BURRY, Gerald Gordon: Passed peacefully away on March 23, 2005 Gordon Burry of Portugal Cove, formerly of Greenspond age 73 years. Predeceased by his father & mother Frederick & Elizabeth Burry; father & mother-in-law: Robert & Maria Allen; sisters: Pricilla Kean, Ethel Stanulis, Marion Bragg & Alice Barbour; brothers-in-law: Benjamin Stanulis & Earl Barbour. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 50 years Mary (nee Allen); daughters: Renee Burry (Henry Hussey) Gisele Burry (Raymond Parsons); son Glenn Burry (Gail [nee Anstey]); beloved grandchildren: Henry & Benjamin Hussey; Sheldon, Cynthia & Justin Burry; sister Elsie Granter, Bishop Falls; brothers: Cecile, Portugal Cove, Frederick (Carrie) Portugal Cove & Robert (Mia) Alberta; brothers-in-law: Everett Allen (Florence) Harbour Breton, Edward Kean & Frederick Bragg; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Dwyer, St. John’s; Loretta Collins (Leonard) Portugal Cove, Margaret Hammond (Thomas) Portugal Cove; nieces nephews, other relatives and friends. At Gordon’s request there will be no visitation. Private Funeral service will take place at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Arthritis Society. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Carnell’s Funeral Home.

Anstey, Albert J. : Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Thursday, March 24, 2005, aged 74 years. Predeceased by his son Donald in 2001 and brother Bill Dunphy in 2002. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Agatha (nee Hickey); sons John (Frances), Gordon (Karen), Randy (Debbie), Ken (Tammie) and Dave (Tammi); daughters Wendy Butland (David), Debbie Hickey (Guy Randell), and Sherri Anstey; daughter-in-law Carolyn Anstey; 18 beloved grandchildren and 2 cherished great grandsons; brothers Tom Anstey (Bernadette) and Gerald Anstey (Mary); sisters Grace Mercer, Mildred Hedderson, Phyllis Dwyer and Glady Noftal; sister in law Jessie Dunphy; other relatives and a large circle of friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 28, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. from Corpus Christi Church with interment to follow at holy Sepulchre cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Carew, Gabriel Wilson; Passed peacefully away on Saturday, April 02, 2005, at the Palliative Unit, Leonard A. Miller Center, Gabriel Wilson Carew, formerly of Gander, aged 87 years. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his son Wilson (Betty), Manuels and daughter Margaret Cane (Tom), Dartmouth, NS; beloved grandchildren Michelle, Ron (Sandra), Crystal, Lisa and Stacey; cherished great-grandchildren Amber, Logan, Brayden and Lucas; other relatives and many friends, especially his neighbors at Key West Court. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday from 2-4 and7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, April 5th, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from The Carnell Memorial Chapel with cremation to follow. PATTEN, Charles — Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, Charles Norman Patten, age 79. Celebrating his life are his loving wife Susan and children: Robert (Nancy), John (Debbie), Margaret and Jane (Thomas). Left with beautiful, treasured memories are his much loved grandchildren: Allan, Anna, Stephanie, Juleah, Susan and Catherine. Also left to mourn are his brother: Chesley (Kay) and sister: Jane in Toronto. Cremation has taken place. SHORT, Patrick (Retired Businessman, Short's Construction Ltd.) — Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 in the presence of his loving family at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex, Patrick Short, age 78 years. Born in Kingston, Conception Bay on October 07, 1926. Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Bridget; brothers Gerald, Stan, Sam, William and Phil and sister Rosalie. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his devoted wife Mary; three sons: Ed (Harriet), Bernie (Barb) and Pat (Sharon); two daughters: Kathy and Michelle (Clyde Snow); twelve grandchildren: Andrew (Jennifer), Allison and Matthew Short; Jillian, Karla, Megan and Ian Short; Emily and Patrick Short; Jenna Storey (father David Storey); and Olivia and Gavin Snow; one great-grandchild Andie Short; his brother Phonse (Maggie) of Carbonear; brother-in-law Michael King (Mary); sisters-in-law Mercedes Williams (Henry), Theresa MacDonald (Edward, deceased), and Minnie Short; also, a large number of relatives, friends and former business associates. It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family of Matthew Rodney Churchill, age 15, of Portugal Cove, announce his passing on March 28, 2005 as the result of a tragic accident just minutes from home. He has taken his place as an angel and with his grandmother Helen Pugh and his great-grandparents. She leaves to mourn her children Maria Woodland, June Inder (Jim) of St. John’s, Jane Wojciechowski (Jim) of Buffalo, New York, George (Winnie) of Quebec, Bruce (Joan) of Fortune and Roy of New Glasgow, NS; son-in-law Alfred MacPhee (Carol) of Clarenville; 13 beloved grandchildren, 17 cherished great-grandchildren and one adored great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews who were very special to her; roommate Marjorie Peddle and the staff and residents of The Glenbrook Lodge; other relatives and many friends. COLLINS, Maxine Pansy- (January 7, 1950) passed away March 25th, 2005. She is survived by her sons Ian and Darryl Bonnell and their father Reg. Also leaving to mourn her mother, Alma Collins; sisters Audrey Collins (Roy), Masie Hicks (Eugene); brothers Wallace Collins (Wilhemine), Winston Collins (Patsy), Gordon Collins (Wilhemina), Clayton Collins (Lois) and Larry Collins (Hazel). As well as many other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her father John Collins and sisters, Vera Young (John) and Jacqueline Cull (Reg).
