HERRIDGE, Winnie: Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on January 16, 2012 surrounded by her loving family Winnie Herridge, aged 89 years. Predeceased by her husband, Myril (2005). Left with fond and loving memories sons: Roland (Maisie) and Arch (Heather); grandchildren: Roger, Lisa, Paula (Andrew), Lesley (Douglas), Greg (Jennifer); one great-grandson, Ethan; sister, Biney; brother, Archie (Winnie); also leaving to mourn a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends as well as special nephew, Scottie. PYE, Joan Lorraine (nee Sheppard) 1932-2012: Passed peacefully away on January 18, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her parents David and Emma House. Left with fond and loving memories her husband of 57 years, Bert; son, Owen (Sharon); daughters: Debbie (Ben), Arlene (Tom) and Lisa (Glen); grandchildren: Michael, Leanne, Emma, Samantha, Renee and Taylor as well as a large circle of family and friends. Matthews, Donald James
MATTHEWS, Donald James -- Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the age of 75 in the presence of his family. Formerly of Brownsdale, Trinity Bay and currently residing in St. John's. Survived by his wife Lorraine (Austin) and leaving her with 54 years of happy memories. Cherishing his life, are their four children: Don (Sharon), Raymond (Arlene), Glenys (Shawn) and Carolyn; his grandchildren who provided him with much joy Jamie, Jennifer, Michael, Tim, Robyn, Daniel, Erin, Alex and Cassandra; his great-grandchildren who he thought the world of and enjoyed their antics, Julia and Brooklyn. Predeceased by his mom and dad and sister Elsie and survived by sisters Olive and Marion. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Don retired from the Federal Government after working 35 years as a radio operator and inspector on land and sea. He was blessed with 20 years of happy retirement and enjoyed his many trips down south among his good friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Friday and Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Cremation to follow. No flowers by request. SPARROW, Peggy (nee Noël) – Passed peacefully away on January 20, 2012 at the Hoyle’s Escasoni Complex with her loving husband Joe by her side. Peggy Sparrow aged 76 years. Predeceased by parents Neil and Mary Noël; sisters: Marquita Dunphy (Jack), Simone Campbell Campbell (Mac); brothers: Valmore Noël (Mary), Emelian Noël (Nora), all of Corner Brook; brother-in-law, Noel Sparrow; sister-in-law, Mary Galway (Edward); brother-in-law, James (Jim) Walsh. Left to mourn her husband of 54 years, Joe; children: Viki (Randy Perry), Stephen and Robert (Paula); 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of West 1 at the Hoyle’s Complex for the special care shown to Peggy during the stay there. Passed peacefully away on January 21, 2012 at the Health Science Complex with his loving family by his side. Paul Austin aged 54 years. Predeceased by his parents Hal and Pat. Left to mourn brothers: Harold (Jo); Ric, Peter (Karen) and Jody. Sisters Jane Peddle and Pat. Also leaving to mourn a number of nieces and a nephew as well as a large circle of very close friends especially his cherished friend Bob Haskell. At Paul’s request cremation has taken place. COOK, RUBY: Ruby passed away at 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012 in her 66th year. Leaving to mourn is her husband, Dick of 33 years and daughter, Lisa; her son, Andrew Peters with wife Miya, daughter Lauren and son William; sisters: Betty (Norman-deceased) Kennedy, Isabelle (Tony) Jones and Jeanette (Gordon) Wilkins; her “other family” members: Stuart, Heather and Brittany Cook; Betty (Chico) Williams and Marie (Gordon) Morgan-Walsh; as well as special friends: Lynette Fischer and Bernadette Byrne. Thanks to the staff (her girls) of Winterholme; her many, many bridge partners; the staff of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic, 5 South B of the HSC, the Palliative Care Unit at the Miller Centre and Rev. Gordon White and his wife Ruby as well as Dr. Rosann Seviour; her many friends and regular guests of Winterholme whom she has enriched with her pleasant manner, her million dollar smile and her famous home-made bread. Cremation has taken place under the care of Carnell's Funeral Home with a private Christian Service to follow. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 35 years, Deborah (Bursey); daughter Amanda and son Steven; two beloved granddaughters: Alicia and Shelby; sisters: Agnes Burke, Boston, Mass., Joyce Lewis (Wayne), Kingston, Ont., Sandra Fowlow (Mardon), Guelph, Ont., Laura Hennessey (Chris), Torbay, Deborah Penton (Leonard) and Linda Clarke of St. John’s; brothers: Derrick (Karen), Paradise, Eugene (Jocelyn), P.E.I. and William of St. John’s; two brothers-in-law: Douglas Bursey (Marion), Mt. Pearl and David Bursey (Donna), St. John’s. Also leaving to mourn nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place.
