BAYLEY, Faith Elizabeth Winifred (Rusted) – On Monday August 27, 2007 at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in her 99th year. Beloved wife of the late Cyril Alfred. Dear mother of William and Phyllis. Survived by her brother Dr. Nigel Rusted. Predeceased by her siblings, Dr. Ian Rusted, Mrs. Cybil Toy, Mrs. Joan Breckman and Rev. Canon Edward Rusted. Will be sadly missed by friends and family from British Columbia to Newfoundland. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at The Church of the Epiphany, 141 Bronte Road, Oakville, with visitation one half hour prior to service. Interment Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorial contributions to The Church of the Epiphany or The Community of the Sisters of the Church, 1392 Hazelton Blvd., Burlington, ON L7P 4V3 are greatly appreciated.

BRIEN, Doreen – Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family at the Carbonear General Hospital on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, Doreen Brien of Carbonear, age 73 years. Predeceased by husband Thomas; sisters Millicent Carter and Elizabeth Bradshaw; brother Winston Parrott. Leaving to mourn one daughter: Gloria (David) Tetford, Carbonear; one son Keith, Carbonear; two grandsons Brian and Mark; brother-in-law Lloyd Brien, Carbonear; sisters-in-law Florence (Bill) Reynolds, Harbour Grace; Doris (Bill) Taylor, Texas, USA; Evelyn Parrott, Corner Brook and Mary Brien, Carbonear; also a large number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Resting at Noel’s Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear until 12:00 noon Friday, August 31. Funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church, Carbonear. Interment in the Interfaith Cemetery, Carbonear. As an expression of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. Visitation hours at Noel’s Funeral Home are 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. daily.

GREENSLADE, Gabriel Thomas (August 28-29, 2007) – Gabriel was the precious baby boy of Wanda and Walter. Leaving to mourn his two brothers David and Samuel, sister Kendra and loving grandparents Sam and Joan Taylor. A private funeral service will be planned.

HIGDON, Stanley Goodyear – Passed away at the Central Newfoundland Health Care Center on August 28, 2007, Stanley Goodyear Higdon, a long time resident of Buchans, in his 89th year. He was born in New Harbour, Trinity Bay, the seventh son of the late Charles Henry and Jane Higdon. He was predeceased by six brothers Levi, Arthur, Harry, Mose, Albert and Harold and his sister Mildred. He leaves to mourn Marjorie, his devoted and loving wife of 67 years; two dearly loved daughters Laura (Len Williams) and Mildred; three cherished grandchildren Holly Penton (Bernard), Dion Rideout (Tina) and David Williams; three great-grandchildren Andrew and Aaron Rideout and Rebecca Penton. Also left to mourn are many nieces and nephews who loved and respected their Uncle Stan, the last link with their family roots. Stan went to Buchans as a young man and was employed by the mining company for 42 years, retiring as electrical superintendent there in 1982. He was a faithful member of the Masonic Lodge in Botwood and recently retired in 50 year pin. Stan was a very talented man, so creative with his hands that his grandchildren were often heard to say, “Pop can fix anything”! Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m. from the United Church, Buchans. Interment Buchans Community Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the United Church, Buchans.

SMITH, Daphne S. – Passed peacefully away at Interfaith Senior Citizen’s Home on August 27, 2007, Mrs. Daphne S. Smith of Spaniard’s Bay, aged 86 years. Predeceased by husband Azariah Smith (1980), sons: Clyde Smith (1984), Clifford Smith (2003) . Left with fond and loving memories sons: Donald (Louise) of Cameron, ON, Azariah (Joan) of Spaniard’s Bay, NL, David (Beverly) of Calgary, AB, Gordon (Nancy) of Stonewall, Man.; daughter Sylvia of Spaniard’s Bay, NL; sisters: Clarice Highmore of Pentecostal Home, Clarke’s Beach, NL, Irene Highmore of Tilton, NL; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Young’s Funeral Home, Spaniard’s Bay. Funeral Service, Friday, August 31st at 2:00 p.m., Holy Redeemer Anglican Church, Spaniard’s Bay, with interment to follow at Maul Tree Hill Anglican Cemetery, Spaniard’s Bay, NL. In her memory flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Holy Redeemer Church Fund in her memory.

HUDSON, Ralph Holman – Passed peacefully away at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, Ralph Hudson, aged 87 years. Predeceased by wife Alma Hudson (nee Noseworthy) . Leaving to mourn are daughters Donna Gould (Rennie) and Beryl Rowsell (Ross); grandchildren Susan Kelly (Mike), Robin Gould (Madonna), Sherry Pothier (Lee) and Tracy Henry (Daniel); great-grandchildren Alisha, James, Mandy, Devin and Emma; sister-in-law Olive Hudson and family, as well as many other relatives and friends including the staff and friends at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service will take place at Memorial United Church, Pouch Cove on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Memorial United Church Cemetery, Pouch Cove. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Ralph’s memory may be made to the Memorial United Church, Pouch Cove.

NOSEWORTHY, George – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on August 29, 2007 after a courageous battle with Cancer, George Noseworthy of Pouch Cove, aged 74 years. Leaving to mourn his son Trevor (Debbie); daughter Janice (David Bishop); grandchildren Beverly (Darrell) Edmonton; Christopher (Allison); sister Vera (Ronald Reid); brother Winston (Rita) and numerous relatives and friends. PRITCHETT, Norman – Passed away suddenly and peacefully while on vacation in Halifax on August 25, 2007, Norman Pritchett, age 61 years. Predeceased by father Curtis Pritchett. COX, Mary E. – Passed away August 28, 2007, Mary E. Cox, age 58 years. Predeceased by her father Thomas Michael Mullaly.
