Squires, Joseph Roy
SQUIRES, Joseph Roy (Squid) — passed away suddenly at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, January 31, 2005, Joseph Roy Squires, age 63 years. A member of the First Guards during 1959, upon his retirement in 1983 he was with the 2RCR. He also worked as Commissionaire with the RCMP detachment in St. John's. Predeceased by his mother, Florence in 2004 and father Albert in 1988. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 40 years Odette (nee Robillard); three children: Donald (Agnes), St. Philips; Sharon Barrett (Robert), Mount Pearl and Leif, St. Philips; six grandchildren: Alycia Squires, Matthew Squires, Kenny, Samantha and Timothy Barrett; Ryan Roy Squires; two brothers: Albert (Pam) and Donald; four sisters: Edna Phelan, Florence Brown (Kevin), Jean Sears and Violet Lynch (Gerald); sister-in-law Andr e Williams; mother-in-law Leona Robillard, also a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Funeral service to take place on Friday, February 04, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Philip's Anglican Church with interment to follow at St. Philip's Anglican cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Nichols, John
NICHOLS, John R.: March 27, 1912-January 22, 2005. Passed peacefully away at home on Saturday, January 22, 2005, John Ryall Nichols, aged 92 years. Predeceased by first wife, Peggy (Kirkcaldy), second wife, Marie (Butt), brother, Peter and sister, Hilda Duff. Leaving to mourn sisters: Mary Hiscock (St. John's) and Marjorie Hawkins (Sudbury, Ontario), children: Anne Averiss (Richard), Katherine Shears (Claude); Robert (Marilyn), Angus (Denise), 10 grandchildren: Jessica, Rebecca and Alexander Averiss; Carolyn, John, Mark Shears; Luke and John Nichols, Bradley and Stacey Nichols; Jack was a member of the first contingent of Newfoundland Rangers, served with the RCAF during WW11 and practised throughout Newfoundland as an Optometrist for 35 years, retiring in 1982. At Jack's request, cremation has taken place. SEGOVIA, Susana Elena — Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex in the presence of her children on January 25, 2005, Susana Elena Ravenna de Segovia, in her 72nd year. Predeceased by her husband Dr. Jorge Segovia and her brother Jorge Ravenna. Leaving to celebrate her life, son Jorge; daughter Andrea (Garfield Somerton); cherished granddaughter Susana Olivia Somerton; brother Hector Ravenna; sisters-in-law: Marta Huergo and Cristina Amoedo; and several nieces and nephews. Also lovingly remembered by other relatives and many special friends, including staff and residents of 2 East Escasoni. Winsor, Pastor Arthur Samuel
WINSOR, Pastor Arthur Samuel: Passed peacefully away on January 10, 2005 at the Pentecostal Senior Citizens Home, Clarkes Beach in his 100th year. Predeceased by his wife Palmer and daughter Fay. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories five sons: Eric (Annie), Arthur (Sonja), Wilmer (Margie) Baxter (Sa) and Gary (Eva); 18 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends. Pastor Winsor started ministry in 1926 and was instrumental in the establishing of several churches with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland. He served as a district superintendent for several of the 19 years he spent as Chaplain of Institutions in St. John’s. He retired from active ministry in 1982 at the age of 77, but continued preaching by invitation. He preached his last sermon at the age of 95. Resting at Carnell’ Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Friday from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10-12, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. from Bethesda Pentecostal Church, St. John’s. PIPPY, Kristina Denise: passed away peacefully at the Miller Centre on January 7, 2005 after a brief and brave struggle with cancer, Kristina Denise Pippy, age 44. Predeceased by her father, Douglas J. Pippy. Leaving to mourn with precious memories, children: Ayla and Mark Perry and their father Roger; loving mother Florence Pippy and two sisters Sharon Pippy (Dave Hopley) and Pamela Pippy (Todd Noseworthy); nieces Joy Hopley and Claire Noseworthy and nephew Sam Hopley. Also leaving behind Aunt Sharon and Uncle Ches Poppy, a sad and loving extended family, special friends Junior and Cathy, and seven cats. The family would like to thank Maia, Wanda, Paige and the other nurses of Tender Loving Care for the gentle and compassionate care given to Kristina during her hospital stay. Miller Center on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, Elizabeth Anne Dale, aged 56 years. Predeceased by her father Lewis in 1964; mother Hazel in 1993 and father-in-law Elisha Dale in 1996. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Thomas; sons: Jonathan and Aaron; brother David Russell (Carole); mother-in-law Myrtle Dale; brothers-in-law: Ralph (Alison), Harold (Ellen) and David (Lorena); sisters-in-law: Marilyn Woodfine (Jack), Carol-Ann Dale (Wilf), Valerie Earles (Joe) and Jackie Dale (Bob); many special nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends especially the members of the St. John’ Duplicate Bridge Club and the staff of the former Macpherson Junior High School and Brother Rice High School.
