RALPH K. TILLER
Corner Brook, NL - Passed peacefully away on Sunday, August 2, 2009, Ralph Tiller at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 74 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his daughter: Kim Griffin (Jim), Toronto, ON, ; sons: Kenneth (Darlene), York Harbor and Perry (Cathy), Toronto, ON; grandchildren: Stephen, Tonya and Michael all residing in Toronto ; brother: Norman (Mabel) Tiller, Curling and sister: Martha Knight (Gary), Curling; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Lorraine, 2001; brothers, Eric and Robert Tiller; and parents: Robert and Lizzie Tiller. Visitation will take place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 5th at 2:00 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel, St. Marks Avenue, Marilyn Avery officiating, with cremation to follow at Humber Valley Crematorium. FATHER DESMOND THOMAS MCGRATH
CORNER BROOK, NL - Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, Father Desmond Thomas McGrath at the age of 74 years. Father McGrath was ordained on June 4, 1961 at Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Corner Brook where he served as assistant pastor from 1961-1968. He served as pastor at Holy Family Parish in Port Saunders/Port au Choix (1968-1975), Our Lady of Grace Parish in Bird Cove (1975-1976), for another five years at Holy Redeemer Parish (1976-1981), at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Lourdes (1984-1989) and at St. Ann’s Parish in Codroy Valley (1996-2000). During his tenure at Port Saunders he and Richard Cashin formed the Fisherman’s Union -United Food and Commercial Workers Union which later became part of the Fisherman, Food and Allied Workers Union. He worked with the Fishermans’ Union from 1981-1984 and 1989-1996. For over 30 years, Father Des empowered workers in the fishing industry. Through his direction and involvement in the Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters and numerous advisory bodies, he has helped establish this work force as a profession. In addition, he was instrumental in the organization and creation of his province’s Fisherman, Food and Allied Workers Union. He was also a key player in the development of educational programs for fishers, plant workers and their families, notably a province-wide literacy program. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth McGrath, brothers, Frank, Alex and Dermot, and his sister Helen Rochester and nephew Michael McGrath. He leaves to mourn his sister, Elizabeth McGrath, nieces, Terry Janovick, Claire Pollok, Catherine Pedersen, Karen McGrath, Mary Ann McGrath and Heidi Spenst, all from British Columbia, and Alexandra Borden from Brampton, Ontario, nephews, Brian McGrath, Stephen McGrath and Kevin McGrath, all from British Columbia, and Tim Rochester from Montreal, Bishop Crosby, his brother Priests and many other relatives, friends and parishioners throughout Newfoundland. Visitation will take place from The Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mt. Bernard Avenue on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. from where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 31st at 2:00 p.m. Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, officiating. Interment to follow at the family plot, Townsite cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Shepherd's Fund, c/o Most Holy Redeemer Parish.
PITTMAN, JAMES JOHN

SOPS ARM, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Pittman announce his passing on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, at the age of 80. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Elsie, children: Leighton (Marilyn), Leonard (Beverly), Lila(William Budden), Maxine(David Ryan), Ricky (Daphne), 15 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, sisters: Virtue Tulk and Lucy Pittman, as well as a large circle on nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son Winston and a number of step-brothers and sisters. He was pre-deceased by his father Russell; nephew Chad Johnson and brother in law Gus Johnson. Corner Brook, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alfred Doyle announce his passing after a tragic motorcycle accident on Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 at the age of 67. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his companion Roberta Pafford, her children: Robert (Sue), Chilliwack, BC and Bonita (Scott), Grimsby, Ont and grandson Nicholas, his sisters Ruth Doyle, Stephenville, Genevieve Hickey, Calgary, AB, Martina (Tom) Fennell, Corner Brook and brother Dermot (Kathy), Corner Brook. He will also be missed by nieces and nephews Deana, Bruce, Sean and Lisa Hickey, Margaret White, Karen and Michael Fennell; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents Raymond and Leona (Ryan) Doyle and infant sister Patricia. Alf will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit and love of life. Whether he was skiing, sailing, hang gliding or biking he always did it to the max. His giving ways will be missed by many. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Henry "Hank" Shouse announce his passing on Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 at the Labrador Grenfell Health Centre at the age of 86 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Bella; children Anne (Greg), Jim (Della), Nancy (Ralph), Sue (Ross); grandchildren: Celena, Eli, Zachary, Anna, Elliott and Ally, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: David (Vi), Rowena (Rod) Tucker, Elaine Fost and Keith (Elaine), 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, one brother Max (Helena) Bauld, five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, special friend Anne Dower. As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John, 1981 and son Barry, 1996.
