1921-2009
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wesley Samuel Collier announce his passing on Friday, September 4th, 2009 at the Charles LeGrow Health Centre, Port Aux Basques, in his 88th year. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Elizabeth; sons: Greg (Sonya) and Darrell (Destini); grandchildren: Dion, Kaitlyn, Graham, and Hudson; brothers: Gerald, Ron, and Sandy; sisters: Loretta (Leander) Gillard, Marjorie Billard, and Bessie; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents: Samuel and Annie Collier; brother Howard; sisters: Joyce Brown and Edna Hardy; brothers-in-law: Clarence Brown and Ralph Hardy; and sisters-in-law: Marjorie, Margaret, and Tina. Friends visited St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Rose Blanche on Sunday, from where the funeral service took place on Monday, September 7th at 2:00 PM. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery.

Lark Harbour, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ralph Alexander Childs announce his passing on Sunday, September 6th, 2009 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook at the age of 82 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Louise, daughter Karen, sons: Karl (Valerie) and Chris (Leanne), grandchildren: Danielle, Vanessa, Alex (Ashley), Colby, Brooke and Paige, brothers and sister-in-law: Warren Sheppard, Emma (Stan) Childs and Myles (Ruth) Sheppard, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John Charles and Sarah Childs, 2 children Karl and Lois, sister Eileen, brothers John Charles Childs and Wallace Childs, sister-in-law Marion Maxwell and Harold R. Sheppard. Friends may visit St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour on Monday 7-9 PM and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM from where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 9th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Nellie Thomas officiating. Interment to follow at St. James’ Anglican Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. William Frederick Hillier
1922 - 2009
Corner Brook, NL - Passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness, William Frederick Hillier, at the age of 86. Leaving to mourn with sadness and many happy memories, his wife of nearly 59 years, Rosalie, and his four children, Derek (Christine) of Gander, Keith (Maxine) of Pasadena, Clyde (Brenda) of St. John’s, and Bernice (Wayne Ash) of Corner Brook. Also, seven wonderful grandchildren, Jason (Lori) of Toronto, Chad (Kerri Ann) of Lower Sackville, NS, Brent of Fort McMurray, Michael (Sara) of St. Mary’s, ON, Jennifer of Pasadena, Jeffrey of St. John’s, and Noah of Corner Brook, as well as great-granddaughter, Kennedy, and great-grandson, Atticus. Also left to mourn are sister Mae Bennett (Port au Bras), and sisters-in-law, Doris (Fred Pittman), Sheila (David Crocker), Effie Hillier, and brothers-in-law, Gerald Hillier (Millie) and Norman Hillier (Ruby), and special friends Gilbert and Melvina Lushman. Predeceased by his parents, Josiah (1936) and Beatrice (1967), and by his brother, Albert (2007). A celebration of William’s life will be held at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on Saturday, August 29th, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Derek Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on St. Mark’s Avenue on Friday, August 28th, from 7-9 p.m. Donations gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Corner Brook, NL - Passed away peacefully at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 Violet Francis at the age of 55 years. She will be sadly missed by her common law husband Frank Taylor, daughters: Lana (Rodney) and Tara (Kaleb), grandchildren: Kyle, Victoria and Ethan, sisters: Beatrice Peddle, Linda Giles and Delilah Francis (Derek), brothers: John Francis (Emma) and Gordon Francis (Elaine), Frank’s daughter Diane (John) and son Dale (Cindy). She had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and will be sadly missed by her aunt Gertie Targett and aunt Violet Johnson. She was predeceased by her parents John and Lucretia Francis, sister Bertha, brothers Derek and Harold, brothers-in-law Glen Peddle and Kevin Giles. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Monday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 PM. STEPHENVILLE CROSSING, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the Late Thaddeus Hawkins announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, NL on Monday, August 17, 2009 at the age of 78 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Elsie (nee: Hodder); two daughters: Madeline (Allan) Campbell, Stephenville, Valerie (Cless) Ollerhead, Lethbridge, AB; four grandsons: Jonathan Campbell, Stefan (Grace) Campbell, Donaven Hawkins, Taylor Hawkins; great-grandchildren Bram and Enya Campbell; brothers: Herbert (Marie), Cletus (Brenda), Michael (Dorothy), Anslem (Pauline); sisters: Muriel (Les) Hynes, Phyllis White, Rose (Mike) Orlando, Bernadette ( Cyril) Davis, Debra (Sammy) Hines, Mary (Jeffrey) Lee as well as many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Oswald and Mary Eunice Hawkins, daughter Princeline in June 1984, son Teddy in February 1997 and brother John in November 2002.
