Dodd, Minnie Blanche (nee Norris)
Passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her own home at the age of 91, surrounded by her loved ones. Pre-deceased by loving husband Fred, siblings Jonah, Janie, Bill, Lydia, nephew Austin, and special friends Vera, Peg, Mona, and Jack. Leaving to mourn her children Anne, Fred (Lynn), and Janet (Craig), grandchildren Eleanor, Jessie, Matthew, Erin, Elyse, Josh, and Sarah, brother-in-law George “Doc” (Val), nieces Geneva (Ross), Jean (Austin), and special friends Ora, Denise, Eleanor, Elmo and many more. Everyone who knew Minnie, will ever remember her welcoming, gentle, and giving nature. She espoused the meaning of kindness by living it every day. Few ever left her happy home without a hot cup of tea. The grandchildren will always have memories of their Nanny Minnie Mouse in all her lovingly hand-knitted items. Many little toes have been warmed by her socks, her loving hands and heart. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors are Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Thursday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. with a private family interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, continue her legacy of kindness with donations to Rainbow Riders.
Battcock, Amelia (Millie)
Passed peacefully away on Tuesday Feb16, 2016, at home in the presence of her loving family, Amelia (Millie) Battcock, of St. John’s, in her 90th year. Predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Leonard in 2014, as well as her parents, Roy and Beatrice ( Summers) Bailey, brothers, Max Duffett, Jack and Richard Bailey and sister Dallas Mercer. Leaving to mourn her loss is daughter Gloria (Bill Scott), and sons Randy, Tony (Maureen) and Hal (Kim), 8 grandchildren, Danice (Charlie Szabo), Andrew (Renee), Bill (Jamie-Lyn), Sarah, Mark (Jodi), Neil, Leonard and Haley, 6 great grandchildren and sister Beatrice Burke. Also mourning her loss are sisters-in-law, Delis Walsh (Bay Bulls) Nellie O’Brien (Calvert) and Helen Battcock (Mt. Pearl) and numerous relatives and friends. A special thank you to family physician, Dr. Percy Crocker for all his home visits with his support and direction for Mom during her final weeks. By request cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, February 17, 7 – 9 PM, and on Thursday Feb 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will take place at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday February 19, at 2:30 PM., followed by burial at The Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
Coady, Alice Marie
Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center after a courageous battle with cancer, aged 33. Predeceased by her father Michael Coady, aunts Marge, Elizabeth, Marie and Nora; and uncles Don, Patrick, and Mark. Leaving to mourn her mother Yvonne; stepfather Gerald; stepsisters Tina, Barb and Kelly; stepbrother Gerald; best friends Jim, Colleen, Melissa, James, and Shawn; godchild Noah; and a wide circle of family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Powell and her team, and the staff at 4NA for the care and compassion they had shown towards Alice. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday, February 22nd, 2016 from 10 a.m – 9 p.m, and Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016 from 10 a.m – 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 at 11:30 a.m from The Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow the service in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alice’s memory to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic.
Tucker, Ruby Lorraine
Ruby Lorraine Tucker (Nee Perry) Today our family lost a beautiful soul, a loving mother, caring grandmother, a strong woman and a kind spirit. Passed away in peace and dignity on February 18th at the Health Science Centre Complex in her 84th year a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Otto George Tucker; parent’s Simon Perry and Francis Ball; her brother Harold Perry; Sister Doris Benson and Brother-in-law Robert Benson. Her passing leaves a hole in the hearts and lives of her sons (Bill) William J. (Karen) and Craig (Kelly); grandchildren Katie (Mike) Crane; Andrew; Nathan and Lily as well as a large number of nieces and nephews. It is hard for us to think of a world without her in it. However, her love was always overflowing and her grandson stated her heart was always the warmest. Ruby was a former Salvation Army Officer and teacher as well as a faithful and supportive wife of Dr. Otto Tucker. She took on the adventures and interests of her husband and proudly ventured where few had gone before. She was Otto’s rock and travelled with him to the North West Territories in the early 1960’s and across Canada as the partner of a man who was inspired to explore. She was a friend to many and was always positive and gentle to all. She will be missed but never forgotten. Cremation has taken place. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Rd. Visitation will be Saturday February 20th from 2 – 4 and from 7 – 9. A Funeral service of remembrance will be on Sunday in Carnell’s Memorial Chapel at 2:30. Crane, Angus George
Passed peacefully away at St. John’s Long Term Care facility on February 20th, 2016, one day shy of his 95th birthday, Angus G. Crane. Predeceased by parents Angus and Rebecca Crane, wife Nellie and older brother Llewellyn. Left with fond and loving memories his son Robert (Gus) and his wife Arlene; grandsons Matthew and Robbie; special nieces Hilary Crane and Alice Porter; and other nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks to special family friend Margaret Brown, Penny Crane and Jim Crane, and the staff of St. John’s Long Term Care facility 4th floor. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, on Monday, February 22nd, 2016 from 12 – 5 p.m and 7 – 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016 at 2 p.m from the St. Thomas Anglican Church, with interment to follow in the Anglican cemetery Forest Road. Smith, John Lenard
John Lenard Smith April 22, 1938 - February 20, 2016 It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our father John Smith, 77 years old, of St. John’s, NL. After a brief illness and a strong fight he passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Florence Alexandria Smith; parents Clarence Smith and Velma Currie; sister Arlie Grunland and special Aunt Margaret (Al) Cryderman. His passing leaves a great feeling of loss in the hearts and lives of his daughters Cindy (Rick) Hu, Fran (Doug) Kirby and son John (Denise) Smith; grandchildren Amanda (Paul) Hu, Alex Hu, Tyler Kirby and Sasha Smith. Also mourning his loss are his sisters Fran De Nobile and Sandra (Mike) Di Cenzo and brother Gene (Trudy) Smith, along with his nephews and nieces Mark (Cathy) De Nobile, Nick (Cathi) De Nobile, Lisa (Flavio) Blasato, Nicole (Mark) Krzyczkowski, Michelle Kotowski, and Jennifer, Stephanie and Teresa Smith. Dad was a strong independent thinker, a good listener and intelligent man with a great sense of humour! John was born in Owen Sound, ON and lived and worked in Toronto where he met Florence, the love of his life. They married and began raising their family in Oakville, ON. Their adventures continued when the family moved to Florence’s hometown, Grand Bank, NL. He was a strong businessman and proud of his and Florence’s many accomplishments, including Granny’s Pizza and Variety Store, Granny’s Motor Inn, and the Fortune B&B.; In recent years, John, supported by his family’s efforts, travelled to many places, exemplifying his motto, “I’m going to Live until I Die.” John leaves behind many wonderful memories and stories about his adventures. He was a thoughtful, loving person who always was supportive of his wife, children and family, providing the encouragement for them to thrive and succeed. Our family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Paul Jackman for all of his tremendous support and efforts to help Dad have a good quality of life in recent years; the outstanding staff, of 4SB Health Sciences Centre, who provided amazing care to Dad and our family. We will never forget how you kept his dignity throughout his illness. In particular, we would like to thank Dr. Linda Magnusson and Dr. Abayomi Ogunyemi, along with the postgraduate Residents for the care they provided dad and the support they extended to our family. Snow, Brenda (nee Kearley)
Snow, Brenda (nee Kearley) – Passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Burin Peninsula Hospital, in the presence of her loving family, on Sunday February 21st, 2016, Brenda Snow, age 64 years. Predeceased by her parents, John and Hilda Kearley; Uncle Philip Mullins and Aunt Annie Dyke. Leaving to mourn her loving husband of 42 years, Garfield; three sons: Gary (Sarah), London, ON, Darrell (Sheri Keats) and Ricky (Kaitlyn Caines); seven grandchildren and one expected to arrive in May; two brothers: John Kearley (Margaret) and Ralph Kearley (Dorothy); six sisters: Nina Freeborn (Ward), Dianne Sutcliffe (Larry), Cathy Sheppard (Jim), Freda Kearley, Josie Augot (Ernie) and Sherry Sheppard; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service to take place at a later date.

Tucker, Ethel Mae (nee Purcell) – Passed peacefully away at her residence on Sunday, February 21, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, Ethel Mae Tucker, age 78 years. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Jessie Purcell; brothers, Thomas and Leo; sisters, Mary and Veronica (Bunny). Leaving to mourn loving husband of 45 years, Charles; daughters: Debbie (Dwight), Gail, Ann (Carl), and Susan (Stephen); 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Norma Mohr and Marilyn (Ray); brother-in-law, Wesley (Norma); also a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Special thank you to dear care giver Julia Grace and a special friend Peter Tucker. Cremation has taken place.
