THORNE, Margaret (Mitchell): March 14, 1928 – May 5, 2011: Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family on May 5, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre, Marg Thorne of Portugal Cove, aged 83 years. Left with fond and loving memories her daughters: Yvonne Butler (Keith) with whom she resided and their children: Brian, Allison and Stephen; Linda Mitchell (Neil) and their children: Melissa (Eddy) and Megan; Mary Burt (Aubrey) and their children: Melanie (Drew), Shawn (Michelle), Mitchel (Kim) and Leanne (John); sons: Herb (Theresa) and their children: Natasha and Ashley; Sheldon and his children: Samantha, Brandon and their mother Karen; seven great-grandchildren: Sara, Carter, Madison, Nolan, Bryce, Nicholas and Grady; sister, Flora Churchill (Ambrose) and sister-in-law, Marie Mitchell as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends especially Laura Whelan and Rodney Squires. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 12 noon to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, May 8, 2011 from 10 a.m.– 9 p.m. Funeral service to take place from St. Lawrence Anglican Church, Portugal Cove on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at St. Lawrence Anglican Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Marg’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Carberry, Audrey Elizabeth
Carberry, Audrey E. – Passed away peacefully on May 12, 2011, in her 88th year, Audrey Carberry (nee Brown). Predeceased by her husband, Fred Carberry; brothers: Doug and Carl Brown; sister Daphne Earl, niece Heather Dawe, and nephew Reg Brown. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sister Barbara Dawe (Jim); sisters-in-law Faye Brown, Hilson Darkenwald and Joyce Carberry. Also leaving to mourn nieces: Gill Brown, Arlene Brown, Susan Clay, Janice Ford, Jane Simmons, and nephews Ken Brown and Doug Dawe; as well as many long time friends. Cremation has already taken place. Funeral service to take place on Friday, May 20th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Rd. In Audrey’s memory donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

CLARKE, Catherine Forbes (nee Moore)- Passed peacefully away at her residence on Friday, May 13, 2011. Catherine Forbes Clarke, aged 89 years. Predeceased by husband Richard Clarke (1987); two brothers: William Moore and Hugh Moore. Leaving to celebrate her life are her daughter Elizabeth Lane (Edward); loving granddaughters: Leanne Lane (Paul Kavanagh) and Sheri Lane; two loving sisters-in-law: Edna Moore and Madge Moore in Northern Ireland; nephew Blair Clarke, also other nieces, nephews and other friends residing in Northern Ireland and Newfoundland. Special thanks to the Hann and Decker families for their never ending love and support. Also a warm thank you to Dr. Amanda Scott and her home care worker, Cynthia for their care and support. Cremation has taken place at Catherine’s request. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 10-4 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. from St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Westerland Road. Fifield, Edward Patrick (Rick): Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Saturday, May 14, 2011, Rick Fifield of Paradise. Left with cherished memories, his wife Paula (Baker); sons: Michael (Nancy Dewling) and Peter; daughter, Catherine (Dave Baker), Sisters; Jeanne (Dave Stead), Angela (Rogers Barnes); brothers: Greg (Madeline), Paul (Roxanne); sisters-in-law-: Heather (Bruce Saunders), Joanne Fifield; brother in law, Rick Baker (Cathy Brett); father-in-law: Rod Baker (Lois), Special Friend: Frances Carte, and a large number of relatives and friends. Predeceased by his Parents: William (Bud) & Angela Fifield, Brother: Robert and Nephews: David, Christopher and Leo Stead; Mother-in-law, Amelia Baker. Cremation has taken place and at Rick’s request there will be no funeral service. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday, May 16 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, May 17 from 10 a.m. -9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a future time. Predeceased by her first husband William Sheppard; second husband, Canon Emanuel Willis; parents: Arthur and Annie Hall; brother, Albert Hall and sister, Stacia Hounsell. Leaving to mourn nieces, Ruth Tulk (Claude) and Shirley Skanes (Ted); grand nieces: Pauline Babstock (Fred), Ruby Gates (Bob), Kathy Rowe (Bruce), Donna Barker (Steve) and Claudette Tulk; grand nephews: Keith Skanes (Lillianne), Russell Skanes, Bort Skanes (Yvonne), Marty Hounsell (Kayo) and Chris Hounsell; eleven great-grandnieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends at Elizabeth Towers and Tiffany Village. Wells, Gertrude Joan
Passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, Gertrude Wells aged 75 years. Predeceased by husband, Jim. Leaving to mourn daughters: Jane (Mark Bursey) and Judy (Fraser) Davidson; three precious grandchildren: Ellen and Ted Bursey and Selina Davidson. Gertrude also leaves to mourn her sister, Margaret (Peter Templeton) and sister-in-law, Ruth Dawe; as well as other relatives and friends. The Wells family is grateful for the care provided to Mom by her many health care providers. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kenny’s Pond Retirement Residence and for the exceptional care she received during her stay at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit. The family will receive visitors at the Bowring Park Bungalow on Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place from St. James United Church on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex, Ralph Joseph Carroll, aged 78 years. Predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Carroll. Leaving to mourn loving wife Patricia (nee O’Neill); son William (Lucy), Richmond Hill, ON; three stepdaughters: Debbie Power (Albert), Conche, NL, Kelly Ree (Dave), Barrie, ON, Tracy Spencer, St. John’s, NL; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson; five sisters: Mercedes Jackman, Laboura Whelan, Mariella Kearney, Hilda Symmonds and Regina Carroll; two brothers: Aidan Carroll and Wilbert Carroll; a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family on June 19, 2011 at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Eldon Baker, aged 70 years. Predeceased by his parents Hardy and Clara; brothers: Ward and George. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 49 years, Laura; children: Craig (Maureen), Bob (Cathy), Chris (May) and Lisa (Noel); six grandchildren: Tyler, Bradley, Sarah, Adam, Joshua and Mia; two brothers as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim will be sadly missed by his co-workers and golfing buddies at the Bank of Nova Scotia. At Jim’s request, cremation has taken place.
