and Marion Dickson, of Miramichi; seven brothers, Joseph Dickson (Gertie), Benson Dickson (Mary), Erwin Dickson (Myrtle), Keith Dickson (Linda), Earle Dickson Jr. (Jessie), Blaine Dickson (June), Bliss Dickson (Myrna), all of Napan; five grandchildren, David, Jessie, Ronnie, Cody, James; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Jessie Robichaud. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Friday only, from 1 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Carmel United Church, Napan, on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Charlene Maguire. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery.
