It is with great sadness that the family of Ann Marie Shirran/Baggs announce her tragic and untimely death at the age of 32 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories: her precious one year old son, Moses, St. John’s; mother: Diane Baggs, St. John’s; father: Jon Baggs, Steady Brook; brother: Dana Harrell (Marilyn), St. John’s and sister Cheryl Therrian (Dennis), Steady Brook; grandmother: Belle Shirran, Bonavista. As well as nieces Brittany and Rebecca Harrell, St. John’s; nephews: Justin, Jacob, and Jessie Therrian, Steady Brook; aunts and uncles: Anne Belle, St. John’s, William Belle, Ottawa, Ron Piggott, ON, Gordon Shirran (Edith), Ontario, Ed Shirran, Alberta, Fred Shirran, Ontario, Majors Bruce Shirran (Marilyn), Ontario, Barbara Michael, Iowa, U.S.A., Brian Shirran (Cheryl), Debbie Crewe (Bob), Bonavista. She was predeceased by her brother: Michael Baggs; grandparents: Hedley and Elizabeth Baggs; grandfather: Hubert Shirran; aunts: Barbara Piggott and Ruth King; uncle: Bruce Baggs. Also left to mourn, a wide circle of family and friends. Friends may visit Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Monday, September 13th, 2010 from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm and 7:00 pm-9:00 pm. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 at 2:00 pm from The Salvation Army Citadel, 25 Adam’s Avenue, St. John’s, Major Brian and Valarie Wheeler officiating. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue, Corner Brook on Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 16th, 2010 at 2;00 pm from The Salvation Army Citadel, Premier Drive, Major Calvin Fudge officiating. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

CORPORAL BRIAN PINKSEN
April 5, 1990 - August 30, 2010

Corner Brook, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Corporal Brian Pinksen announce his passing on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Landstuhi Regional Medical Centre in Germany at the age of 20 years. Brian was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by his mother Debbie Pinksen, brothers: Brandon and Blair Pinksen, girlfriend Natasha Burton, father Neil Pinksen, grandparents Calvin and Millicent Gillingham and Ross and Gertie Pinksen, aunts and uncles: Byron (Nancy) Pinksen, Ivan (Valerie) Gillingham, Pamela (Roger) Combdon, Dale (Colleen) Gillingham, Morgan (Loriann) Gillingham, Valarie (Mikael) Mantyla, Leonard (Esther) Gillingham, Remona (Kerry) Pittman and Kirby (Mindy) Gillingham, cousins Daniel, Victoria, Noah, Chantelle, Stephen, Grant, Jenna, Jonathan, Melissa, Joshua, Jenelle, Clara, Cameron, Logan, Amber and Isaiah, as well as a large circle of other relatives and many, many friends. A private family visitation and a private family funeral service will be held at First Pentecostal Church, Premier Drive, Corner Brook. Interment will follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Sop’s Arm, with Pastor Velmer Bessey officiating. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Pentecostal Youth Group. AUSTIN JOHN RYAN

Port Saunders, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Austin Ryan announce his passing on Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders at the age of 80 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife: Imelda; sons: Barry (Myra), Myron (Carolann), Melvin (Ann); daughter: Carla (Kevin); grandchildren: Jason, Rebecca, Brandon, Adam, Ryan, Laura, Joshua and Todd; great grandchildren: Drew and Devin; sister: Philomena; brothers: Brendon, Clarence, John, Kevin and Jim; as well as large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister: Sophie; brother: William; parents: Jack and Elsie Ryan. The family are receiving friends at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Port Saunders on Wednesday, 7-9:00 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m.; from where the funeral service will take place on Friday, July 23rd at 3:00 p.m. with Father Lee Lainey officiating. Interment to follow at the Interfaith Cemetery, Sandy Cove. The family guest book may be signed or a memorial donation may be made through our website www.fillatre.ca Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port Au Choix.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 60 years Olive (nee Hynes), Rocky Harbour; sons: Scott Jr. (Donna) Shears, Corner Brook and Cyril (Geraldine) Shears, Fort McMurray, Alberta; daughter Lisa (Todd) Smith, Norris Point; grandchildren: Vicki-Rae (Jamie) Tucker, Gregory Shears, Jane Shears (Jeff Gardner), Catherine Shears, Brandon and Matthew Smith; great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Autumn, Noah and Aiden; mother Mrs. Violet Shears, Norris Point; brothers: Llewelyn (Ivy) Shears, Rocky Harbour, Walter (Dorcas) Shears, Rocky Harbour, Irving (Dallis) Shears, Rocky Harbour and Gordon Jr. (Shirley) Shears, Scarborough, Ontario; sisters: Ethel (Curtis) Pittman, Rocky Harbour, Elizabeth (Lloyd) Sparkes, Pasadena, Mae (Wheeler) Perry, Prince George, BC and Mona Major, Rocky Harbour; brother-in-law Laudric Endicott, Corner Brook; sisters-in-law: Brenda (Donald) Roberts, Stephenville and Patsy (James) Bard, Springfield, Ohio; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Gordon Shears, sister Linda Endicott, parents in law John and Mary Hynes, brothers-in-law Guy Dyke, George Major and Douglas Hynes, sister-in-law Marie Hunt, nephews David Major and Calvin Hunt. Friends may visit St. Matthew’s Anglican in Rocky Harbour on Thursday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from where the funeral service will be held on Friday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Olsson III officiating. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband George; children: Valerie (Philip) Hoskins, St. Albans, Sandra (Ivan) Burt, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Jack Cornick (Iris), Alberta, Alma (Cameron) House, Port Saunders, Claude (Tina) Cornick, Holyrood, Gerard (Gael), Halifax, Floyd (Jeanette) and Stanley (Kim), Port au Choix; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers Gerald (Genny) Lavers, Port au Choix and Eddy (Shirley), Georgetown, Ontario; sister-in-law Dorothy Lavers, Port au Choix, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her son Ronald, first husband Benedict Cornick, parents Stanley and Alma Lavers, brother Joseph, sister Veronica, brothers and sisters-in-law. The family received friends at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port au Choix on Sunday and Monday. The funeral service took place on Tuesday, June 22 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Lee Lainey officiating. Leaving to mourn his children: Mary (Wesley) Snyder, Lagrange, California, Emma (Finton) Gabriel, Stephenville, Semone (Raymond) Rose, Grand Falls, Clara (Claude) Caza, Montreal, Ada (Robert) Moores, New Brunswick, Zita Jackman, Ontario, Alma Bolts, Oregon, California, Edward (Mona), Alfred (Paulette), Wade (Doris) and Lori (Geraldine) all residing in Port au Choix, 29 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, the Gould family and a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Victor and Elizabeth, wife Juliette, common law wife Charlotte, children Clara, Gertrude and Austin. The family received friends from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Port au Choix on Sunday and Monday from where the funeral service took place on Tuesday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Lee Lainey officiating. Mathilda Hoskins
1927-2010

Mathilda Hoskins, 82, of Lunenburg, NS passed away on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 at her home. Born in Lourdes, NL, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence (nee Bruce) Young. Mathilda spent most of her life raising her family in Boswarlos, NL and moved for a few years to Ontario, and then came to reside in 1979 to Luneburg. The warmth and friendliness of her Newfoundland spirit was always a large part of who she was. Whether in the home or the wider community, Mathilda’s kindness and generous love were experienced by both family and friends. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her daughters: Mavis Smith of Bowanville, ON, Delores Labinowicz, Back Centre; sons: Calvin (Carole) Hoskins, Brampton, ON, Danny (Sheila) Hoskins, Dayspring, Charles, Brampton, ON, James (Karen) Hoskins, Blockhouse, John Hoskins, Lunenburg and Wallace Hoskins, Lunenburg; husband Charles, Bayport; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Ronald, infant son Junior, 14 brothers and sisters and great-grandchild Ryan. The Funeral Service to celebrate Mathilda’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 26th at 2:00 p.m at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A second Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 29th at 2:00 p.m. from St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, St. George's.Interment will follow at the Non-denominational Cemetery in St. George’s.Visitation will take place on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 7 West St. Stephenville Crossing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

MCKAY’S, NL - Passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 Leah Caroline Hulan at her family residence in McKay’s, NL at the age of 87 years. She will be forever missed and loved by her children: Robert, Chesley (Rita), Charlotte (Roy) Fillatre, Edward (Elizabeth), Larry, Trent (Brenda); 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; step-brothers: William (Midred) Fortune, Gerald (Cora) Fortune; step-sister Classie Fortune; special friend and companion Pamela Shears as well as a large number of friends and family. She was predeceased by husband Walter William Hulan, parents Edward and Charlotte Fortune; step-mother Sarah; son Eugene; sister Charlotte; step-sisters Ethel and Calvina. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 7 -9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, Jeffrey’s from where the funeral service will take place on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Canon David Pearce officiating. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
