AUSTIN, Rex — passed away while vacationing in Montreal, PQ on Tuesday, August 10, 2004, Rex Austin, aged 86 years. Predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years Mildred, November, 2002. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories daughter Linda Dell'Elce (Carlo), of Montreal, PQ; beloved grandchildren Jennifer and Michael Dell'Elce of Montreal, PQ; also leaving to mourn his sister Geneva Murphy of St. John's; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. from The Carnell Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant cemetery . In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Combden, Julia Elena
Combden, Julia: Also passed away suddenly on October 3, 2007 from a fatal accident. Leaving to mourn her children daughter Tyra, and son Logan, fiancé Keith Smith (Logan’s dad) and friend Brad White (Tyra’s Dad), father Ross, brother Willie (Kalida), sister Tanya (Jerry); Also a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday from 2p.m. to 4p.m. and 7p.m. to 9p.m. and Sunday from 2p.m. to 4p.m. and 7p.m. to 9p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2007 at 2:30p.m. from St. Pius X. Donations in their name may be made to the Clara & Julia Combden Memorial Fund c/o Scotiabank.

Mitchell, Elizabeth
MITCHELL, Elizabeth (nee Somerton) — Passed peacefully away on Sunday, August 1, 2004, Elizabeth Mitchell of Portugal Cove, aged 88 years, was predeceased by her husband Jordan, 1975 and son Nelson 1998. Leaving to mourn her son: Russ (Betty); daughter-in-law: Judy; and her dear daughter: Sonia; four grandchildren: Beverly, Susan (Michael Scott), Julie (Raymond Collins) and Mark. Also nephew: Don Somerton and nieces Doreen Gear, Sheila Mitchell and Viola Spurrell; two special friends: Wilfred and Wilhelmina Miller. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday from 12-4 p.m. and 7-9 pm., Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Funeral service to take place on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Lawrence Anglican Church, Portugal Cove, with cremation to follow and a private graveside service at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, or St. Lawrence Anglican Church Building Fund.

Fowlow, William
FOWLOW, William Stewart — Retired Electronics Instructor, Cabot Institute. Entered into eternal rest at home on August 5, 2004 at the age of 71 years. Predeceased by son Paul. Left to remember his life, his wife Daisy (nee Pardy); son Keith (Karen); daughters: Barbara, Elaine Hookey (Cy), Lynn Whelan (Sean), Gail Johnson (Joe); grandchildren: Krista, Scott, Adam, Bradley, Megan, Laura, Corinne, Emily, Tyler, Katelyn; brothers-in-law: Herb Pelly (Betty), Don Pelley (Dot), Graham Pelley (Pat) and a large circle of relatives and friends. At his request, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A service of celebration of his life will be held at The Carnell Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery , Kenmount Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Elaine Hookey Transplant Fund at any branch of the Bank of Montreal.

Andrews, Muriel
ANDREWS, Muriel W. (nee Chapman): Passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Center on Monday, May 24, 2004, Muriel W. Andrews, in her 90th year. Predeceased by her husband Ralph; brothers Morris and Jack Chapman. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons: Bob (Elizabeth) Calgary, AB, Don (Eileen) Moncton, NB and Stephen (Emir) Portugal Cove/St. Philips; beloved grandchildren: Robert (Cathy), Scott (Rob), Susan, Patricia (Russell), Lori (Roc), Mark, Neil and Kimberly (Craig); eleven cherished great-grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn brothers Alison and Courtland (Tubby) Chapman; sisters-in-law: Lillian Chapman, Marg Noseworthy, Doris Andrews and Edith Splane; caregivers Tracey and Peg Byrne; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road with private interment to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Cocker, John
COCKER, John H. “Jack” – Passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit on Saturday, July 18, 2004, Jack Cocker, of St. John’s, aged 79 years. Predeceased by his wife Juanita in 1999. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his daughter Gail Cormey (Dean); sons Glen and Bruce (Bernadette); five grandchildren; Allison, Marianne, Joseph, Aaron and Jennifer; his loving partner Mary Vavasour and her family, Andy and Hillary, Paul and Mary; sister Iris Butler; sisters-in-law Lorraine Rendell and Dallas Rose, other relatives and many life-long friends. At Jack’s request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Newfoundland and Labrador Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation.

Scammell, Grace
SCAMMELL, Grace Darling, R.N. — February 28, 1915 - July 28, 2004, last surviving child of Althea (Jones) and Arthur William Scammell of Change Islands, peacefully at Katherine House. Mourning are her nephews and nieces, especially Elizabeth Scammell-Reynolds, Jack Scammell Hynes, Edward Scammel, Daniel Hoffe, Bernard Hoffe, Joanne Dewar, Elizabeth Roberts, Glen Hoffe, Wendy O'Sullivan, Carolyn Oldford and Robin Hoffe; the family of her late brother Leslie in the United States; her special great-nephew Brian Reynolds; their families; and many other family members and friends. She had been a resident of Katherine House since late 2002 and her family are most grateful to Linda Ebsary and her staff for their exemplary love and care. Arrangements are entrusted to Carnell's Funeral Home and visitors will be received at Carnell's from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 29 and 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 30. Her funeral service will take place at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Lewisporte at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 31 with burial following in a family plot. Memorial donations to the Shriners, The Janeway Child Health Centre, the Children's Wish Foundation or St. Margaret's Anglican Church, Change Islands. Well done thou good and faithful servant

PERFECT, Hildred- passed away on Sunday, July 25th, 2004, Hildred Perfect age 71 years. Predeceased by her husband Garfield (1995), grandson Adam (1996), brothers Ross (1978) and Everett (2002). Leaving to mourn son Glenn (Robin); daughter Heather Lingard (Roger); granddaughters Erin, Aimee and Cassie; sister Christina Collins; cousin Jeanette Baggs (John); sisters-in-law Theresa Little and Mary Perfect, and a large circle of family and friends. At Hildred's request, cremation has taken place. For those wishing to pay their respects, the family will be present at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday from 10-12 noon, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Funeral service to be held at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, July 27th, 2004 from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. PATEY, Ida Lillian (Badcock) — Passed peacefully away on July 23, 2004 at the Leonard A. Miller Center, St. John's, Ida Lillian Patey, age 93 years. Predeceased by her husband Chesley (1972). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories two sons Eric (Betty) and Clyde (Meletta), five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on July 24, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at the St. Anthony United Church on Monday, July 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Interment at the United Church cemetery . Predeceased by her parents Edmund J. and Ellen Holwell; sisters Marjorie (Brown) and Lilllian (Garland); brothers Frederick and Kitchener, and brothers-in-law Harry Maunder, George Brown and Clarence Garland. Leaving to mourn her sister, Ellen Maunder; sister-in-law Celia Holwell; much loved nieces and nephews: David, Keith (Eileen), Ian (Cynthia) Garland, Jane, Noel (Catherine), Geoff (Diane) Brown and Renee (Bill) Smith; special grand-nephew, Andrew Garland; the residents and staff of St. Luke's Homes. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation on Monday, July 26, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Cremation to follow. DILLON, Iris Ruby- Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital after a short illness in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her husband Walter, son Jerry and grandsons Mark and James. Will always be remembered by son Kevin (Alma); 12 daughters: Lorraine Whateley, Ruby Morse (Jim), Mary Gallina (Tony), Lorette Mahalak, RoseAnn Walker (Doug), Verna Learning (Fred), Carol Heishman, Edna Maddicks (John), Yvonne Dillon, Brenda Johnson (Phil), Debbie Constantine (Boyd) and Connie Fitzgerald (Bill); 32 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers Calvin (Ella) and Derm (Vi); one sister, Armoral Westover (Graydon); sister-in-law Joan Dillon; also many friends too numerous to mention. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. Visitation from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa'a Church, Mundy Pond Road. Interment to follow in General Protestant cemetery .
