Theodore (Ted) Joseph Companion

Halfway Point, NL - Born December 28, 1955 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital to parents Eileen and Joseph (died 2004) Companion of Halfway Point, Ted will be sadly missed by all who loved him during his too short life of 55 years. With his Mom hospitalized shortly after his birth, Ted, a loving child with a captivating heart, was like a third son to his Grandmother Park as she nurtured him during his first year. Back in the loving arms of his mother, he developed into a caring son and grandson, over the years dropping by with flowers, favorite foods, and special keepsakes for the beloved women. Though the flowers have wilted and the food has long been eaten, these special memories will last forever.
Ted served his life as more than a loving son. He was a father, brother, and devoted spouse. Ted was also a loving uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews on both the Companion and Hickey sides, and special friend to many including long time friend Donald Anstey. Father to Steven Parsons, their time spent together may not have been great, but Steven was always on his mind and forever in his heart. Oldest brother to his special girls… sisters Maxine, Chris, Lorraine (Clarence), Audrey (George), Linda (Larry), Joanne (Wayne), and his first niece, “seventh sister” Jennifer (Sandy), Ted never failed to make them feel special. He loved them dearly and showered them with special keepsakes his whole life through. No one made his girls feel more loved and beautiful than their big brother, who held them in such high regard.
Better known as Rocky to younger brothers Bernard (died 1987), Glenn, Rob (Maria), Darren (Kellie), Doug (Catherine), Neil (Penny) and Perry (Juanita), Ted was also a mentor. He spent many years hunting, fishing, camping, and working with his brothers, side by side. Master carpenter and natural tradesman in plumbing and heating, he was instrumental in shaping their lives and guiding them towards their chosen fields. To all who knew him, Ted was a jack of all trades, sought after daily by many in the community, to fix or build something, to lend a helping hand…
Friends and family alike recognized Ted as a hoarder of memories. His house in Halfway Point is a treasure trove of gifts from family and friends. Every gathering at his house sure to have included a literal “walk down memory lane”, with Ted flawlessly recounting detailed stories of his past. Ted was a softhearted individual and these treasures meant everything to him. To this day, as we say our final goodbyes, Ted carries in his pocket the medals of his Grandmother Park, as he has done all the years since her death. He was a special man. We're lucky to have known him.
With a heart of gold that was recognized by all who knew him, he will be mourned by his family and friends. He will especially be missed by the woman who captured his heart in 1989, Geneva Mary Hickey. Soul mate and confidante for 21 years, she cared for him through thick and thin, supporting him through life’s many difficulties, and loving him to the very end. Ted loved Geneva with all his heart and adopted her family like his own… Kevin (Judy), Willis (Joan), Wayne (Caroline), Derrick (Mary), Mary Ellen, Marie (Alban), Gloria (Paul), Marina (George), Elaine (Gord), Maureen (Brian), and special niece Terri-Lynn (Sherman). Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Wednesday, 7-9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 P.M. The Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, January 21st at 10:30 A.M. from Our Lady Star of the Sea, Benoit’s Cove. Father Bernard Buckle officiating. The interment to follow at the church cemetery.
