Neary, Paul Joseph 1922-2010 – Passed peacefully away at ChancellorPark on Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the presence of his loving family, Paul Neary, formerly of Portugal Cove. Leaving to remember him are his loving wife Alma; his children: Ron (Sandra), Brenda Bowen (Don), Chris (Grace), Anastasia Day (Derrick), Paul (Linda Chafe) and Edward (Samantha); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two loving sisters: Joan Sitter Haas, Tolland, CT. and Deloris Kearney, Roswell, GA.; brother Joseph Sitter, Penobscot, ME.; as well as a number of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the Physicians and Nursing Staff at ChancellorPark for their wonderful care of Dad. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and from 10-12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 28th, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. from Mary Queen of Peace, Torbay Road. Interment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Ayre, Anthony Green
Ayre, Anthony Green, Lt. Cmdr R.C.N. (R), (Ret.) : Peacefully passed away at the Caribou Memorial Pavilion, Miller Centre September 25th, 2010, Anthony (Tony) Green-Ayre aged 93 years. Tony was born in St. John’s, N.L and was a farmer, a naval Reserve Officer throughout World War II and a successful businessman thereafter. He was a lifelong parishioner of The Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, St. John’s and a long time active member of the Last Post Fund and the Crows Nest Officers Club. Predeceased by his parents, Carlotta (nee Glassey) and James Green, his step-father, Hon. Charles Pascoe Ayre, and long time friend and business associate Thomas J. Byrne. Survived by long time friends, Gary and Karon Kelly of Holyrood, N.L and cousin, Mary Glassey of Lockington, Yorkshire, U.K, and other relatives also in Yorkshire. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, Tuesday 10–noon, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service to be held Wednesday September 29th, 2010 at 2:30 pm from The Anglican Cathedral with interment to follow in the AnglicanCemetery, Kenmount Road. Sharpe, Thelma Rachel (Mitchell) - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 in her 79th year. Wife of Jim Sharpe, loving mother of Lillian, Jennie and husband Les, Doug and wife Sandie, Charlie. Grandmother and Great-grandmother. Also remembered by the Sharpe family, Ann Marie (daughter-in-law), Cavell and family. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A private interment will take place at the AnglicanCemetery, Forest Road at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 27, 2010.
Kelsey, Veronica Sylvia (Luscombe)
February 17th, 1931 - September 23, 2010. Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on September 23rd, 2010 surrounded by her loving family, Sylvia Kelsey, aged 79 years. Predeceased by parents John Payne and Clara Luscombe, brother Jack F. Luscombe, her former husband Douglas R. Kelsey and friends Beth Burke and Marguerite Pelley. Leaving to mourn children: Douglas J. (Ginette Louth), Kimberley (Albert Dunphy) and Christopher; siblings: Agnes (Ed) Richards, Marjorie Reid and William (Vicki) Luscombe; grandchildren: Shannon M. Kelsey and Alexander Dunphy, as well as a wide circle of cherished friends including Lorraine Laite, Iris Ford, Joan Barron, Art and Kay Escott, Edie and Charl Phillips, June Titford and Jean Kelsey. Sylvia had an enduring faith in her church and placed great importance on respecting others and treating people kindly, often putting others ahead of herself, especially her children. Sylvia was an avid member of the cathedral choir and faithfully listened to her hymns on VOWR radio Sunday evenings. Sylvia attended Bishop Spencer College and spent many years happily typing out reports and letters as a medical stenographer at The S.A. Grace General Hospital and The Medical consultants practice. The family wishes to thank the kindness and professionalism of the medical staff in the Emergency and 7th floor East departments of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in St. John's. At Sylvia's request cremation has taken place. Sparkes, Moira McCabe
SPARKES, MOIRA McCABE: Passed peacefully away on September 18th, 2010 at the Health Sciences Complex, a Scottish War Bride. She was 87 years old. Moira McCabe married Bob Sparkes, a Submariner with the Royal Navy during WWII in Dundee, Scotland on November 11th, 1944. She sailed to St. John~s in 1946 with a lot of other anxious war brides who were to reunite with their husbands and start a new life in a totally new world. Moira and Bob had seven children in St. John~s: Ian (Mary) Elaine (Dick Brown) Bobby (Pierrette) Moira (Larry Boyd) Susan (Fred Bowdring, deceased) Sandy (Joyce, deceased) and Stephen. Moira~s husband Bob died in 1986 but she continued to enjoy eighteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is survived by a great number of nieces, nephews and countless special friends who never cease to speak very fondly of her great zest for life and boundless energy. Visitation at Carnell~s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, September 22nd from 10-12 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Mass to take place at St. Theresa~s Church, Mundy Pond Road on Thursday, September 23rd at 10:00 am. Committal service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery following Mass. Dyke, Joan Elizabeth
Our lovely Auntie Joan passed away Sept. 17, 2010 in her 81st year. Predeceased by her parents Isaac and Alice Dyke, brother Frank Dyke, and sister-in-law Marina Dyke.
Left with wonderful memories are her brother Wilfred, sister-in-law Mary Dyke, nieces and nephews: Jeff (Carol), Jennifer (Craig Matthews), Joanne (Blair Loveless), Carol (Gerry Taylor), Frank (Karen), Joan (Don Zinn), Rosalind (Ed Kendell), and Sharon (David Norman), their families, and many close friends near and far.
Joan was a prominent member of the travel industry for over 40 years beginning with Trans-Canada Airlines in the 1950’s, working in Canada and the USA. Her airline career was followed by lengthy service in several travel agencies in St. John’s where her knowledge of world travel, her polite manner and commitment to her clients earned her a vast following of loyal clients.
At Joan’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. Her friends may join the family at an informal Reception of Remembrance at the Ramada Hotel, Kenmount Road, Wednesday evening, Sept. 22nd, from 6:30 – 9:30pm. Donations in her memory may be made to Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Riding Program.

Predeceased by baby boy: Robert Best; parents: Fredrick and Rebecca (nee Moss) Wills; brothers: Gordon, Douglas and Angus and sister: Lillian Genge. Leaving to mourn with fond memories, loving husband of 55 years, Donald James Best; daughters: Vickie Dawe (Randy), Beverly Bussey (Jack), Yvette Best (Tony) and Yvonne White (Darrell); ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Predeceased by his wife Margaret and daughters; Sharon, Peggy and precious baby girl.
