It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frederick William Sweetland announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 80 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories the special love of his life his wife of 57 years Shirley Sweetland (nee LeDrew); 7 loving children: Chris Fudge (Gary), Ottawa, Ont., Jane Bayne (Bob), Moncton, NB, Anne Moore (John), Calgary, Alb., Barry Sweetland (Janice), Corner Brook, Nancy Day (Wayne), Sault Ste Marie, Robert Sweetland (Judy), Victoria, BC and Vicki Drover (Alan), Corner Brook; 20 loving and adoring grandchildren: Erin, Amy, Zach, Josh and Nathan Fudge, Adam and Andrea Bayne, David, Peter and Leslie Moore, step-grandchildren: Scott and Heather Randell, grandchildren: Andy Sweetland, Sarah, Heather and Becky Day, Kirsten and Erika Sweetland, Nickolas and Jacob Drover; first great-granddaughter Layla-Jade; brother John Sweetland, Corner Brook; sister Brenda Cantwell (Les), Whitby, Ont; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Reuben and Lillian Sweetland and brother Bruce Sweetland. A special thank you to Dr. Davis and nursing staff at 3B. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Thursday from the hours of 7-9 p.m. A private family funeral service will be held with interment at Mount Patricia Cemetery, Archbishop Stewart Payne officiating. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the NL Lung Association or to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital 3B.
Julia Burden (nee: Burton)
1919-2011
Passed away Wednesday April 13th, 2011 at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Center Julia Burden at the age of 91. She will be lovingly remembered by her 3 sons: Hedley, Clyde (Minnie), Bryce (Marjorie); 4 daughters Gloria Mitchell (Byron), Sylvia Power (Iven), Barbara Perry, and Dale; 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brother Wilson Burton, sister-in-law Hannah Burton and a large number of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Fred, April 1, 2004, son-in-law Don Perry, brothers Wilfred, Victor, Cater, Peter, and Charles, sisters Mercedes & Marjorie. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 15th at 2:00 p.m. from Memorial United Church, Curling Street Reverend Clayton Parsons officiating, with interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home 218 Curling Street Thursday between the hours 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to Memorial United Church.
Clarence Burden
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Clarence (Junior) Burden announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 in his 57th. year. He will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife Alice, nee Lovell. Leaving to mourn his mother Nellie Burden, brother, Darrell (Diane) of Norris Point, two nephews Jonathan and David, mother-in-law, Suzannah Lovell of McIver's, brothers-in-law, Eric (Emma), Joseph (Vonnie), sisters-in-law, Marie Kennedy and Louise Lovell of McIvers, and Minette Reid of Ontario. He was predeceased by his father Clarence and brother David Burden. He also leaves to mourn a large circle of relatives, friends, aunts and uncles. Visitation will take place from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue, Corner Brook on Wednesday, September 29, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Visitation on Thursday from the Anglican Church of the Epiphany, McIver's from where the funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joan Coles officiating and interment to follow at the church cemetery. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 48 years Geraldine (nee Park); sons: Jim (Florence), Summerside and Shawn (Fay), Mississauga, Ontario; daughters: Margaret (Quincy Park) and Judy (Bill Crane), both of Cox’s Cove; grandchildren: Ian (Lindsey), Shane (Kayla) both of British Columbia, James (Kayla), Justin (Kayla), Jordan, Jaiden, Shawn Jr. (Amanda), Shelly (Ryan) both of British Columbia, special grandson Jonathan (Sarah), Alberta and Cheyanne (John); great-grandchildren: Nicole, Brayden, Marshall, Jakob, Oliver and Brooklyn; brothers: Bill (Josie), Luke and Ralph (Jean); sisters: Edna, Martha, Amy (Ed) and Clara; sisters-in-law: Lily (Ralph) Abbott and Julie Osbourne; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Two special home care workers Carolyn Crane and Serena Barnes. A special thank you to Dr. Brake for his house visits during the last year, the North Shore nurses from 3B and a special thank-you to his nurse Ruth who stayed with us until the end. He was predeceased by his parents George and Margaret Cox, daughter-in-law Nancy, grandson Stephen, sisters Eileen Welshman and Alfreda Buffett, father and mother-in-law Norman and Ann Park, brothers-in-law Utley, Alfred and Raymond Park, sisters-in-law Mildred, Jean, Glorina and Hilda Park. Corner Brook, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gordon Sharpe announce his passing on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Long Term Care Facility in Corner Brook at the age of 79 years. He was a well known respected and successful business man throughout his life. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Gertrude, two daughters from a previous marriage Daphne (Cal) Bruce, New Brunswick and Dale (Terry) Warren, Corner Brook; three grandchildren: Darren (Molly) and Andrew Bruce and David Warren; one sister Phyllis (Frank) Pollett, Gander; step-children: Anna Madore, Corner Brook and Bill (Wanda) Madore, St. John’s and their children; step-daughters: Betty and Gaye Boland and their children, Ontario; as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Allen and Clara Sharpe. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Granting Gordon’s wishes there will be no funeral service. JANELLE JOANNE BLANCHARD
McIVER'S, NL - It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of the late Janelle Joanne Blanchard announce her sudden passing at the age of 16 on Saturday, January 14, 2012. Janelle leaves behind with fond and loving memories her parents Lori and Richard Blanchard, sister Gabrielle Blanchard, grandparents Charlotte and Warrick Lovell, Rhoda and Warren Blanchard, great-grandparents Austin and Susy Park, Cain and Iris Lovell, and Nina Hoddinott; Aunts and Uncles: Lorna and Fabian, Sandra and Vernon, Dennis and Deanne; cousins: Dylan, James, Gavin and Garrett. She will be forever missed by a huge circle of family and friends. Janelle always had a beautiful, genuine smile for everyone, an outstanding personality and an overwhelming love of sports. She will be hugely missed by everyone who knew her, especially her volleyball and basketball teammates. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 7 pm at the Epiphany Church in McIver's. There will also be visitation on Wednesday. The funeral will take place on Thursday, January 19 at 2 pm at The Epiphany Church, McIvers, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
