MITCHELL, Elizabeth (nee Somerton) — Passed peacefully away on Sunday, August 1, 2004, Elizabeth Mitchell of Portugal Cove, aged 88 years, was predeceased by her husband Jordan, 1975 and son Nelson 1998. Leaving to mourn her son: Russ (Betty); daughter-in-law: Judy; and her dear daughter: Sonia; four grandchildren: Beverly, Susan (Michael Scott), Julie (Raymond Collins) and Mark. Also nephew: Don Somerton and nieces Doreen Gear, Sheila Mitchell and Viola Spurrell; two special friends: Wilfred and Wilhelmina Miller. Left to remember his life, his wife Daisy (nee Pardy); son Keith (Karen); daughters: Barbara, Elaine Hookey (Cy), Lynn Whelan (Sean), Gail Johnson (Joe); grandchildren: Krista, Scott, Adam, Bradley, Megan, Laura, Corinne, Emily, Tyler, Katelyn; brothers-in-law: Herb Pelly (Betty), Don Pelley (Dot), Graham Pelley (Pat) and a large circle of relatives and friends. At his request, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A service of celebration of his life will be held at The Carnell Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery , Kenmount Road. COCKER, John H. “Jack” – Passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit on Saturday, July 18, 2004, Jack Cocker, of St. John’s, aged 79 years. Predeceased by his wife Juanita in 1999. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his daughter Gail Cormey (Dean); sons Glen and Bruce (Bernadette); five grandchildren; Allison, Marianne, Joseph, Aaron and Jennifer; his loving partner Mary Vavasour and her family, Andy and Hillary, Paul and Mary; sister Iris Butler; sisters-in-law Lorraine Rendell and Dallas Rose, other relatives and many life-long friends. SCAMMELL, Grace Darling, R.N. — February 28, 1915 - July 28, 2004, last surviving child of Althea (Jones) and Arthur William Scammell of Change Islands, peacefully at Katherine House. Mourning are her nephews and nieces, especially Elizabeth Scammell-Reynolds, Jack Scammell Hynes, Edward Scammel, Daniel Hoffe, Bernard Hoffe, Joanne Dewar, Elizabeth Roberts, Glen Hoffe, Wendy O'Sullivan, Carolyn Oldford and Robin Hoffe; the family of her late brother Leslie in the United States; her special great-nephew Brian Reynolds; their families; and many other family members and friends. She had been a resident of Katherine House since late 2002 and her family are most grateful to Linda Ebsary and her staff for their exemplary love and care. Arrangements are entrusted to Carnell's Funeral Home and visitors will be received at Carnell's from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 29 and 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 30.
