Marshall, Dr. Mary-Anne
MARSHALL, Dr. Mary-Anne – Sadly passed away, unexpectedly, in St. John’s on July 6, 2004 at age 38. She was born in Australia and moved to Newfoundland with her family in 1968. She grew up in St. John’s and graduated from MUN with and MD in 1991. Employment included many years in Emergency Medicine, first in St. John’s and Baie Verte and then in West Virginia. She returned to St. John’s in 1999 and worked in her own family practice. She gave birth to a baby girl, Katie in 2001 and she also leaves to mourn her parents Ingeborg and Bill; her brothers Alfred and Christopher and their families, as well as numerous friends and colleagues. Cremation has taken place and family will be receiving visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Friday, July 9 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Gower Street United Church on Saturday, July 10 at 10 a.m. and will be followed by interment of ashes in the Anglican cemetery in St. Philip’s. Charitable donations can be made in her memory to Doctors Without Borders (Medicins sans Frontiers).

Breen, Alfred
BREEN, Alfred – Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 at the L.A. Miller Center, Alfred John Breen, born February 02, 1926. Predeceased by his son Bobby in 1990. Leaving to mourn his wife Joan (nee Rodden); daughter, Deb (Allen Dillon), Halifax and sons: John (Judy), Bill (Marilyn), Gary and A.J. (Edmonton); seven grandchildren: Robyn and Matthew; Brittany; Bobbi-Lynn and Blair; Julian and Gabriel; brother Gordon; sister Mollie (Gus Collins); five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law and special sister-in-law Sandra (Gerry Locke) as well as a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation will take place on Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral mass to take place on Friday, July 09, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick’s Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Leonard A. Miller Center, Palliative Care Unit.

Wall, Cindy
WALL, Cindy Ann – Passed peacefully away in the arms of her loving husband and parents, after a life long fight with Cystic Fibrosis, at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC on Friday, June 25, 2004, Cindy Ann Wall, aged 31 years. Predeceased by her grandfather James Martin; Grandmother Isabella Wall. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories her husband Scott Simmons; father and mother Philip and Sylvia Wall; sister Stacy and husband Dominic D’Agostino; special long time friend Ann Winsor (Scott); mother-in-law Elizabeth Simmons; brother-in-law Rodney Simmons; sisters-in-law Jackie Armstong; Paula Simmons and Michelle Simmons; special nephew Chris Simmons, other nephews and nieces. Also leaving to mourn Grandmother Mary Martin; Grandfather Frank Wall; Aunts: Jean Sturge (Cyril) Taiwan, Kathy Mackey (Gell) Taiwan, Janet Parsons (David) St. John’s; Uncles: Roland Martin (Sue) Halifax, Ray Martin (Angela) St. John's, Gary Martin (Debbie) St. John’s, David Wall (Mary), St. John’s and Frank Wall (Elizabeth) St. John’s; 16 loving cousins, other relatives and many friends especially her good friend and former babysitter Dawn King and cherished friends in Nanaimo, Debra, Erin and Kerry and the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of 3 South Extension of the Royal Jubilee Hospital who cared so deeply during the past eight years - Sharon Wiltse, RN, Sarah Neil, Karen Rahey, RN and Dr. Ian Waters. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. from Mary Queen of Peace Parish with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

EARL, Daphne R. (Brown) – Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park on July 3, 2004, Daphne Earl, Predeceased by her husband, Harold, parents Reg and Mary Brown, and brothers Douglas and Carl. Leaving to mourn sisters: Audrey Carberry (Fred), St. John’s, Barbara Dawe (Jim), Vernon B.C.; sister-in-law, Faye Brown, St. John’s; and nieces, nephews and many good friends. Cremation has taken place. Visiting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery, Kenmount Road. Donations in her memory may be made to the M.S. Society.

Ryall, Gerald; Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex on Monday, June 28, 2004, Gerald Ryall, aged 74 years. DAWE, Cecil G. – (Korean Veteran, Member of Legion Branch 56, member of the Orange Lodge, retired cameraman with CBC). Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the Health Sciences Center on Monday, July 05, 2004, Cec Dawe, aged 75 years. Predeceased by his brothers William, Leslie, Harry and Ron. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Marina (nee Pope); sons: David (Kathy) and Brian (Joy); beloved grandchildren: Stephanie, Timothy, Gillian, Jessica and special grandson Jonathan. MATTHEWS, Rodney – Passed peacefully away on Sunday, June 27, 2004 at the Health Sciences Center, Rodney Matthews, aged 68 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife Geraldine; three daughters Anne (Keith) Hillier, Pat (Ralph) Smith and Ruth (John) Russell; seven grandchildren Cameron, Kurt, Heather, Allison, Michelle, Sarah and Benjamin; three great-grandchildren; brothers Rex and Kel; sisters Millie and Mauricitte; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Upon Rodney’s request, cremation has taken place. As service of remembrance will take place on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation.

DWYER, Lucy Amelia – Passed peacefully away on Friday, July 2, 2004, at Masonic Park Nursing Home, Lucy Dwyer aged 85 years. Predeceased by her husband Clarence G. Dwyer and infant son Frederick Lloyd. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children; Gerald (Angie), June (David) Mercer, Cynthia (Leo) Drodge, Eric, Gary (Diane), David and Lloyd Dwyer, Pamela (Lloyd) Winsor; also 12 precious grandchildren and six beloved great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., on Sunday from 10-12, 2-4 p.m., 7-9 p.m. with cremation to follow. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, July 5, 2004 from Carnell's Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery, Kenmount Road. MONK, Minnie – Passed peacefully away on Monday, June 21, 2004 at her residence, Minnie Monk, aged 85 years. Predeceased by her loving husband Clayton. Left to mourn with warm and loving memories her three cherished children: son Clesson (Joan) and their children Clesson Jr., Heather (Gerry) Finn, Michael (Dawn) Summers and Stacey (Greg) Hagerty; daughter: Marilyn and her children Catherine and Olivia; son Derrick (Helen) and their children Stephen and Justin and their mother Connie; five great-grandchildren: James, Jonathan, Matthew, Brandon and Catherine. Also lovingly remembered by sisters Mariah and Phyllis and brothers William (Greta) and Dudley (Phoebe). White, George
WHTIE, George L. (World War II Veteran, 59th Royal Artillery Field Regiment) – Born October 31, 1923 at Creston, Newfoundland; Passed peacefully away at Victoria, British Columbia on June 17, 2004. Leaving with wonderful memories, Lila, his loving and devoted wife of 58 years; five children: Charlie (Susanne); Peggy (Alvin); Ralph (Virgie); Nancy; and Carl; brothers Steve and Jim, sister Lorina; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends in Newfoundland, British Columbia and Ontario. A gathering of remembrance took place in Victoria on June 19. Visitation in St. John’s on Tuesday, June 22 at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorial service from Carnell’s Chapel, Wednesday, June 23 at 2 p.m. Interment at the Field of Honour, Mount Pleasant cemetery, St. John’s. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland and Labrador or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be gratefully accepted.

BARNES, Margaret Almira: passed away on Monday, June 14, 2004 at St. Luke’s Homes, Margaret Almira Barnes (nee Mosdell) in her 90 year. Predeceased by husband Isaac in 1984. Left to mourn her children Joan (Ron Keating), Barbara (Frank Keating), Roger (Peggie Linegar) and Christine (Dave Gill); beloved grandchildren and cherished great-grandchildren; brother Harold Mosdell and sisters Dorothy Mosdell, Nova Scotia and Patricia Rose, Florida. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery, Kenmount Road. No flowers by request. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
