WOOLGAR, Evelyn – Passed peacefully away at Chancellor park on Monday, September 3, 2007. Predeceased by husband Albert, son David, son-in-law Milton, grandchildren: Karen, Glen and John. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughters: Evelyn (Buster); Eileen, sons: Doug (Connie); Ed (Pat); Albert Jr. (Lenora); Bill (Corraine); George (Lynne), sisters: Minnie Penny; Emily Button; Blanche Burn; Effie Andrews (Allan); 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m.- 12 noon. Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. from St. Michael’s and All Angels with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. No flowers by request, donations in Evelyn’s memory can be made to St. Michael and All Angels Church Fund.

FAHEY, Dr. Philip James – 78 of Lakeland, died Monday, September 3, 2007 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was under the care of Good Shepherd Hospice. Dr. Fahey was born March 25, 1929 in St. John’s, New Foundland, Canada to Ronald and Kathleen (Barron) Fahey and moved to Lakeland in 1994 from Greensboro, NC. Dr. Fahey earned his medical degree from the University of Ireland in Dublin who specialized in urology and was a member of the AMA and Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons. He also was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Lakeland and was an avid golfer and fisherman. Dr. Fahey was united in marriage in 1952 to Ruth Brophy, who resides in Lakeland. Philip is also survived by his son, Philip J. Fahey, II and his wife, Tammy of Greensboro, NC and his daughter, Kristin Fahey and her husband, Christopher A. Thompson of Savannah, GA. He is preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Fahey. Mass of Christian Burial was held 10am, Wednesday. September 5, 2007 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Hayden celebrating. Interment was held in Serenity Gardens Cemetery, Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to the American Cancer Society. Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes, Serenity Gardens Chapel, Lakeland.

KIRBY, Cecilia – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Center in the presence of her loving family on September 4, 2007, Cecilia Kirby (Ceal) at the age of 78 years after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by her husband Frank Kirby (1997); sisters: Carmel Aylward (1996), Frances Dwyer Hall (2005); granddaughter Darlene Chafe (1969); parents: Louise and Vincent Burke. Leaving to mourn daughters: Diane (Howard Chafe), Donna (Marty Fleming), Beverly Lundrigan and Joanne (Rod Tilley); sons: Tom (Brenda) and Ken (Hope Cull); sister Patsy Lewis; brother Martin Burke (Patricia) of Naples, Maine; brother-in-law Mike Hall; 22 special grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, also leaving to mourn special friends Bride and Tom Shortall, Jan Rickert (Brian and Jared), Billy and Marg and Paul Murphy, Kenny Critch; cousins: Rita Lundrigan and Mary Bransfield, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Wednesday from 12 noon - 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2007 from Corpus Christi Church with interment to follow at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Kilbride. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic.

MacROBERTS, George David – Long standing member of the Horsemen’s Association. Passed peacefully away at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 3, 2007. Dave MacRoberts, aged 59 years. Predeceased by his father Gordon MacRoberts; infant daughter Grace; and brother Everett. Leaving with cherished memories his wife of 40 years Barbara (nee Parrell); daughter Glenda; sons: David (Robin) and Scott (Kim); grandchildren: Samantha and Bradley; mother Harriett (Ed); sisters: Jean, Elizabeth (Don), Sharon (Brian), Brenda (Leonard), and Carol (Dave); brothers: Gordon (Stella), Joseph, Garry and Brian (Elsie); life long best friend Robert King, and special friend Brenda, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Geugh and The Horsemen’s Association. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Thursday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 4 - 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Barrett’s Chapel on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Dave’s memory to the ALS Association.

MILLER, Mabel E. (D.O.B. 11-11-11) – Passed peacefully away on September 3, 2007, after a brief illness in the presence of loving family members. Predeceased by parents George and Rachel (Dicks) Miller formerly of Flat Islands, Placentia Bay, her husband Albert (July 4, 1997), daughter Jean (December 26, 1952), sons: Woodrow (November 2, 1996), David (February 7, 1997) and Jim (March 9, 2003), sister Pearl (1995), brother Gordon (Bud) (1991) . Loving mother of Laura Edna her devoted daughter, caregiver and best friend, daughter Molly (Chris) Carruthers, NS; sons: Reg (Mary), ON, Willard (Hazel); daughters-in-law: Pam and Ruth; seventeen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. We would like to thank the staff of West 1 Hoyles - Escasoni Complex for their tender loving care during her brief stay. As per her request, cremation has taken place. A service will be held at the grave side on Friday, September 7 at 1 pm from the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Barrett’s Funeral Home. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Salvation Army Cemetery Fund.

NEWELL, Doreen (nee Whitty) – Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family on September 4, 2007 at the L.A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Doreen Newell in her 77th year. Predeceased by her parents: Patrick and Francis Whitty; infant daughter Rhonda and brothers: Bernard and Jerry Whitty. Left to mourn with cherished memories daughters: Sharon Button (Lindsey), Debbie Ann Grenning (John), Cathy Hollahan (Dave) and Rosalind Paterson (Ron); sons: Pat (Betty), Derek (Donna), Ray (Marilyn), Kenny (Barb), Keith (Marylou), Kevin, Billy (Darlene), Booie (Patricia) and Nan’s Boy Keith; twenty-six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; special friends Lorraine Noftall, Gary and Eileen Layman and the Scott family. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Wednesday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa’s Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

POTTLE, Catherine (Kitty) (nee Comerford) – Passed away peacefully with her family and friends close at hand on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at the Miller Centre, Catherine (Kitty) Pottle, age 90 years. This amazing and much-loved lady, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to so many, dedicated her life to, and was very successful at, raising her family and helping anyone and everyone that she could possibly reach out to. She is predeceased by her husband George, and sons, David, Paul and Peter. She will be greatly missed by her children: Walter (Cynthia), Elizabeth (John), Helen (Cordell), Gordon (Bette), George (Pat), Harold (Annie), Carol (Ike), Joan, Joyce (Manuel), Lloyd (Roxanne), Phyllis and Elizabeth Shea; brothers Peter and Thomas Comerford and sister Laura Bonia; her many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and long-time family friends, Ed O’Leary, Elizabeth Lee and Sadie Hickey. Friends and family will be received at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held on her 91st birthday to celebrate her life at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist, Military Road, Friday, September 7, at 9:30 a.m. Burial in the family plot at Mount Carmel Cemetery will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.

SQUIRES, Joan – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Center with her husband Barry at her side on September 4, 2007, aged 46 years. Leaving to mourn her loving children: daughter Dana; son David; darling granddaughter Taylor. Also leaving to mourn her parents: William and Mary Kearney; brothers: Den (Debbie), Francis, Louis (Louise), Ivan (Kay); sisters: Marie (Mick), Angie (Doug), Marg (Wade), Patsy (Cyril); mother-in-law Annie Squires; sisters-in-law: Pam (Greg) and Peg; brothers-in-law: George (Jean), Ellis (Lisa), Leonard (Kim); as well as a large circle of other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Funeral service from St. Philip’s Anglican Church on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at St. Philip’s Anglican Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully accepted.
