BUTT, Ethel - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on Friday, July 27, 2001, Ethel Butt (nee Brien) formerly of Carbonear, aged 73 years. Predeceased by her husband Arthur on December 12, 1999 and most recently by her brother Tom Brien on July 26, 2001. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories son Roger (Patricia) and daughter Cynthia McNeil; beloved grandchildren Melissa and Katelyn Butt, and Matthew and Sean McNeil. Also leaving to mourn her brother Lloyd Brien, sisters Florence Reynolds (William) and Doris Taylor (William); sisters-in-law Mary Brien, Doreen Brien and Jean Pardy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to take place on Monday, July 30, 2001 at 11 a.m. from Wesley United Church with interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant cemetery . Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Newfoundland Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

BUTT, DE FARCY Maurice Andre Panichelly - Died in Santa Rosa, California, June 25, 2001, age 78 years. He is survived by his wife Hazel of 48 years; four children and nine grandsons. Maury was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1923 as Maurice Andre Panichelly. His mother was born in Newfoundland as Marion Harris (other family names were Foote and Chapin). Maury lived in St. John`s for a time after his father died, with his mother and her family about 1925 on. They returned to Chicago, Illinois. Maury graduated from New Trier High School in Wilmette, Illinois in 1941 as Maurice Andre Panichelly. The name was changed to de Farcy later (his father`s family name). Maury served with the British Special Forces Unit in WW II. He was a classical music radio announcer. He loved reading, photography and target shooting. He had many other hobbies. He is greatly missed. His family would appreciate any contact with his mother`s family. 730 Placer Court, Santa Rosa, California 95401-5706.

DILLON, Patrick Joseph Sr. - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, July 27, 2001. Patrick Joseph Dillon Sr., long time member of the Knights of Columbus, Terra Nova Council #1452, age 69 years. Predeceased by mother and father, Mary and Patrick; brothers-in-law Philip Constantine, John Constantine, Paul McDonald and Frank Lindsay. Left with fond and loving memories, his wife Helen (nee Constantine); two daughters, Florence Budden (Brian), Regina Hussey (Dave), son Patrick (Paula); brother Reg (Judy), sisters, Mary Dillon, Helen Colford (Jim), Long Island, New York; sisters-in-law, Dorothy O`Brien (Michael), Florence Constantine, New York City, New York; Mary McDonald, Gertrude Lindsay, Shirley Constantine, Martha Constantine; also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thank-you to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic, Emergency Dept. H.S.C., 4NA H.S.C., and Dr. Patrick O`Shea. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. KING, Flossie May - Passed peacefully away at The Agnes Pratt Home on Sunday, April 8, 2001, Flossie May King, formerly of Bauline and Torbay, in her 90th year. Predeceased by her husband Ambrose, November 1993 and daughter Florrie M. Penney, November 2000. Leaving to mourn with treasured memories, one daughter Shirley (Herb) LeGrow, Mount Pearl; three sons: Charlie, St. John`s, Clayton (Evelyn), Pouch Cove, Gerald (Cynthia), Bauline; son-in-law Clayton Penney, Manuels. Also leaving to mourn twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one brother Robert J. King, Melrose, Mass., U.S.A.; sister-in-law and special friend Violet King, Pouch Cove; also special friend Ruth King, St. John`s; along with a wide circle of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the staff and caregivers at the Agnes Pratt Home, especially Nurse Nadine Noel for her constant caring and tenderness during Mom`s final hours. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, 7-10 p.m. on Monday; 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 12 Noon on Wednesday. Sr., Carbonear; four brothers: Brian, St. John`s, Tom (Jeanne), Frederickton, NB, Dan (Brenda), Carbonear and John (Sheila), Harbour Grace; one sister Eileen (Dunphy) Blackmore, St. John`s; six nieces; as well as a large number of other relatives and friends. DeLONG, John Gilmore (Gil) - RCAF Captain (Retired), passed away in his sleep on September 5, 1999, aged 74 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Daisy; their four sons: Campbell (Irene), David (Rhonda), Ian (Patty) and Scott (Kim); sister Muriel and brother Maurice. Gil and Daisy were the grandparents of eight: Andrea, Christine, Paige, Allison, Anthony, Kiley, Michael and Michaela. Gil proudly served his country in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1945 to 1971. He was especially proud of his contributions to the Search and Rescue wing of the Armed Forces. Gil will be missed. He made an impression on us all. A Service of Remembrance was held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, B.C. on Thursday, September 9, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Kerry McIntrye officiating. GIBBONS, George M. - passed away suddenly at his residence at St. John`s on Thursday, July 26, 2001, George Matthew Gibbons, aged 58 years, originally of St. Mary`s. George worked as a pharmacist with the General Hospital for over 30 years. George is predeceased by his father George, mother Josephine and father-in-law Michael Tobin. Leaving to mourn Alice (nee Tobin), devoted mother of his four loving sons: Gerard (Jackie), Stephen, Michael and Glen; three brothers: Seumas (Marjorie) of Corner Brook, Don (Jean) of St. Mary`s and John (Bernadette) of St. Mary`s; mother-in-law Irene Tobin of St. Vincent`s and a large circle of relatives and friends especially Jim Murray, John Fagan and Ken Brace. FORSEY, Harvey - Native of Grand Bank, Newfoundland, age 70, Passed peacefully away in the early hours of Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Uxbridge, Ontario, after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his father and mother, John and Eliza Forsey (Bungay). Leaving to mourn his three children: Glen, Ruth (Geoff Gibson) and Lisa (Tyrill Allin); his four grandchildren: Daniel and Amanda Finney, Courtney Gibson and Skyler Allin; his two sisters: Edith (White) and Hannah (Gerry Leahy); and a wide circle of other family and friends. Funeral services to be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at Low and Low Funeral Parlour Chapel, 23 Main Street, Uxbridge, Ontario. He was born on Pinchard`s Island, Bonavista Bay on February 16, 1916. Seventh son of the late James and Emily Gill. Predeceased by his six brothers and one sister. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 60 years, Rebecca (nee Boland); four daughters, Annie Dale (Wilson), Daphne Gill, Sharon Blandford (Glenn) and Jody Davis (Troy); eight grandchildren, Clarke, Dana (Chris Holden), Nicholas, Christian, Sara, Garrett, Taylor and Jesse; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Mackenzie and Emma; sisters-in-law, Beryl Gill, Celie Gill, Myrtle Gill, Annie (Capt. Donald Winsor), Alma Tulk, Beryl (Clarence Barefoot) and Sophie Boland; a large circle of other nieces, nephews, family and friends as well as a wealth of precious memories. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Monday, July 30, 2001 at 2 p.m. from St. Thomas Anglican Church with interment to follow in the Anglican cemetery , Forest Road. I hear the boats a chugging in the morning, and watch the caplin roll in on the shore. Still, if God would grant to me a second Heaven, one favour I would ask Him that`s for sure, to make me a boy again on Pinchard`s Island, with all the folks I knew in days of yore. Full well I know this can never happen, we never can turn back the page of time. So in memory this old heart will always wander, back to that Island Home that once was mine.' LAMOTHE, Josephine (nee Yetman) - Passed peacefully away at Northern Lights Hospital, Ft. McMurray, Alberta on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, after a valiant eleven month battle with cancer, age 45 years. Josie was predeceased by her parents Leo and Imelda Yetman and her brothers Matthew and Leo Jr. of St. Mary`s. Left broken-hearted to mourn with cherished memories of a wonderful, loving and generous woman are: loving husband Yves, precious son Steven (age 7 years); brothers Hugh (Elizabeth), St. Mary`s, Edmund (Hilda), Trepassey, Karl, Edmonton, and special brother Edgar (Caregivers Greg and Joanne Taylor) St. John`s; sisters Annette (Keith) Mooney, Ferryland, and Anastasia (Gus) Pike, Goose Bay; father-in-law Lionel (Lise) Lamothe and brother-in-law Sylvan of Quebec and sister-in-law Josée Lamothe, Ottawa; seven nieces, four nephews and numerous relatives and friends in Newfoundland and Alberta. Josie will be especially missed by her devoted and ever vigilant friends Brenda Clarke, Sherry Lowdon and very special cousin Aubrey Yetman in Ft. McMurray.
