Adams-Austin, Florence
ADAMS-AUSTIN, Florence — Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, Florence Adams-Austin, age 69 years. Predeceased by her parents Eli and Frances Lewis, brother: William Lewis. Leaving to mourn loving husband of 37 years, William; daughters: Phyllis Parrell (Jeff) and Suzette Little (Maurice); sons: David, Randy (Bernadine), Don (Maxine) and Jim (Sandra); twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother: Ralph; five sisters: Mary LeShane (Bill), Mary Wallace (Doug), Judy Abbott (Don), Maureen Pearce (Harold) and Lorna Squires (Clayton); other relatives and a large circle of friends. Cremation has taken place at Florence's request. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Rd. Interment to follow in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. No flowers by request, donations in Florence's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

SHARPE, Eileen
SHARPE, Eileen Ina (formerly Squires, nee Clarke) of St. Philip’s: passed away on March 20, 2005, at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, Eileen Ina Sharpe, aged 90 years. Predeceased by her first husband Arthur Squires 1946 and their five children: Arthur 1936; Ina 1940, Rose 1941, Cecil 1946, and Rita 1947; second husband Stephen Sharpe 1998; stepson Errol Sharpe 2005. Left to celebrate her life and mourn her passing: Stephen Jr. (special daughter-in-law Madge); Della Martin (Harry), Ontario; stepchildren: Viola Squires, Stephen Tucker (Barbara); foster son Robert Squires (Hilda), Ontario; step daughter-in-law Shirley; brother Lindberg (Betty); sisters Thelma Somerton, Sybil Druken; half-brother Wallace Clarke (Georgie); half-sister Elizabeth Gosse (Cal); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Throughout her lifetime, some of Eileen’s happiest hours were spent helping and serving others. Her life was enriched not only by her care of Waterford Hospital patients, but also by her many years of service to her church (including as organist for over 50 years, and treasurer), the LOBA (Provincial Grand Mistress), the St. Philip’s Seniors Sunshine Club (founding President), the Provincial Pensioners and Senior Citizen’s Federation (Secretary) and to many other charities and service organizations. All are better for having her touch their lives. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. with visitation on Monday from 2-9 p.m.; Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Wednesday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Philip’s Anglican Church, St. Philip’s with interment to follow in St. Philips Anglican cemetery. Flowers gratefully appreciated, or donations may be made in her memory to St. Philip’s Anglican Church Building Fund.

Phelan, Edmund
Phelan, Edmund J. QC: Passed peacefully away at his home on Friday, March 11, 2005, Edmund J. Phelan QC in his 103rd year. Predeceased by his wife Margaret in 2003. Leaving to mourn his loving son Edmund Graham (Kathleen) Phelan; nephews Eugene, Douglas and John Fierrio and their families in the United States, William (Sharon) Graham of W. Porters Lake, Nova Scotia and Adrian (Carolyn) Graham of St. John’s; loving grand-niece Andrea Graham and grand-nephews Andrew (Laura) Graham and Anthony Graham; as well as a large circle of friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist with interment to follow at Belvedere cemetery.

Lucas, Violet
LUCAS, Violet — Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in her 94th year, our wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Violet Lucas (nee Adams). Predeceased by son George Jr., 1973; husband George, 1975; son Bill, 1982 and sister Blanche Chancey, 2003. Leaving with joyful memories four sons and five daughters: Fred (Ella), David (Theresa - predeceased), Roy (Blanche), Bruce (Mary), Jean Hudson (Dave), Ruby Lindstrom (Eric), Joyce Rose (Max), Gail Dempsey (Erin) and Linda Best (Ben); two daughters-in-law: Josephine and Alice; thirty-one grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren; also special friend Marie Young. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Funeral service to take place on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from Seventh Day Adventist Church, Aldershot Street with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant cemetery. MORRIS, Phoebe — Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home on March 11, 2005, Phoebe Morris age 89 years, formerly of Dunfield, Trinity Bay. Leaving to mourn two daughters Madeline (Harold) Peddle, Mount Pearl; Yourdis (Albert) King, St. John's and one son Melvin (Ursula) Clarke, Dunfield; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister Beatrice Hale, Oshawa; other relatives and friends. Resting at Church of the Good Shepherd, Dunfield beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Funeral service on Monday, March 14, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Interment at the Anglican cemetery, Trinity. POWER, Norbert (Dick)- Passed peacefully away in Ottawa in the presence of his loving family on Saturday March 12, 2005. Norbert (Dick) Ronald Christopher Power, age 46 years. Predeceased by his father, Norbert Power in 1989. Leaving to mourn with loving memories, his devoted wife Cynthia Daley, and mother, Marie Power, family Ros Farrell (John), Maureen Williams (Danny), Donna Martin (Bruce), Toni Bruce (Pat), Shelley Yetman (Bill), Charlie Follett (Julie) as well as in-laws Peter and Lavena Daley, Denise Daley (Ross White), Sharon Daley, Deanne Daley (Don Arscott), Petrina Daley (Manny Rodrigues), Ross Daley, uncle Tom Walsh (Alice) and special cousin Shawn Follett. Cherished by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a very large circle of friends. A very special thanks to Dr. Stan Gertler and Dr. Olu Agboola of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre, Dr. Khan and Dr. Karanofsky of Ottawa, Dr. Ian Marshall and Dr. Maroun of St. John's and the wonderful ICU and Organ Transplant teams at the Ottawa General Hospital. BUTLER, E. Delphine (Dell) — Passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre in the presence of her loving family on March 10, 2005, Delphine Butler, age 91 years. Predeceased by her husband, Cyril Butler (1991). Fondly remembered by her special nephew Gary Jones (Karen); sister-in-law Mabel Haley; her extended family of nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Friday and Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 10-12 noon. Funeral service will take place on Sunday, March 13, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Topsail. Interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery, Topsail. Murphy, Lillian
MURPHY, Lillian: Passed peacefully away following a brief battle with cancer, Lillian Violet Murphy (nee Dwyer) age 74. Predeceased by her loving husband Gus. Leaving to mourn one brother Rhode “Wayne” Dwyer; three daughters: Debbie (fiancée Rick Frizzell), Connie (husband Frank Browne), Peggy (husband Jim Stone); four grandchildren: Krista & Douglas (Browne) & fiancée Shannon Savoury, Jimmy & Jennifer (Stone); one special little great-grandson Joshua (Browne) and a special family friend Leonard Barry. At Lillian’s request, cremation has taken place. Private arrangements entrusted to Carnell’s Funeral Home Ltd.

BENMORE, Robert Maxwell- Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit of the L.A. Miller Centre on Sunday, March 13, 2005, Robert Maxwell Benmore age 71 years. Predeceased by his mother Phyllis in 1971 and father Wilfred in 1979, sister Betty in 1978, brother Jim in 2003, brother-in-law Morley Ford in 2005 and special uncle Bill in 2004. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 52 years, Loretta (nee Ford); two sons: Robbie (Sheila) and Randy (Barb); four grandchildren: Geoffrey, Angela (Terry), Robyn Croft (Shawn) and Mark; sisters: Jean McDonald (Frank), Jane Benmore, and special sister Sylvia White (Greg); brothers: Bill (Sandy), David (Pearl) and Don (Elaine); sister-in-law Annie Benmore; sisters-in-law: Enid Huffman (Leroy) and Dorothy Ford; brothers-in-law: Bud Ford (Linda) and Gordon Ford (Marilyn); Aunt Hilda Benmore and many other relatives and friends. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Saturday, March 19, 2005, Una Brown (nee Somerton) of Clarenville, formerly of Portugal Cove, aged 52 years. Predeceased by her father Fred Somerton. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband Hubert; sons Scott (Danette), St. John’s and Craig (Jennifer), St. John’s; beloved grandchildren Emily and Jack; Also leaving to mourn are her mother Ethel Somerton; sisters Betty Mitchell (John), Portugal Cove and Hazel Saint (Max), Musgravetown; brother Freddie Somerton (Sandra), Portugal Cove; special friends Lillian and Francis Young, Clarenville, special cousin Judy Mitchell, St. John’s as well as many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends, especially her staff at Chateau Park Hotel, Mount Pearl and Rest Land Motel, Clarenville. GREENING, Hubert (Bert) Willis — A gentle angel's heart has stopped beating. Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle without complaint, surrounded by his loving and devoted family, Hubert Willis Greening. Predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn (nee Matthews); parents, John and Barbara Greening; sisters: Hilda and Evelyn. Leaving to mourn with precious memories, daughters: Peggy (Bob), Bonnie (Bill), Judy (Wayne); and son Wade (Beulah); also leaving his very loving brothers: Lloyd (Ella), Musgravetown, Jose (Doris), Terra Nova, Harold (Muriel), Musgravetown; sisters: Jean (late Lou Palmer), Musgravetown, Daisy Ivany, Clarenville; sisters-in-law: Pearl (Lloyd Hickman), St. John's, Myra (late Hubert Oldford), St. John's and Ethel (late George Moss), Cannings Cove; also leaving a legacy of gentle love to his grandchildren: Jodi, Suzzanne, Stephen, Stacey, Amanda, Jennifer, Jonathan and Ashley; also ten great-grandchildren and dearly loved and respected family and friends. We are so grateful to have had our long journey at Glenbrook Lodge and for those of you who supported us physically, emotionally and spiritually during our vigil.
