CASE, James Bertram: Passed peacefully away on September 27, 2011 at the Agnes Pratt Nursing Home, Bert Case, aged 85 years. Leaving to mourn his wife Lulu-Yvonne (Bessey) R.N.; his children: Pamela Jean Cooper (William Spears), James Bertram Jr. (Cindy), George Douglas (Rosalie); his loving grandchildren: Emily, Joshua, Christopher, Stephen and Julia; sisters: Florence (Grand Haven Michigan), Barbara (Rochelle Illinois). Also leaving to mourn nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. At Bert’s request, cremation has taken place. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater road on /Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 10-12, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations in Bert’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Singing Legionnaires.

Dicks, Evelyn Pearl

DICKS, Evelyn P. (nee Thorne): Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at Hoyles Escasoni Complex on September 26, 2011, Evelyn Dicks, age 84 years. Predeceased by her sisters Floretta Pender, Emily Maude Branton, Louise Hatcher, Jeannette Rabun, Doris Thorne and brother Robert Thorne. Leaving to mourn her loving husband of 61 years, Eric; her children: Rick (Beverly), Robert (Elizabeth), Ramsay (Christina), Russell (Valerie) and Rhonda Mitchell (Adrian); sister, Elizabeth Miller; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; special friend, Elaine Dicks and also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends may visit the family at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Lawrence Anglican Church. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Bauline Line. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of one’s choice.

Miller, Chancey Jessica Louise

MILLER, Chancey Jessica Louise (March 15, 2008 – September 24, 2011): Passed suddenly away on September 24, 2011, Chancey Miller, aged 3 years. Predeceased by her brother, Joseph Miller. Left with fond and loving memories her parents, William & Maryann Miller; brothers: Billy and Joshua; sisters: Nicole, Karen and Stephanie; grandmother, Phyllis Manning and special great aunt Linda Sullivan as well as a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral service to be held from Cochrane Street United Church on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Chancey Miller Fund.
Forever Cherished In Our Hearts

Fiander, E. Frances

Passed away at Glenbrook Lodge on September 24, 2011, Frances Fiander (nee Fifield). Predeceased by her beloved husband Claude on January 23, 1994. Frances was born and raised in Trinity East to Rachel and Alfred Fifield. Frances is leaving behind a life time of beautiful memories of family gatherings, lots of love and laughter. She will always be treasured and missed by her three daughters: Claudia Shortall (Brian); Elizabeth Woodrow (Joseph); and Rhonda Fiander. Her grandchildren: Rebecca Woodrow (Greg Beale); Sandra Lynn Shortall ( Andrew Thompson); Adam Woodrow (Lynnette); Jo-Anne (Shortall) Ballantyne (Peter); Claude Locke; William Shortall (Melissa Hutt); Sylvia Locke (Steve Nugent) and Andrew Locke will carry forward the rich legacy of shared times with their grandmother. In her later year’s thought about and visits with her great-grandchildren always brought a smile to her face and joy to her heart: Matthew and Andrew Woodrow; Thomas Shortall; Iris Thompson and William Ballantyne. She was expecting with great joy and anticipation the arrival of three more great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her loss is her dear sister Ada Mantle, many nieces, nephews and her very special friends Joan James and Elaine Yetman. The family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinary care and devotion given to Frances during her stay at Glenbrook Lodge by Dr. Andrew Mckim and the staff. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Frances’ memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Glenbrook Lodge. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd onSunday September 25th, 2011 from 7:00pm-9:00pm and Monday September 26, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Christian Celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday September 27, 2011 from the Carnell Memorial Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant, Field of Honor.

Passed peacefully away on September 24th, 2011 at The L.A. Miller Center surrounded by her loving family Jean Thorne aged 58 years. Predeceased by her mother Ethel and sister Brenda.Leaving to mourn her loving children, Jennifer, Nancy(Mike Miller), Lisa(Robert Gillard), Anthony and Shannon, her father Gerald Miller, brothers Gerry(Bernice), Barry and Glen, sister Linda(Bob)grandchildren Sammy, Katie, Noah, Joshua, Kaleb and Mattie, step-son Chris(Shelley)and step-grandchildren Choloe and Ryan.Also leaving to mourn a large circle of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.At Jean’s request there will be no visitation.Funeral service to take place from St. Lawrence Anglican Church Portugal Cove on Tuesday September 27th, 2011 at 2:00pm with interment to follow at The Anglican Cemetery Bauline Line.No flowers by request and donations in Jean’s memory may be made to The Dr. H. Lukins, Vera Maisie (nee Small) - Passed peacefully away at Hoyles Escasoni Home, St. John’s on Saturday Oct 8, aged 92 years, Vera was originally from Summerford, Notre Dame Bay. Predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Frederick J. Lukins and brothers Lloyd, Elmo and Edmund. Left to mourn with loving memories; three cherished children: Carol (Charlie), Sheilagh (Leonard), John (Sheilah); five grandchildren whom she adored: Susan (Chris), Charles, David (Vanessa), Jonathan (Carter) and Crystal; six precious great grandchildren: Ava, Mia, Keira, Makayla, Nathaniel and Chance; sister-in-law, Sarah Small, a large number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Elizabeth Towers and Hoyles Escasoni Complex for their kindness and compassion shown to their mother during her stay. Andrews (Cheeseman), Anne T (nee Snow) – Passed peacefully away at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck NS on October 9, 2011 Anne Andrews (Cheeseman), age 84 years. Predeceased by her first husband Bertram F. Andrews (1977) and her second husband James E. Cheeseman (1989). Left with fond and loving memories her daughter Karolyn Genge (Dr. Roland), Baddeck NS; son Robert (Diana); grandchildren R.J. Genge (Jill), Tracy Wells (David O’Toole), Scott Wells (Stephanie), Cathy Genge (Andrew Creighton), Adam Genge (Ed Ziolo), Dr. Leah Genge (Elliott Thorpe), Mark Andrews (Natasha), Ian Andrews (Allison Fox), Colin Andrews special friend Jennifer Saunders, Robyn Andrews; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Bob Snow (Elizabeth); sisters-in-law Leona Snow, Ruth Tavenor and Bertha Andrews; brother-in-law Roy Andrews (Clara); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Anne was very active in the community as a member of the IODE and numerous charities. She was also an avid curler and executive member of the St. John’s Curling Club, the Canadian Ladies Curling Association and took great pleasure in representing Canada on a Senior Ladies Curling Tour of both Canada and Scotland. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Friday, October 14 from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Field of Honour. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Riding Program 103 Mount Scio, St. John’s, NL A1B 4E8 or a charity of one’s choice.
