Ash, Malchus (Mac)

ASH, Malchus (Mac) – of Hant’s Harbour, passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the Palliative Care Unit of the L.A. Miller Centre on Monday January 24, 2012. Malchus “Mac” Ash aged 77 years will always be known for his great sense of humour and was a retired member of the Canadian Coast Guard. Predeceased by his parents, Moses and Mary Jane Ash; brothers: Henry and Ed. Leaving to mourn, his devoted wife, Mary (nee Neary); children: Maureen (Roy Burry); and Todd (Kelly); special grandson, Cody Ash; brothers: Justin (Maggie) and James (Linda); sisters-in-law, Betty Ash, Eileen Squires (Ed), Barb Snow (Greg), and Emily Neary; brothers-in-law: Francis Neary (Linda), Jim Neary (Pat) and Don Neary; along with many nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Mac Blundon, Barb Snow, Bun and Jerome Neary, the staff at the Health Sciences Centre 5 south B and Palliative Care team, your kindness and care will never be forgotten. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Thursday January 26, 2012 at 2:00. with interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Portgual Cove. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mac’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Society Newfoundland & Labrador.

Grant, Margaret Hannah

GRANT, Margaret Hannah (nee Gallery): Passed peacefully away on January 25, 2012 in the presence of her three loving daughters, Margaret Grant, age 87 years. Margaret was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. She served as a proud member of the British Royal Navy during World War II. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. George Grant. Left with fond memories her daughters: Alison Powell (Don), Gillian Grant (Gerry Donovan) and Fiona Grant (Bruce Sheppard); two grandchildren: Alexandra Grant and Callum Donovan; extended family (Alison and Don’s Girls): Sari and Kati Piros. At Margaret’s request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at 4 Inverness Place on Saturday, January 28 from 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Margaret’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

MacNab, Marjorie

MacNab – Marjorie Paterson (nee Cheshire): It is with great sadness that the family of Marjorie MacNab announces her death on January 25, 2012 at the age of 91. Born in Birkenhead, England in 1920 Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1990. Lovingly remembered by her sister Anne Allum, and her extended family in England, son Gordon (Eileen) and her daughters, Jacqueline, Carol (Bill Matthews) and Suzanne (Paul Conway), all of St. John’s; grandchildren Ashley MacNab (Rod Walsh), Alex MacNab (Rodrigo Sala), Vic MacNab (Christina Winter), Jane Matthews, Sarah Matthews (Pascal Milord), Daniel Matthews, Dennis Conway (Susanne Gulliver), Michael Conway (Pamela Pike); great-grandchildren Kate and James Walsh, Claire MacNab, Havie and Genevieve Carter, Sebby and Andy Milord and Lloyd Conway. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted to Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road where friends are welcome to visit on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Little, Rachel "Rita"

LITTLE, Rachel "Rita" (nee Green): 1919-2012. Passed peacefully away on January 26, 2012 in the presence of her loving family. Rita resided at St. Luke's Home, was formerly of Upper Amherst Cove and Hant's Harbour. Predeceased by husband Aubrey in 1979, sister Violet Strickland, brother Eugene Green, and son-in-law Sam Wellon. Left to celebrate her life with wonderful memories her six daughters; Joan (Bob Pavlovicz), Dora (George Andrews), Shirley (Don Drodge), Ada (Phil Hollett), Vina (Charlie Barker), and Marilyn (George Savoury), 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. As well as sister Pearl Loder, brother-in-law Albert Little, sisters-in-law Blanche Eastman, Gladys Cole, Gertie Short, and Inez Little, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the staff at St. Luke's Homes for her care and comfort, and to the staff at St. Clare's Hospital. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation is on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 2-4pm and 7--9 pm. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm, Sunday January 29, 2012 at St. Nicholas Anglican Church, Amherst Cove, Bonavista Bay. In lieu of flowers a donation in her memory may be made to St. Luke's Home.

Trickett, William Hubert

Trickett, William Hubert - Passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26th, 2012, William Hubert (Bill) Trickett at Carbonear General Hospital, in his 86th year. He was at the time a resident of Collingwood Downs Personal Care Home in Clarke's Beach where he and his wife Emmie moved in 2008. He was born and spent most of his younger years in Trinity, Trinity Bay. As a young man he loved walking the barrens and enjoyed the ocean and boats. He always spoke fondly of his boyhood days in Trinity. He met Emily (Emmie) Hancock in St. John's where they married in 1946, settled and raised their family. Bill worked at the Commercial Cable Company in St. John’s until it closed operations in 1961. In 1964 he attended the College of Trades and Technology to study electronics and upon graduation joined the staff of the College where he remained as an instructor until his retirement. He and Emmie spent their retirement years in Foxtrap, Conception Bay making the occasional trip across Canada to visit his sons and their families in Alberta. Throughout his life Bill had a special love for animals and spent many hours each day with his beloved dogs. He is predeceased by his wife Emmie, sisters: Vera Bursey, Ruby Coates, Minnie Ewing (Millar), and much loved grandson Jeffrey Trickett of Calgary. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his two sons William Trickett (Christine) and Victor Trickett (Brenda) both of Calgary; and his daughter Linda Somerton. Also missing him are his grandchildren, Andrew Barnes (Andrea), Jennifer (Kyle Forster) of California, Matthew Barnes (April), Jeremy Trickett of Toronto, Kate Somerton (John), Leigh and Christopher Trickett of Red Deer, Alberta, two great-grandchildren, Margaret (Maggie) Walsh of Fox Creek, Alberta, and McKinley Barnes and a large number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Emergency Room at Carbonear General Hospital, and the management and staff of Collingwood Downs Personal Care Home especially Claudine, Paula, Alberta and Mary. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road, with reception to follow. Interment to take place at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Collins nee Henderson, Patricia Ruth Anne

Passed away after a courageous battle at L.A Miller Centre on January 26, 2012 Patricia Ruth Anne Collins nee Henderson. Predeceased by her son Raymond along with her brother Stanley. Leaving with special memories her two daughters: Anne-Marie (Rob) Pike and Grace Collins. Special thanks to Vera Malek for her support and generosity. Nan to granddaughters Becky and Nicole. Also leaving sister Karen and special sister in law Diane, along with a number of other relatives and friends. Missed by volunteers at the Health Science Centre as well as Dr. H Bliss Cancer Care Foundation. The family would like to thank Father John Courage for his support and spiritual guidance, and also extend thanks to the many kind nurses at the Palliative Care Unit. The family wishes to thank the Cancer Care Foundation for their visits and generosity. A Committal Service will take place at a later date at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia’s memory may be made to Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Martin, Magdalen R.

MARTIN, Magdalen R. (nee Rose): Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Nursing Home on January 27, 2012 Magdalen Martin, age 84 years. Predeceased by her husband John and son Kevin. Left with fond and loving memories her daughters: Rev. Yvonne Thistle (Dave), Gander Bay, Janeatt Harris, St. John’s, Elaine Martin (Shane), St. John’s and Gail Martin the youngest of the family, Mt. Pearl whose loving and devoted care will never be forgotten; eight grandchildren: Tina and Kevin Barry (Stacey), Troy (Michelle), Carson (Charity), Sabrina (Ryan), Jenny (Sonny), Tom (Lisa) and Nicholas (Kayla); seven great-grandchildren: Levi, Marlo, Ishmael, Owen, Sam, Marley, Nathan and Collin; sisters: Bridget Traverse and Angela Power; daughter-in-law Mary; niece and nephew Marie Lockyear and Ron Rose and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa’s Parish, Mundy Pond Road. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully received or donations in her memory may be made to the Health Care Foundation.

MacRoberts, Clementine

MacRoberts, Clementine (nee Tucker): Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on January 30, 2012 surrounded by her loving children, Clementine MacRoberts, aged 88 years. A wonderful woman with a generous heart. Predeceased by her first husband, Gordon; sons: Everett and David; sisters: Marjorie and Mary; brothers: Charles, Moses, Simeon, David and Cyril. Leaving to mourn her loving and devoted spouse of 51 years Ed; her children: Gordon (Stella), Jean, Joseph, Elizabeth (Don), Sharon, Garry (Leona), Brian, Brenda (Leonard) and Carol (David); 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sadie and Phoebe; daughters-in-law: Jean, Barb, Bernice, Brenda and Elsie as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place from St. Philip’s Anglican Church on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, St. Philip’s. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Clementine’s memory may be made to the St. Philip’s Anglican Church Building Fund.
