Rose, Anita Pearl (Fiander) formally of Halifax and Coombs Cove, in her 92nd year, passed away peacefully, at Chancellor Park, St. John’s, NL, on Saturday, July 18, 2009. Predeceased by husbands Russell D. Rose (2005), and Wilson Shirley (1941). Leaving to mourn, brother, Otto Fiander, Coombs Cove, many nephews and nieces, especially Karen Driscoll (Robert), Pearl Blagdon, (Russell), and Russell Fiander. Resting at Carnells Funereal Home, 329 Freshwater Rd, St. John’s. Visitation Monday July 20th, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will take place Tuesday, July 21st at The Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road, with interment to follow in the Anglican cemetery, Forest Rd., St. John’s. Jones, Mary Alice (nee Whalen) - Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex on Saturday, July 18, 2009 aged 74 years. Predeceased by her husband Alexander, mother Gertrude, father James and brother Billy. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children, Robin (Regina), Lillian Fitzgerald, Doug, Joanne (Pat Dejonge), and Renee (Dean Lawlor); grandchildren Krista, Dennis, Susan, Kim, Doug Jr., Alexandra, Zoe, Kurtis, Zachary and Nathan; 8 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, James Jr. (Beth), Nora (Eric), Bridget (Cyril- deceased) Patrick, Joan (Marshall-deceased) Edward Jr.(Muriel) Benedict (Carol) and Richard (Anne); sister-in-law Bernice Clarke, special friends Margaret Finn and Mary Furlong, residing at Escasoni as well as a number of other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, from 10:00a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Monday July 20 and Tuesday July 21 and on Wednesday, July 22 from 10:00 a.m – 12 noon. Lawlor, Edward Joseph
Edward J. (Ned) Lawlor passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer, Edward (Ned) Lawlor of Paradise, age 65.Predeceased by his son David; parents Edward Sr. and Gertrude Lawlor; sister Mary (Alec) Jones and nephew Lewis Lawlor. Left with loving memories his son Edward, daughter-in-law and friend Brandy. His three grandchildren: the light of his life, grandson Alex, granddaughters Mackenzie (Miss) and Morgan. Also left to mourn Ned’s lifelong friend and Ed’s mom, Muriel Lawlor. Special sister and caregiver Bridget (Cyril, deceased) Coombs. Also left to mourn sisters Joan (Marshall, deceased) Rodgers and Nora (Eric) Sinclair. Brothers: Ben (Carol) Lawlor, Richard (Ann) Lawlor, Jim (Beth) Whalen, Pat (Shea) Whalen, as well as a long list of nieces, nephews and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 1045 Topsail Road. Alma Stella Hoffe: Passed peacefully away at the Masonic Park Nursing Home on August 1, 2009, Alma Stella Hoffe, formerly of Clarke’s Head, Gander Bay, aged 81 years. Predeceased by her husband Stanley; son-in-law Ernest Higgins; brother-in-law Douglas Batten. Leaving to mourn daughters: Eileen O’Keefe and Bride Higgins; sons: Glen (Linda) and Dennis ( Barb); thirteen beloved grandchildren; sixteen cherished great-grandchildren; sisters: Lorraine Batten and Katie Gillingham (Ivan); nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends; especially her dear friends Jean Gillingham and Audrey Edwards; also Ralph Lane, a very dear friend at Masonic Park Nursing Home. Words alone cannot express our deepest thanks for the loving care and dignity shown to our beloved mother in her final days by the truly dedicated, tireless staff of the Masonic Park Nursing Home. We are forever in their debt. At Alma’s request, cremation has taken place. Babb, Mac (Maxwell Lorne)
passed away peacefully, at his home, on Sunday morning, July 5, 2009. Born August 12th, 1943 on Bell Island, Mac was a well-known local entertainer and the consummate host to which many of his friends will attest. He played to many audiences across Canada, especially his former home in Ontario and his present home in Newfoundland. Mac is predeceased by his parents Eugene and Gladys, brothers Bill, Eugene and Tom (Fred), sisters Daphne, Enid, Greta, and Florence. He leaves to cherish — after their thirteen years of marriage — his loving wife Joan (Elliott), his daughters Nancy (Jerry) Byrne, Kathy (Mark) Chamney, son Bill (Julie) Babb and their mother Valerie along with stepchildren Myra (Danny) Dwyer, Emile (Regina) Elliott, and Marcel (Kyra) Elliott. Also leaving to mourn his brother John, sisters Joan (Elmer) Upshall, Ruth (Mike) Brown, and Rose (Carl) Hustins, as well as sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves his many nieces and nephews all of whom loved “Uncle Mac”and of course, his special “half a dozen cousins, ” and all his many friends near and far. Mac’s heart and home were always open to the many that knew and loved him. The voice is silent for now, but the memories of laughter and song, will now and always be our music. A celebration of his life is to be held at Carnell's Funeral Home with visitation 7-9 p.m. Monday, 2-4 pm and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday July 8, 2009. LeGrow, Grace (nee Pinhorn) - Passed peacefully away on July 10th, 2009 at age 85. Predeceased by her husband Wilson. Predeceased by husband Edward (2006) and daughter Norma (1978). Leaving to mourn son Ted (Lynn); daughters: Joan Butt (Walter) and Betty Sullivan (Kevin); eight grandchildren: Lindsay Nichols (Vincent), Caitlin Doyle (Adam), Jane Elisabeth Diamond, Kerry Butt (Joy), Valetta Hudson (Kerry), Kevin Sullivan (Roxanne), Shelley Sullivan (Andrew Harvey) and Derek Williams; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Minnie Burt, St. John’s; sister-in-law Marion Trickett, Brigus; son-in-law Herbert Williams; nieces, nephews and a number of other relatives and friends. Williams, Myrtle May (Miles)
Myrtle May Williams (Miles) 1926-2009. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Myrtle Williams, originally of Pool’s Cove, Fortune Bay and long time resident of Masonic Park, Mount Pearl, announce her passing at the Escasoni Complex on July 15, 2009, at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by her brother Howard (June 25, 2009). Left with fond and loving memories are her daughters: Beverley Janes (Colin), Bernice Cole and Betty, all of St. John’s. Also leaving to mourn sister Laura (St. Catharine’s, Ont.), brother Wilfred (Pool’s Cove); treasured grandchildren: Stephen (Sheryl) (Ottawa), Lori (Ottawa), Laura (Toronto), Michael (St. John’s); cherished great-grandchildren; Avery and Darcy (Ottawa), many dearly loved special nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the staff and residents of Ruby Manor for the kindness and care shown to Mom over the past year. As well, special thanks to the staff of Escasoni Complex for the compassion and kindness shown to Mom and the family during her final days. Peddle, William (Bill) James
PEDDLE, William (Bill) James, January 18, 1943 – July 14, 2009. Passed peacefully away after a valiant one-and-a-half-year battle against lung cancer, Bill Peddle, 66 years. Predeceased by his parents James Harris Peddle (1967) and Mildred (Wall) Peddle (2003); sister Iris (1977). Left to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 43 years, Heddy (Tode); two dear children of whom he was so very proud: daughter Kristine Griba in Calgary; son Stephen William (Kimberley J. Blanchard) in St. John’s; and four dearly beloved grandsons: Nicholas and Harrison Griba in Calgary; Josh and Luke Peddle in St. John’s. Also, sister Ruby (Byron Butler, deceased) and her family in Windsor, Ontario and other parts of the world; brother David (Wendy) and his family in St. John's and Carbonear; brother Raymond and his family in Nova Scotia; brother-in-law Lloyd Gunderson and his family in Selkirk, Manitoba; brother-in-law Wolf Tode (Nadine) and his family in London, Ontario, Halifax, and Minneapolis, Minnesota; and a wide circle of other relatives and friends. Bill's family gives thanks the wonderful care he received at the Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, from the very capable and compassionate Oncologists, Dr. J. Greenland (Radiation), Dr. S. Rorke (Medical), Dr. J. McCarthy (Medical), and their staffs, and including the staffs at the Radiation and Chemotherapy Units. Thanks also to the nursing staff at HSC 4NorthA, who helped make Bill's last days so much more comfortable and bearable both for him and his family. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday, August 3, 2009, from 7 - 9 pm. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Carnell's Chapel on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow. McDonald, Michael (Sonny)
McDonald, Michael (Sonny): passed away suddenly at his home on July 19, 2009, Michael (Sonny) McDonald age 77 years. Predeceased by his parents Patrick (Pop) and Lillian (Thompson) McDonald; step-mother Madeline McDonald; brothers: Harold (Howie), Patrick (Gug), James and Joseph; brother-in-law Gerald Fleming and his friend since boyhood days and brother-in-law Thomas Rice. Left to mourn his passing and grateful for having shared in his life are his sisters: Stella (Biddy) Fleming, Mary (Tuckel) Rice, Margaret Forward and her husband Bob who raced horses alongside Sonny at the racetrack in the Goulds back in the 60’s and 70’s; Anne Woodfine (Cecil), Patsy Quigley (Joey); brothers: William (Bill), John, Paul, Gus, Kevin (Carolyn), Donald (Ninny) (Wanda); sisters-in-law Madge McDonald, Madeline McDonald, Carol McDonald, Ruth McDonald (his Sunday companion who along with his sister Tuckel took him to the horse races these past two years); his nephew, friend and neighbor Jerry McDonald and a large circle of other nieces and nephews who made frequent visits to spend time with Sonny and enjoy his unique humor and stories about years gone by and his days of racing horses, as well as a large number of great nieces and nephews.
