NOEL, George Stanley – Passed peacefully away at The Pentecostal Senior Citizens Home, Clarke’s Beach on August 28th, 2007, George S. Noel, age 89 years, formerly of Freshwater, Conception Bay. Predeceased by wife Christina (Symonds), February 2005. Leaving to mourn many nieces, nephews and other relatives, including the Symonds family. At Mr. Noel’s request, cremation has taken place. A Committal Service will be held at “The Field of Honor”, Mount Pleasant Cemetery 2 p.m. Thursday Sept. 6, 2007. SCOTT, Rosalee – Passed peacefully away at the L.A. Miller Centre on Friday, August 31, 2007, age 60 years, of Upper Gullies. Predeceased by her father John Scott. Leaving to mourn son Doug (Arlene); her mother Jean and her long time companion Tony; two brothers: Gary (Peg) and Don; two sisters: Bev Mac Eachern (Mike) and Bernice Stead (Wayne); granddaughter Sydney; her special friends Maria da Silva, Ruth Simpson, Barb Butler and Janet Abbott. Also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Saturday from 7-9 p.m., Sunday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Monday 10-12 noon. Funeral service on Monday, September 3, 2007 at 2 p.m. in St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Upper Gullies. Inurnment in the Anglican Cemetery, Upper Gullies. SNOW, John – Passed away peacefully August 30, 2007, at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s, NL., after a lengthy illness. Mr. Snow retired from teaching in 1978. Left to mourn are wife Lorraine; sons: Dr. Robert (wife Patricia), St. John’s, NL, Harold (wife Glendene) of Fort McMurray, AB; daughters: Karen (husband Gary Gibbs), Wabush, NL; sixteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Tony Cole conducted funeral services at Memorial United Church, Bonavista, September 2, 2007. Interment was at Memorial United Church Cemetery, Bonavista, NL. Funeral arrangements were by Strathie’s Funeral Home, Bonavista, NL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke or Retired Teachers’ Foundation of NL.
WENDELL, Elizabeth M. – formerly of Rye N.H. Passed away Peacefully Aug 27, 2007. She was born in Argentia, Newfoundland on Dec. 21, 1912, the daughter of William and Mary Ellen (Lannon) Wyse. Betty graduated from the Nursing school at the General Hospital in St Johns Newfoundland. She also worked in hospitals in Boston, California and during World War II she worked at the Manhattan Project in Oakridge, Tenn. where she received a commendation from the War Department for her contribution. In later years she was a nurse at Portsmouth Hospital and also volunteered as a Red Cross nurse. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Perkins Wendell and her grandson Joshua Raymond Barton. She will be remembered lovingly by her family, her two children Gary W. Wendell and Joanne S Barton; her granddaughter Carley E. Barton; her two sisters Ruth O'Keefe and Theresa Meany, her brother-in-law Aiden Maloney, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. We were blessed to have her grace our lives. Services: Visiting hours will be held at the Farrell Funeral Home 684 State St., Portsmouth, NH on Thursday from 4-7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St James Church, 2075 Lafayette Rd., Portsmouth on Friday at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Rye. Memorials may be made to the Edgewood Centre Recreation Fund, 928 South St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.
BENOIT, Elizabeth — Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, September 1, 2007, Elizabeth Benoit age 61 years. Predeceased by her parents Philip and Francis Benoit and her daughter Sarah Benoit. Leaving to mourn her loving partner Edward Hickey; sons: Leo Benoit (Teresa) and Edward Benoit (Candace); grandchildren: Shelley Benoit, Joshua Benoit, Tyler Benoit, Crystal Benoit and James Dixon; also her brothers and sisters and other relatives and friends. CLARKE, Iris Ruby (nee Squires) — Passed peacefully away in her 83rd year at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Hubert, sons: Reginald and Lester, parents Kenneth and Annie, brothers-in-law Gerald Mahon, Charlie Stoner, Jordan Spurrel. Leaving to mourn her son Art (Rebecca); daughters Florence (Jack, deceased), Ruby (Jim), Rosalind (Winston), Cynthia (Earl, deceased), Brenda, Edwina (Gary); sisters: Pauline Stoner, Olga Spurrel and Maple Thompson; sisters-in-law: Christine Clarke (Vince, deceased); Liza Rose and Hazel Tucker. Nan will be sadly missed by all grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Leaving to mourn son Donald (Glenys), St. John's; grandson, Greg (Susan); great-granddaughter, Olivia, Ontario; three brothers: Frederick Saunders (Cassie), Bill Saunders (Anne), Nova Scotia and Jack Saunders (Dot), St. John's; Eight sisters: Anne Anstey, Grand Bank, Harriett Mahaney, Joyce O'Keefe (Fonce), Eleanor Butt, Carbonear, Phyllis O'Grady (Mike), Gander, Sadie Clarke (Rod), Tilton, Joan Patey (Reuben), St. John's and Juanita Lubin, Ontario; other relatives and friends. RUSTED, Florence Haig — Aged 88 years, passed peacefully away at St. Luke's Home on Saturday Sept. 1, 2007. Predeceased by parents Dr. Thomas and Margaret Anderson and brother Dr. Tom Anderson. Will be lovingly missed by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Nigel Rusted, three children, Joan Rusted (Denis); Elaine Hyde (Bob); Tom (Dyan); three grandchildren Andrew Royle (Jill); Angela Hyde (Jim); Danny Hyde (Cathy), two great-grandchildren, Grace and Thomas Parsons and one sister Millicent Winter and goddaughter Linda Barrett. SHEA, Brother John Gilbert — Aged 87, a member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers, passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Complex after a brief illness on Saturday, September 1, 2007. Predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Annie (Kelley), his sister Mary (Smith); and his niece Margaret O'Keefe. Br. Shea leaves to mourn his Brothers in religion, his nieces and nephews of the Smith family - Elizabeth Ann (Tulk), Marie Louise (Seaboyer), Bernadette (Porter), Sheilagh (Burke), Christina (Bishop), Janet (Oates); David (Laura), Maurice (Ann), John and Paul (Joelle), many grandnephews and nieces and great-grandnephews and nieces, and other dear relatives and friends who cherish his memory. During his 71 years as a Christian Brother, Br. Shea occupied many responsible positions, including principal of St. Patrick's Hall Schools, director of the Christian Brothers' Juniorate in Lakewood, New Jersey; member of the founding Leadership Team of the Canadian Province of the Christian Brothers; director of the International Tertianship of the Canadian Brothers in Rome, Italy; and representative of the Christian Brothers to the Holy See, Rome, Italy. Visitation will be at Mount St. Francis Monastery, 4 Merrymeeting Road, St. John's, on Sunday September 2, from 7 p.m.-9p.m.; on Monday, September 3, and Tuesday, September 4, from 10 a.m.-12 noon; and from 2 -4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to take place on Wednesday, September 5th from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist at a time to be announced. Interment to follow at Belvedere Cemetery.
