BROWN, RITA LORETTA

CORNER BROOK, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rita Brown announce her passing on Friday, September 19th, 2003 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in her 89th year.
She will be sadly missed by her 10 children: George (Vera), Henry (Lorraine), Howard (Dot), Doris O’Dell, Angela Hase (Don), Kay Piercey, Linda Locke (Lloyd), Gloria Brown (Frank), Margaret Crawford (Doug), Vera Nelson (Ron); daughter-in-Law Carrie Brown; 32 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren; sister Edith Wheeler (Roland); sisters-in-law: Evelyn Barnes, Rose Barnes, Angeline Brown, Lillian Langer and numerous other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Brown (1994), son William Brown, sisters Ida Wheeler, Jessie Strickland, brothers Harry Barnes, Enis Barnes and sister-in-law Margaret Williams.
The funeral service will be held Monday, September 22nd at 10:30 a.m. from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cathedral, Main Street, The Very Reverend Lorne Gosse officiating, followed by the interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church.

Edith Brake

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edith Brake announce her passing an Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at the Interfaith Home for Seniors in Corner Brook in her 91st year.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children-three daughters: Ida Park, Gillams, Bernice (Robert Wetmore), Everett, Ontario., Nela (Donald Elliott), Richmond Hill, Ontario., three sons: David (Judy), Cox's Cove, Wayne, Bancroft, Ontario., and Noal (Mary), Meadows, 27 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren: sister; Nona George, Comer Brook, brother- Arthur Ellsworth, Mountainview Home, Meadows, sister-in-law, Bessy Ellsworth, Kelowna, BC, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband Gordon, 1964, daughters Eileen and Ena Brake, grandchildren Flora Pike, Gordon, Danny and Robin Stone, sister, Lida Gillam, brothers; Stewart Wight, Clayton Ellsworth and Ralph Ellsworth, sisters-in-law; Sarah Wight, Mariah Ellsworth and Matilda Ellsworth, brother-in-law Augustus Gillam, and sons-in- law; Eli Park, Reginald Brake and Harry Brake.
Friends may visit Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Meadows beginning on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from where the Funeral Service will be held an Saturday, September 13, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Sidney Payne officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre' s Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

Henry Way

Flowers Cove, NL - Passed away Thursday, August 28th, 2003 at his family residence, Henry Way at the age of 73. He leaves to mourn his wife Sadie, children: Melvin, Loomis & Brenda, Clarence & Nancy, Bertha & George, Keif & Karen, Eric & Marlene, Bryce & Ann, Brada & George; 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; brothers: Abe (Rosalene), Corner Brook, Max (Mabel), Flowers Cove; sisters: Alma Penney, St. Anthony, Bertha (Montrose) Genge, Flowers Cove; sister-in-law Hazel Way, Flowers Cove, Grant (Estelle) Way, St. John’s; special nephew & niece Dr. Clifton Way (Betty), Millie Simms (Willie P. Simms), as well as a large circle of relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by parents Agustus and Suzannah, brothers: Stewart, Aubrey, Pearce, Clayton, sisters: Josie, Pearl & Ella .
The funeral service was held Sunday, August 31, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the United Church, Flowers Cove, Reverend Arnold officiated followed by the interment at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Bear Cove.

Bertha Clarke

It is with great sadness that the family of Bertha Clarke announce her passing on Friday, September 19, 2003 at The Interfaith Home, Comer Brook, in her 110th year.
She is survived by grandsons: William, Vancouver; Robert (Marie), Mount Pearl, John (Margaret), Mount Pearl, Malcolm (Andrea), Saskatoon, Sask, Ralph (Peggy), Prince George, BC, Richard (Dina), Brampton. ON, granddaughters: Joy (Greg) Taaffe, Comer Brook; June, Red Deer; AIta; Susan (Keith) Spencer, Saskatoon, Sask.; also by fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her loving husband Herbert Clarke (1973), son Herbert Clarke Jr. (1994), daughter-in-law Margaret Clarke (1996) and grandson Jim Clarke (1995).
The family will be receiving friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St Mark's Avenue, on Sunday from 6-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 22 at 2:00 p.m. from The Salvation Army Temple, O'Connell Drive, Major Gary Cook officiating, with interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to The Salvation Army Temple, O'Connell Drive or to The Interfaith Home.

Harold Chesley Childs
WW2 Veteran (Royal Navy)

Lark Harbour, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harold Chesley Childs announce his sudden passing on Monday, September 1st, 2003 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in his 80th year.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years Mary; son Garland & wife Jeanie; daughters: Suzanne Childs (Howard )and Rosalyn Sheppard (Rendell); foster daughter Heather Traverse (Rick) all residing in Lark Harbour; 10 grandchildren: Steven, Jeffrey, Ryan, Johnny, Melanie, Dennis, Dale. Trina, Richard and Regie; 6 great grandchildren: Kirkland, Dayna, Denise, Craig, Dawson and Mia; 2 brothers: Ronald (Mamie), Lark Harbour, Soloman (Marie), Yarmouth, NS; brothers-in-law: Roland Sheppard, Kenneth Druggett; and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Clara Childs; sisters: Ruby, Elsie, Bessie and Mary; brothers: Bill and Herbert.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 4th at 2:00 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour, Reverend Joyce Payne officiating followed by the interment at the Church Cemetery. Friends may visit St. James Anglican Church Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

GRETA MARJORIE HUNT (nee PIKE)

St. David’s, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Greta Hunt announce her passing on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at Dr. Everette Chalmers Hospital in Fredricton, NB at the age of 69 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Ramsey Hunt Sr.; one son: Ramsey John Hunt Jr. (Betsy), Saint John, NB; two grandchildren: Nathanial and Vanessa; step-grandchild: Taylor, two sisters: Sylvia Morris (Joseph), Robinson’s, and Anita Webster (William), Brancroft, ON; aunt: Evelyn Chaffey, St. David’s, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Albert and Martha Pike and grandson Ramsey Lawrence. Friends may visit St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church in St. David’s on Monday 7-9 PM from where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 8th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Canon David Pearce officiating. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, St. David’s. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to a Charity of One’s Choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing.

KEEPING, SARAH (Nee King)

It is with great sadness that we the family of the late Sarah Keeping announce her passing on Wednesday, August 26th, 2009 at the Charles LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques in her 89th year. A dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Keeping, parents Andrew and Rachel King, son Chester Keeping, grandson Godfrey keeping, great-granddaughter Lisa Hatcher, brothers Norman, James, Raleigh, Thomas and Eric King, sisters Rita and Holly King and daughter-in-law Florence Keeping. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories sons: John (Linda) Keeping of Burnt Island, Arthur (Kate) Keeping of Burnt Island and Eric (Frances) Keeping of Glace Bay, NS; daughter-in-law Violet Keeping of Eastern Passage; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a wide circle of family and friends. Visitation took place on Thursday and Friday at St. George’s Anglican Church in Burnt Island from where the funeral service was held on Saturday, August 29th at 2:00 PM with Rev. George Critchell officiating. Interment followed at the Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port aux Basques.

John "Jack" Doody Sr.
1936-2009

Corner Brook, NL - Passed peacefully away on Monday, August 24th, 2009, John Doody Sr. at the Palliative Care Unit, Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 73 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are: his wife of 50 years, Yvonne; five children: Michael (Kristopher), Vancouver, BC, Beverly (Clifford), Corner Brook, Theresa (Michael), Corner Brook, John (Angelia), St. John’s and Henry (Angela), Fredericton, NB; nine grandchildren: Jonathan, Samantha, Sarah, Kimberly, Emily, Katie, Joshua, Ariana and Isabella; one brother: Monsignor James Doody, St. John’s; two sisters: Agnes Corcoran (Mike), Topsail and Etta Conway, Corner Brook; cousin: Edgar Doody, Florida; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Casimir and Sarah Doody; brothers: Aiden, Ben, Gerald and Leonard; sister: MaryEllen. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 27th at 10:30 AM from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mt. Bernard Avenue, Monsignor James Doody officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shepherd’s Fund.
