Catherine Deluney (nee McCarthy)

Benoit’s Cove, NL - It is with deep sadness that the family of Catherine (Katie) Deluney of Benoit’s Cove, NL. announce her death at her home on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Catherine was born March 8, 1931 on Woods Island, NL to John and Veronica McCarthy. On February 10, 1947 she married Cecil Deluney and together, they raised 14 children. In 1961, the couple resettled from Woods Island to Benoit’s Cove along with many of their extended family and friends. Catherine worked as a homemaker throughout her life. Never a stranger to hard work, she also began in her late 50s to work outside the home as a seasonal worker at Allen’s Fisheries. Catherine was an avid reader, a talented knitter, and an enthusiastic Habs fan since listening to the Original Six broadcast on CBC radio. During the summer and fall months of her retirement years, Catherine loved spending time with her husband at their cabin on Woods Island, helping out her children, and pursuing her hobbies of knitting and reading. Catherine was also a devoted Catholic and her faith gave her great comfort throughout her life and especially during her illness. The Rosary was one of her favourite prayers. She is survived by eight sons: William, Richard (Christine), Ronald (Helen), Howard, Brian, Robert, Neil (Tara Noel), and Donald; five daughters: Joanne, Jocelyn (Lloyd King), Lisa Jesso (Keith), Michelle (Gary Sheehan) and Nicole Russell (Gary); her sister, Veronica Hickey and brother, Robert McCarthy (Mary); twenty eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil in 2008; a daughter, Elaine; five brothers: Anthony, Mike, Frank, Nick, and Benny; and two sisters: Lizzy and Eileen. The funeral will take place on Saturday, February 4th 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Benoit’s Cove, followed by interment at the church cemetery with Rev. Bernard Buckle officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 2nd from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. and Friday, February 3rd from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street. Memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House Newfoundland & Labrador, 31 Peet Street, St. John’s, NL A1B 3W8 or Daffodil Place 70 Ropewalk Lane St. John's, Newfoundland A1B 3R9.

SUSIE MARIAM FELTHAM
July 14, 1928 - December 2, 2011

Corner Brook, NL - Passed peacefully away on Friday, December 2, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Susie Mariam Feltham at the age of 83 years. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend David Feltham in 1998. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her precious children: Albert (Linda) Feltham, Denise (Terry) MacDonald and Michael (Elizabeth) Feltham, Bedford, NS; grandchildren: Alison Feltham, Andrea (Scott) MacArthur, Jonathan MacDonald, Joanne MacDonald (Ingo Matenaar), Houston, TX, Justin (Kelsey) MacDonald, Australia and Jessica MacDonald; 3 great-grandchildren: Karissa Feltham, Isaac and Shea MacArthur; all of whom she loved so dearly; brother and sisters: Murdock (Alma) Dingwell, Bedford, NS, Rosemary (Roy) Billard, Sidney, BC and Blanche Martin, Avon, MS; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lillian Dingwell, Jack (Norma) Feltham, St. John’s, Evelyn (Carly) Thorbjornsen, Brooklyn, NY and Shirley Davis, Musgravetown; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents John and May Dingwell, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, parents-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Sunday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5 at 2:00 p.m. from the Humber United Church, Clarence Street with Rev. Fran Ota and Rev. Clayton Parsons officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

1928 - 2011

Corner Brook, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edward Oke announce his passing on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 83 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Beatrice (nee Walters); children: Edward Jr. (Glady), Madonna Day (Gerry), Gary (Lizanne), Wayne (Viola), Brenda Power (Kevin), and Terry (Pennie); grandchildren: Craig, Bryan, Krista, Jennifer, Crystal, Heather, Ricki, Alicia, and Hailey; great grandchildren: Connor, Spencer, Hope, Faith, and Joshua; very special lifetime friend Joseph “Dukie” Noftall; brothers and sisters: Alice, Raymond, Robert, and Roy(Mary); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by parents Herbert and Queen Victoria; and brothers: Fred, Bill, Peter, Sam, Doug, and Herb.The family would like to say a very special thank you to Dr. Tom Griffen, palliative care doctors, Dr. Dunn and Dr. Rachleigh and the nursing staff. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Mark’s Avenue on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 30 at 2:00 PM from the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist with Archbishop Stewart Payne officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, no flowers by request, donations may be made to Western Memorial Regional Hospital- Palliative Care Unit.

FRANK Michael ELFORD
November 9, 1946 - December 5, 2011

Corner Brook, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frank Elford announce his passing on Monday, December 5th, 2011 at The Health Science Centre in St. John’s at the age of 65 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories children: Shawn (Dave), Toronto, ON, Connie (Blaine) Gillam, Corner Brook and Frank Jr. (Julie), Sault St. Marie, ON; three precious grandchildren: Courtney Gillam, Dylan and Kyle Elford; mother: Mrs. Josephine Elford; two special aunts: Mary Atkson and Eileen Willams; brothers and sister: Tom (Marion) Elford, Mary Elford and Raymond (Nadene) Elford; brothers and sisters-in law: Donna (Rod) Park and Linda (Fred) Bell; Reg (Sheila), Doug (Joan), Bernard (Ted) and Brian (Elizabeth); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife Rita just 12 days earlier on November 22nd, 2011; father, Raymond Elford ; niece: Kristina Marie Elford; mother and father-in-law: Raymond and Annie Bennett; sisters-in-law: Valerie and Elizabeth and brother-in-law Rex. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, December 9th at 10:00 A.M. from Sacred Heart Parish in Curling with Father Edmund Camacho officiating. BERTHA KNOTT (nee Wentzell)
August 17, 1931 - December 25, 2011

Norris Point, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bertha Knott (nee Wentzell) announce her passing on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Facility at the age of 80 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her brother Clyde (Sylvia); sisters: Claudia, Harriet (Asaph) and Geraldine (Sandy); sisters-in-law: Dora (Bert), Joyce (Edgar), Joan (Norm), Linda (Eric), Gladys (Bryce) and Ann; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband William T. Knott, parents Cornelius and May Wentzell, brother Rendell, sister-in-law Hazel, brother-in-law Frank Kennedy, father and mother-in-law Walter and Myrtle Knott, brothers and sister-in-law Rendell and Bride Knott, Clarence and Milton Knott. Friends may visit the Church of the Good Shepherd in Norris Point on Wednesday, December 28 beginning 11:00 a.m. from where the funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Charlene Laing officiating. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made in Bertha’s memory to the Church of the Good Shepherd Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home.

Happy Valley - Goose Bay, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lewis Bird announce his passing on Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Labrador Health Centre at the age of 60 years. He will be sadly missed by his mother Valencia; sisters: Marion, Jean (Reg) and Arlene; brother Mike; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Robert Bird. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, Happy Valley - Goose Bay on Tuesday, December 27 from the hours of 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m. from the Anglican Church. Heatherton, NL - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Linda Barry (nee Whalen) announce her passing on Saturday, December 31st, 2011 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 63 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories : her husband of 46 years, Gordon; son: Jarvis (Nancy); grandchildren: Jake (Krista), Jade (Megan), Jessica, Stephanie (Chris) and Samantha (Rodger); great granddaughters: Natalie and Krystal; sisters: Lorraine (Russell), Jennifer (Doug) and Wanda (Hazen); brothers: Robert (Cynthia) and Jamie (JoAnn); brothers and sisters-in-law: Percy, Sheila, Margaret, Alveena, Aiden, Marina, Joey, Josephine, Loretta, Delia, Wayne, Ronnie and Terry; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents: James and Mary Whalen; mother-in-law: Nora Barry; father-in-law: William Barry and sister-in-law: Geraldine Legge. Private family visitation was held from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 3rd at 2:00 p.m. from St. Joseph’s Parish, Heatherton, Father Terry Boland officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
