Nugent, Barbara Jean
NUGENT, Barbara Jean– Passed peacefully away on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the Health Sciences Centre, Barbara Jean Nugent, aged 82 years, WWII Veteran. Predeceased by her parents, Harry and Lily and brother Stan. Leaving to mourn her nieces: Sheila, Linda, Paula and Fay; nephew Martin and sister-in-law Joyce Hancock, all of England. Barbara also leaves to mourn her close friends: June, George, Robin and Daniel Osmond, Abbie and Betty Parsons, Betty and David Adey, as well as Barbara and Ed Belbin. Her little dog Pepper will also miss her greatly. At Barbara’s request, cremation has taken place and her remains will be returned to her home in England for burial. There will be no visitation. Donations may be made to her favorite charity, the SPCA.

Whaley, Eunice
Whaley, Eunice (1909 - 2008) passed away peacefully after a long and healthy life of 99 years. Born in Cleveland Ohio, she moved to Painesville, Ohio and later to Adeytown and, most recently, to St. John’s, NL. Predeceased by her husband Miles and her grandson Michael, Eunice is survived by her daughter, Dianna Erbland (Alex); her grandchildren, Ann (Robert), Stephen (Neachel) and Julie (Dawn); and great grandchildren, Nathanial and Marissa. Eunice was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and many friends at Hoyles Complex. A period of visitation took place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, St. John’s on Saturday September 27, from 5-7 p.m. Where upon her remains were transferred to Clarenville for visitation at Fewer’s Funeral Home from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, September 28. Interment followed in the United Church cemetery in Adeytown, Trinity Bay. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Hoyles-Escasoni Foundation 10 Escasoni Place St. John's, NL, A1A 3R6.

Rodgers, Edith Blanche
RODGERS, Edith Blanche (nee Churchill)– Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Hospital on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, Edith Blanche Rodgers, aged 93 years. Predeceased by her husband Charles and son Brook. Leaving to mourn daughters: Gail Ivany (predeceased Jim) and Rhonda Price (Robert); son Fraser (Jacinta); four grandchildren: Andrew, Tina, Nancy and Bethany; daughter-in-law Ginny Rodgers; special pet Elvis; other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation from 2-9 p.m. Friday, October 3rd. Funeral service on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. from St. Thomas’ Anglican Church. Interment to follow in the Anglican cemetery, Kenmount Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Blanche’s memory may be made to Saint Luke’s Homes.

Kelsey, Elizabeth
Kelsey, Elizabeth S. (nee Powell) (Libby Lang): passed away at Carbonear Hospital on October 1, 2008 at age 71 after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband John Kelsey, parents Clarence and Elsie Powell, brother Clarence Powell, brother-in-law Ross Montgomery and sisters-in-law Beverly Powell, Rachael Aukland and Carrie Burden. Leaving to mourn a large circle of family and friends: children Chris Lang (Denise Holloway) and Steve Lang (Rosarii Power) of St. John's; Mike Lang of Thunder Bay; Joannah Lang (Gayle MacDonald) of Fredericton; Jennifer Lang of Ottawa; grand-child Krista Baker (Mike Nicolas) of Toronto; siblings Bert (Paula) Powell, Marilyn Montgomery (Ralph Hiscock), and George Burden; step-children Hazel Galvanis and Elizabeth Young. Also leaving to mourn special friends Peg Spurrell, Geraldine Murphy, Anne Chafe and special family Rebecca, Michael, Doris and Calvin Powell. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.

Vaters, Doris W.
Vaters, Doris W. (nee Penney) – Passed peacefully away at the Glenbrook Lodge on October 4, 2008 age 88 years. In the presence of her daughters Maxine and Ann, formerly of Salmon Cove, Conception Bay. Predeceased by her husband Maxwell Vaters. Left to mourn daughters Maxine Ivory and Ann Luscombe, five grandchildren Patricia (Robert), Craig and Richard (Linda), Kelly and William (Amanda), eight great-grandchildren Ashley, O’Neil, Amber, Skylar, Kruiz, Tyrell, Bailee and Ava Jane Seymour, two sisters-in-law Ann Osmond, Georgia White. special nephew and wife Maxwell and Maureen Butt. Special cousin Lima Kelloway Spurrell, old neighbors of Prestwick Place and a special thank-you to the staff of Glenbrook Lodge. Doris will also be fondly remembered by her many friends at St. James UCW, and remembered for her years of volunteer service at the Canadian Red Cross. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday from 10:00-12:00, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 and Tuesday from 10:00-12:00 Noon. Funeral Service to take place from St. James United Church on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Doris’ memory may be made to St. James United Church.

LeGrow, Eliza May
LeGrow, Eliza Mae – Passed peacefully away at the Glenbrook Lodge surrounded by her loving family on October 4, 2008 Eliza Mae LeGrow aged 95 years, of Bauline. Predeceased by her husband Roland (1994) sister Blanch Sheppard, brother Albert LeGrow. Left to mourn are her children Miriam Engelbrecht (Clarence deceased), Charles (Gladys), Roland Jr. (Barbara), Lorraine Field (Robert), ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren as well as her brothers Reginald LeGrow (Effie) Marystown, Matthew LeGrow (Violet) Mt. Pearl and sister Kathleen Flight Massachusetts, sister-in-law Gladys Gorsuch Massachusetts, brother-in-law Silas LeGrow (Edna) Arkansas and sister-in-law Anita Gaulton (Stephenville). Eliza Mae also leaves a large number of nephews, nieces and other extended family and friends. Resting at Carnells Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday and Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00. Funeral Service to take place on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from Bauline United Church with interment to follow at the Bauline United cemetery. In Lieu of flowers donations in Eliza Mae’s memory may be made to the Bauline United Church Building Fund.

Winter, Millicent (Bump) nee Anderson
WINTER, Millicent (Bump) nee Anderson 1913-2008: passed away at St. Clare’s on October 4th, 2008, surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her husband Gordon A. Winter in 2003 and her daughter Valda Tiller in 2001. Left to mourn her loss but thankful for their many happy memories of her long life are her daughter Linda Barrett (David); her grandchildren: Valerie Hodder (Craig), Lesley Smith (Alex), Jennifer Harding (Dan), Boston, MA; Keith Barrett (Dianne), Ian Barrett; her great-grandchildren: Jordan and Claire Hodder; Megan, Kaitlyn and Colin Smith; Caroline, Christopher and Ryan Harding and Matthew and Hannah Barrett; her son-in-law Dr. William Tiller (Susan); brother-in-law Dr. Nigel Rusted; sisters-in-law Phyllis Winter and Barbara Strang (Calgary); also her devoted and caring housekeeper Mary Boland as well as her other caregivers. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Tuesday, October 7, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00 -9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 8, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place from St. Thomas’ Anglican Church on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery, Forest Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses or a charity of one’s choice.

Morgan, Marjorie
Morgan, Marjorie (nee LeGrow)-Passed peacefully away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Marjorie Morgan in her 97th year. Born in 1913 in the community of Bauline. Member of the LOBA. Predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Julius; daughter Agnes and son-in-law Jim Hennebury. Leaving to mourn her 5 sons, Gordon (Marjorie), Nelson (Dallas), Gerald (Rosalyn), George (Jocelyn) and Cecil (Diane); two daughters, Beatrice Bush (Gerald) and Geraldine Parsons (Richard); 18 grandchildren, Pamela, Debra, Sandra, Roxanne, Chris, Nancy, Scott, Tracey, Lana, Marcel, Jason, Tony, Justin, Terry, Rick, Jon, Isabel and Jamie; 15 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00p.m and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 21 at 3:30 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant cemetery. No flowers by request, donations in her memory can be made to a charity of ones choice.

Branton, DIana Irene
BRANTON, Diana Irene (Squires) – November 15, 1960 - July 19, 2009. The heavens have recruited another nursing angel. After a long and well-fought battle with her loving family and cousin Lynn, also Agatha and Byron at her side. Diana has gone to continue her career with the angels. Diana has been reunited with her Mom and Dad, Dorothy (1992), Gilbert Squires (1971) and her sister Josephine (1973). Diana joined the angels on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Toronto East General Hospital. Diana will be lovingly remembered by her husband Larry; sons: Dylan, Tyler and Larry Jr. Loving brother Dane; mother and father-in-law Heber and Helena Branton; many cousins; sister and brother-in-law; neighbours and friends as well as her dog Skippy. Diana will also be missed by her many colleagues and friends of 20 years from Providence Villa Centre, especially the Palliative Care and Special Care Units. Diana’s friends remember her as a very dedicated nurse and wonderful friend. The family will welcome her friends, neighbors and colleagues at Carnell’s Funeral Home, Freshwater Road on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 9-12 a.m. followed by a service at St. Philip’s Anglican Church. Following the service, Diana will be laid to rest with her mom in the St. Philip’s Anglican cemetery in St. Philip’s. Diana’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff on H6 and G5 units for giving Diana such wonderful care. Special thank you to her Doctors Curran, Chisvim and C. Wong. Very special thanks to Lynn, special cousin and super friend for being there for us at this most difficult time. Flowers greatly accepted or donations in Diana’s memory may be made to the Huntington’s Society of Canada or the charity of your choice. 'To all the nights we’ll forever remember and to all the friends we’ll never forget!'

Cuff, A. Lloyd
Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, July 4, 2009, A. Lloyd Cuff of Bonavista, aged 79 years. Predeceased by his parents, Albert and Evangeline Cuff; brother, Eric Cuff; sister, Vivian Ryan and infant sister, Ruby; Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Rae; daughters, Beverly Gulliver (Wayne) of St. John’s, NL; Diane Cuff of Pickering, ON; grandchildren: Susanne Gulliver (Dennis), Julia Gulliver and Andrew Gulliver as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A family memorial was held on Sunday, July 5, 2009. A memorial service will be held at Bonavista on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from Memorial United Church, Bonavista with interment to follow at Lookout cemetery, Bonavista. Donations in Lloyd’s memory may be made to the Bonavista Historical Society or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
