Rand Smith
1939-2012
Rand Campbell Smith, 72. It is with sad hearts the family of Rand Smith announce his passing at the Moncton Hospital on June 21, 2012, following a brief illness.
Born in Salisbury, September 5, 1939, he was the son of the late Earle and Evelyn (Campbell) Smith. Rand was a retired Air Traffic Controller having worked in Gander, Halifax and the Moncton area control centre over his 28 year career. He then did retraining for two years and was reassigned to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and then enjoyed an active retirement at his camp in the woods of Albert Co. and his summer spot on Grand Lake with his family and friends. He was a former member and President at the Salisbury Lions Club and served on Salisbury Village Council for nine years.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn (Crossman); two daughters Shelley Jones (Edward) and Christine Smith, of Salisbury and one son Scott (Kelly) of Lower Coverdale. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Keaton, Ryan and Chelsea Jones; Brody Smith; Nicholas, Taylor and Jared Smith and by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Saturday 6-9 p.m. and from where the funeral will be held in the chapel, Sunday June 24 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Dan Compton officiating. Interment at Pine Hill Cemetery, Salisbury.
As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
Jennie Keith
1930-2012
Jennie Margaret Keith, 81, of Fawcett's Rest Home and formerly of Havelock, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Moncton Hospital.
Born in Havelock, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Etta (Branscombe) Killam. Jennie was the postmistress for the Havelock Post Office until retirement and a member of the Havelock Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting and scrapbooking, but her greatest enjoyment was her grandchildren.
She is survived and sadly missed by her children Leon (Debby) of Moncton, Beth Murray (Burton) of Petitcodiac and Greg (Brenda) of Smith's Creek; grandchildren Nick, Jill, Amanda, Adam, Alicia, Matt and Melissa; great grandchildren Zachary and Olivia, Tanner and Lynkin, Emma and Ayden; sister Carolyn Killam of Sussex; brother Harold Killam (Letha) of Truro and several nieces and nephews. Jennie is predeceased by her husband Francis, sisters Edna Plume and Willa O'Neill.
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) visiting will be Thursday, August 30 from 6-9 p.m. and the funeral will be held Friday, August 31 at 11 a.m. from the chapel. Interment to follow at Greenhill Cemetery, Havelock.

Marjorie DeForest
1923-2011
DeForest, Marjorie Eileen, 88, of Salisbury passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 9, 2011.
Born in Sussex she was a daughter of the late Harry and Ethel (Adair) Seely. Marjorie was a graduate of Sussex High School and following her marriage in 1944 she became a full time homemaker with the exception of her time at Colpitts-Waddy store in Salisbury. She attended Saint John's Anglican Church and was a former Sunday School Teacher and J.A. Youth Leader and until recently was an active member of the ACW, having held several offices. Marjorie was a former volunteer with the St. John Ambulance, a volunteer canvasser with a number of charities. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and created lovely sweaters, baby sets and lace tablecloths for her family. She loved to play bingo and was an avid reader.
Survived and sadly missed by her children Clarence (Snookie) of Boundary Creek, Sharon Hopper (Robert) of Salisbury, Cindy Cole of Colpitts Settlement; cherished grandchildren Kirk DeForest (Donna), Fredericton Jct., Stacy Dryden, Berry Mills, Jeffery Hopper (Jennifer), Hamden Conn., Tanisha Thompson (Danny), Utopia, Jody Cole (Jody Lynn), Riverview, Jason Cole (Charline), Moncton; great grandchildren Nicholas, Dylan, Amy, Haley, Jordan, Elias, Alex and Sam and step grandchildren Madison, Ashley and Landon. Survived also by a brother Douglas Seely (Yvette) of Fredericton, a sister Doreen Dunfield (Havie) of Sussex and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband of 60 years Clarence (Mutt), an infant daughter Sheila, brothers Lloyd and Spencer Seely and a sister Dorothy Fanjoy, half brother Fred Seely and half sister Audrey Loughery.
Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and from where the funeral will be Monday December 12 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dick Black officiating. Interment at Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Sussex Corner.

Vaughan Bannister
1935-2012
Vaughan Everett Bannister, 76, of Salisbury passed away at his residence Wednesday, February 29, 2012.
Born in Killams Mills, he was a son of the late Leonard and Maizie (Berry) Bannister. Vaughan was a retired labourer from Fawcett's Lumber Company.
He is survived and missed by his sisters Alena M. Carter and Lila Gallant both of Salisbury and Marguerite Middleton (Ron) of Mapleton and several nieces and nephews. Vaughan is predeceased by sister Marion Douthwright and brother Donald.
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Friday, March 2 from 12 noon until time of funeral at 1 pm with Rev. Dan Compton officiating. Interment at Parkindale Cemetery at a later date.

Vernon Hill
1928-2012
Vernon Morris Hill, 84, of Moncton passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Moncton Hospital.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late A. Loy and Ethel (Lutes) Hill. Vernon was a second generation owner-operator of the former Hills Radiator Repair where he faithfully served his customers for many years. He had a lifelong passion for his horses and he enjoyed gardening and being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Doris (Jones); children Douglas (Charlotte) of Lakeville, John (Debbie) of Moncton, Marianne Hill of Riverview and Catherine McLatchy (Dallas) of Lakeville; cherished grandchildren Carla, Karrie, Eddie, Anita, Jessica, Dallas, Sarah, Mike, Scott and Tyler; great grandchildren Cohen and Finlay; sister Nancy Vail (Winslow) of Harrisville; daughter in law Linda Hill of Lakeville and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by son Geoffrey, grandson Christopher Hill and sister Norma Spriel.

Dorothy Cowan
Dorothy Lena Cowan, 79, of Salisbury West and formerly of Fredericton, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Sutton, Quebec, she was a daughter of the late John and Bessie (Willey) Jones. She was a member of the Salisbury Baptist Church. Dorothy loved the Lord with all her heart. Whether wrapped against the rain in a camp setting or at a podium she was at ease when she opened her beloved Bible. Together with her husband, they served pastorates throughout NB and NS. She loved to teach Preschoolers right up to "Keen Seniors" and also enjoyed teaching at the "United Commercial Travellers Training School" in Campbellton. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, teddy bear picnics and nanaimo squares. Homemade cards, handwritten letters, warm hugs and cookies fresh from the oven were "her style". Family and friends were dearly treasured. She enriched our lives and we miss her deeply already.
Dorothy is survived and missed by her husband of 57 years Rev. James Cowan; children Paul (Donna) of New Minas, NS, Elizabeth Power (Daniel) of Salisbury West, Barbara Parker (Paul) of Stoney Creek and David (Tara) of Rothesay; grandchildren Jonathan Power (Alison), Matthew Power (Emily), Nathan Cowan (Becky), Joshua Cowan (Kristi), Jeffrey Cowan, Justin Cowan and Stephanie O'Connor (Daniel); great grandchildren Hannah and Kaitlyn Cowan, Rebekah and Andrew Power, Annabel and Juliana Power and Nathaniel, Abigail and Hannah O'Connor; sisters Barbara Hartling (Richard) of Ohio, USA and Phyllis Peterson (Vernon) of St. Thomas, ON; brothers John Jones (Maxine) and Robert Jones (Inez) both of Carleton County and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive visitors at Salisbury Baptist Church Saturday, June 2 from 1 pm until time of service at 2 pm with Rev. Robert Nickerson officiating. Interment at Pine Hill Cemetery, Salisbury.
