Blair, Norval

Blair, Norval R. With deep regret and profound sadness we announce the passing of our father and friend Norval Russell Blair on June 12, 2011 at St. Claire’s Mercy Hospital. Born May 26, 1931 in Stellarton Nova Scotia, life-long resident of St. John’s Newfoundland. Predeceased by wife Eleanor (Sharpe) (2000), parents Olive and Frederick Blair, sister Olive and son-in-law Wesley Paul. Leaving to mourn his children; Gail (Antonio) Simoes Re, Anne Campbell (Malcolm), Wendy Paul and Fred (Suzanne). Special friend Andree Thoms, sister Peg Brookbank (Jim Murdoch) and brother Dale (Shirley). Grandchildren; Xandre, Tasha and Andre Simoes Re, Laura and Kyle Campbell, Stacy and Amy Paul, Fraser, Andrea, Jason and James Blair; His beloved pet and companion Benji. Also leaving to mourn brother-in-law Dr. Edward Sharpe (Linda); sisters-in-law: Patricia Russell (Paul), Irene Normandin (Aram), Jill Parker (Jay) and Noreen Sharpe. As well as a large circle of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday and Wednesday June 14 and 15, 2011 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. Funeral Service to take place from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (The Kirk) on Thursday June 16, 2011 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Norval’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Eaton, Irene M.

EATON, Irene Madonna (nee Murray) – Passed peacefully away after a short illness at the Health Sciences Centre June 10, 2011, Irene Eaton, aged 61 years. Predeceased by her brother, Bernard (1981); nephew, Brian (1991); and first husband, Frank Mouland (1983). Left with fond and loving memories, her husband and best friend, Fraser; son, Alan Mouland; stepsons: Geoff (Karen) and Dennis (Shelley) Eaton; five precious grandchildren: Campbell, Adia, Mira, Kaylee and Kane; sisters: Marie Sanford, Agnes Billings (John), Kay Walsh (Clem) and Bride Leonard; brother, John Murray (Geralyn); sisters-in-law: Janet O’Dea (John), Deb Trickett (David) and Robyn Eaton (Frank DeMont); brothers-in-law: Sandy (Darlene) and David (Evelyn) Eaton. Also remembering her are members of the Mouland family: Elizabeth Mouland, Cheryl Mulholland, Wayne Mouland and their families as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a large circle of beloved friends and neighbors. Cremation has taken place at Irene’s request. Visitation to take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held from St. Patrick’s Parish, Patrick Street, Tuesday June 14, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Epilepsy Newfoundland and Labrador, Young Adult Cancer Canada or to the charity of one’s choice.

Kutty, Dr. K.M.

KUTTY, Dr. K. M. – Passed peacefully away the Health Sciences Centre on June 9, 2011. Leaving to mourn his wife, Yamuna; son, Shyam (Adriana); daughter, Sheila; grandchildren: Daniel and Maria Del Mar; sister, Sarojini; brother-in-law, Ravi and family; niece, nephews as well as a large circle of colleagues and other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday June 11, 2011 from 1:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. Service and cremation will take place from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.

Gosse, John "Dick"

John Joseph “Dick” Gosse aged 65: Passed peacefully away on June 5, 2011 at the Health Science Centre surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents John and Winnifred and his two sisters. Leaving to mourn with loving memories wife of 45 years Phyllis Gosse (Taylor), six children: John (Sharon), Craig (Synika), Jill, Miranda “Mandy”, Susan (John), and Leona (Blair). Also leaving fourteen precious grandchildren whom he adored Craig, Robyn, Alexis, Jorja, Brayden, Robert, Jude, Johanna, Bianca, Dylan (Poppy’s Buddy), Olivia, Jonathan, Riley and Kiya. Also leaving to mourn seven brothers and two sisters along with a large number of family and friends. Family would like to express sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of CCU and CVICU. Cremation has taken place. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Rd on Monday June 6, 2011 from 10 a.m. till 9 p.m. with Service from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Tuesday June 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in John’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Hodder, Jacob Carl

Passed peacefully away on July 4, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre, Jacob Carl Hodder, aged 82 years. Predeceased by his first wife, Carrie (1994) and parents, Allan and Stella Hodder. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Ethel; brother, Ray (Verenia); Ethel’s children: Lynn (Bruce), Scott (Dale), Barry and Craig (Stella) as well as eight grandchildren; brothers-in-law: John Clarke (Katie) of Carbonear and Wayne Parsons (Kathy) and the Parsons family; also leaving to mourn a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jacob was a lifetime member of the Masonic Temple. At Jacob’s request cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place from the Anglican Cathedral on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Jacob’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Fleming, Gordon

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Gordie Fleming announce his passing on Saturday July 2, 2011 at Health Sciences Centre age 46 years. Predeceased by his father Gerald Fleming (1988); Mother Stella Fleming (2011) and Brother James (1968). Leaving with great memories of a life well lived are his Brothers: David Fleming, Rick Fleming, Gary Fleming, Fr. Mick; Sisters Patsy Brown (Glenn), Judy Peddle (William), Rhonda Peet (Rick), MaryAnn Fleming (Steve), Pamela Parsons (Brad). Best Buddies Tyler Holwell and Todd Wheeler. Special friend and co-worker Cecil Warford. And also, his co-workers at Northwest Taxi. Gordie will also be missed by many of his nieces and nephews as well as aunts and uncles and other family members and friends. Gordie’s passion was race horses. He came by that honestly, and grew up around horses all his life as his grandfather Patrick McDonald, and father, Gerald, were pioneers in horse racing in the early 50’s along with the Forward family. Over the many years of racing, Gordie won numerous awards such as Top UDRS Trainer, Most Improved Driver, Fastest winning time with PH Tornado, Driver of the Year for starts in 2010, The Dave McRoberts Memorial award for passion for the sport along with his brother Gary, and he was so proud of them all. Also left with great memories together is his cousin Greg Rice and his barn buddies with whom he spent many hours talking about and looking after his horses. He was also the recipient of a Citizens Involvement Award from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary. Gordie was a giving person in life which continued even after his death as an organ donor. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd on Monday July 4th 2 p m-9 p.m. and Tuesday July 5th from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Gordie’s Brother, Fr. Mick Fleming, will conduct the Funeral Mass at St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Mundy Pond Road on Wednesday, July 6th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Topsail Road. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Ryan, Madeline Theresa

RYAN, Madeline: Passed peacefully away at home on July 2, 2011. Predeceased by her parents, James and Elizabeth (Dawson) Ryan; brothers, Jim and Ron; sister, Patricia. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories son, Gerald and daughter, Judith; grandchildren: Rodney Sheppard, Jennifer, Jessica and Carl Ryan; great-grandchild, Sienna; sisters: Elizabeth Dion (George), Linda Ryan (Paul), Ann Seguin (George); brothers: Harold Ryan (Rita), John Ryan (Carolann); sister-in-law, Violet Ryan and brother-in-law, James Legresley as well as many other nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. Special thanks to Lillian Wilson and Sandra and Harry Slade for their countless acts of kindness. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Wednesday, July 6 from 2-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa’s Parish. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Au, Donald

Aged 59 years; Passed away on July 1st, 2011 surrounded by his brothers and sister. He will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his twin brother, Ronald; Sister May (Cunningham) and brother, Frank (Linda Au). Leaving to mourn his nieces: Jewel (Randy Power) and Lynne Cunningham, Debbie Preston (David); Nephew, Terry Au; and great nephews, Russell and Evan Power and Thomas and Ethan Preston. Predeceased by his parents, Au Hion Sewy and Au Fong Pik Ngor; also, his brother-in-law, David Cunningham. The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Sunday, July 3rd, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm; Monday, July 4th, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and Tuesday, July 5, from 2-4 pm. Funeral Service will be graveside at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10 am.
