RUSSELL, Robert George — Passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, November 9, 2004, Robert George Russel, aged 74 years, formerly of Port Union. Served with the Canadian Army, member of Branch 16 Catalina and Branch 56, also member of the Orange Lodge. Predeceased by his parents Samuel and Sarah; brother: Eli and brother-in-law: Victor Johnson. Leaving to mourn with many fond memories his loving wife and best friend Juanita. Beloved children: Bonnie (Peter), Lucy (Rob), Paul (Joanne), Peter (Wanda), Elmo (Cathy); ten precious grandchildren: Stacey, Russell, Heidi, Brandon, Danielle, Lauren, Colin, Michelle, Alexander and Logan. Also mourning his sisters and brothers: Douglas (Gertrude), Melina, Arthur (Edith), Edgar (Ibena) and Rebecca. Special cousin Daisy Hiscock; special niece Helga Walsh. NICOL, James R. — passed away suddenly at his residence on November 20, 2004, aged 79 years. Predeceased by his daughter Helen Pollard. STEVENS, Mary Elizabeth — Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 in the presence of her loving family at the Palliative Care Unit of the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Mary Elizabeth Stevens of Mount Pearl, aged 78 years. Predeceased by her husband Ben, brother George Hibbs, sister Leah Parsons, brothers-in-law Edward Parsons, Norman Stevens and sister-in-law Myrtle Hibbs. Left with fond and loving memories her sister Nellie (Roger) Warren with whom she resided, brother Fred, sisters-in-law Gladys Hibbs, Hilda Stevens and Emily Broderick as well as many special nieces and nephews and their families along with other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, October 28 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Friday, October 29 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Howie, Dorothy Ruth
HOWIE, Dorothy Ruth: Passed peacefully away after a short illness on October 29, 2004 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John’s, aged 88 years. She was born on Bell Island, lived in Toronto, ON for 47 years and returned to Newfoundland in 1999. Predeceased by her husband Norman Howie, mother and father Thomas J. & Catherine (MacDonald) Gray; brothers: Wilson (Mary) and Thomas Jr., sisters: Jean & Catherine and niece Bertha Marilyn Gray. Leaving to mourn nieces: Kathryn Gray and Dorothy (Jim) Long, and special friends Mary Mullowney, Holyrood, Jean Cooper of Brampton, ON and lifelong friend Carrie Noseworthy, also staff & residents of Pearl House, Mount Pearl. As per her wishes a private funeral will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2004 followed by cremation. Interment at Mount Pleasant cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital, St. John’s. She will be sincerely missed; however, we remember her good life. She was an excellent homemaker and a bountiful hostess. Like her dad she was an avid sports fan. She really enjoyed watching figureskating and was “thrilled to bits” when her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs won!. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Carnell’s Funeral Home. May she rest in peace.

Eng.- Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s, surrounded by his loving family at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on Friday, October 29, 2004, Ronald Jeffrey Noah, age 78 years. Predeceased by his parents, John and Muntaha Noah. Leaving to mourn his dearest Beth; seven children: Charlotte (Michael) Walsh, Gregory (Kathi), Constance (Joseph) Walsh, Caroline (Gregory) Vaughan, Sean (Carol-Ann), Gwendolyn and Christopher; eighteen grandchildren: Heidi, Danny, Sandy and Rebecca; Adrienne and Eleanor Walsh; Robyn, Andrew, Alan, Kate and Christopher Vaughan; Thomas, Benjamin and Heather; Emily, Krista, Mark and Stephen Walsh; great-granddaughter Emma Grace; brother, Douglas (Rish), Ottawa; also a large circle of relatives and dear friends. Ron enjoyed a long and productive career for over 40 years as president of R.J. Noah and Associates Ltd., a consulting and drilling firm. His professional work took him throughout the province and to national and international locations. An avid hunter and fisherman, Ron relished the fall hunting season and enjoyed fly and bait fishing on many of Newfoundland's rivers and ponds. A loving son, father and grandfather, he welcomed every opportunity for gathering with his family in good humour and lively conversation.
