CHAFE, Mary Ellen (nee Hall, formerly Mercer)– Passed peacefully away on Monday, September 24, 2007 at St. Luke’s Home, age 93 years. Predeceased by husbands, Harold Mercer and Angus Chafe. Leaving to mourn daughter Susanne Higgins (Geoffrey) and son Paul (Joan Kosby); grandchildren: Andrea Higgins (Matthew O’Callaghan), Valerie Higgins and Geoffrey Higgins; great-granddaughter Sadie O’Callaghan. Also mourning Mary’s passing are step-daughters: Anne Osmond and Heather Courage (John) and their children: Paul Osmond, Andrew Osmond and Charlotte Courage. Mary also leaves a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, September 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery, Kenmount Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland & Labrador or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

SOMERTON, Henry– Passed peacefully away September 25, 2007 at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by his loving family and friends, Henry Somerton, age 75. Retired caretaker at St. Andrew’s Elementary School. Predeceased by parents Flora and Alexander; brothers: Herbert, William James, Phillip, and Freddie; sisters: Helen and Hilda. Leaving to mourn devoted wife and best friend of 50 years, Mary (nee Miller); five loving daughters: Trif (Vince) Healey, Glenys (Eugene) Hodder, Mary (Pat Codner), Liz (Trent) Pinsent and Jackie; eight loving grandchildren: Michael, Melissa, Jeanie, Jennifer, Stephen, Ashley, Travis, ‘Poppy’s Little Buddy’ Dylan and great-grandchild Destiny; sisters: Fredericka Greeley and Florie Loveridge; special nephew Mack Somerton; sister-in-law Millie Miller and brothers-in-law: Adrian, Peter and Jim Miller. Henry will be sadly missed by all and will remain in our hearts forever. Predeceased by her husbands Hugh Baird and Campbell Eaton and brothers Thomas and Dougald Jamieson and sister Caroline Knight. Leaving to mourn are her children: Hugh, Christopher (Anne), Alexander (Sonya), Duncan (Janet), Helen (Patrick Heneghan), Caroline (Stephen Kelly), Ian (Isabelle), Stuart (Susan); step-children: Janet O’Dea (John), Fraser Eaton (Irene), Sandy Eaton (Darlene), David Eaton (Evelyn), Deborah Trickett (David), Robyn Eaton (Frank Demont) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister Marion Andrews. KENNEDY, Lorraine Martin- With deep sadness the family of Lorraine Martin Kennedy announce her passing at her home in Bay Bulls. Lorraine is adored and loved by her husband of 42 years, Tom Kennedy (pharmacist); her sons: Tom Jr. and Douglas; daughters: Neysa Wall, Tanya Wall and Catherina Kennedy Kelly; sons-in-law: Gordon Wall, Paul Kelly and Garry Wall; and daughter-in-law April Kennedy. Lorraine's passion for living will carry on through her adoring grandchildren: Jack, Alexander and Cameron Kennedy; Kaitlin and Thomas Wall; Gavin Wall; and Ciaran Kelly. Lorraine is remembered with love by her brothers: James and Kevin Martin; nieces: Tina Johannes, Lisa and Crystal Martin and their mother Betty-Lou Martin; her great-nephew Bryce Johannes; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Alice and John Abbott, Mike and Tess Kennedy, Rosemary Fahey, Frank and Tessie Kennedy, Roberta Kennedy Gillespie, Betty-Lou and Patrick Kennedy, Marilyn Kennedy, and Cathy and Bill O'Keefe.
