HEFFERN, Clyde – Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on Aug. 24, 2007, Clyde Heffern. Predeceased by his father Onias Heffern; brothers: Tom, Frank and Kevin. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 42 years Mae (Lambert); sons: Derik (Danette) and Dion (April); daughter: Kelley McGrath (Phonse); grandchildren: Joshua, Dylon and Lillie-Mae; mother Connie Heffern (Simms); sister Sheila Rideout (Wayne); brothers: Carl Heffern (Frances) and Reg Heffern; brother-in-law Winston Lambert; sister-in-law Marge Eastman; good friends Cal and Queen Warren and a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, Torbay. Visitation on Monday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Then resting at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Tuesday from 2 p.m.-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Wednesday, August 29th, 2007, at 2 p.m. from the United Church, Gander. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

HICKS, Ryan Nicholas Stoyles – Passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at the Janeway Children’s Hospital. Ryan was surrounded by his family as well as his second “hospital” family – all the doctors, nurses and staff. Leaving to mourn his parents and best friends Mom Kelly (Stoyles) and Dad Jarrod; grandparents: Gerald Stoyles and Margaret Burke, Dorothy Stoyles, Alexander and Cavell Hicks and Oma and Opa Teschendorff; uncles: Marty and Chris (Nicole); aunts: Nancy (Clar), Angie (Peter) and Janine; also a number of cousins and other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, Torbay. Visitation on Sunday from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m.-12 noon, 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at 10 a.m. from Holy Trinity Church, Torbay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ryan’s memory to his favorite charities, the Children’s Wish Foundation and the Candlelighters Association of Newfoundland.

HISCOCK, Gladys – Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home in Carbonear on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, Gladys Hiscock of Winterton in her 94th year. Predeceased by husband Allison, Mother and Father: Norman Loder and Bertha Gillingham, Brother: Allan Loder; Granddaughter: Tanya Hiscock. Leaving to mourn two sons: Norman (Jean) and John (Betty), granddaughter Michele Hiscock, grandsons Darrell Hiscock (Tina) and Brian Hiscock, and their mother Florence; Grandson Stephen Curtis and granddaughter Krista Curtis (Mike); Great-granddaughter: Alexandra; Sister-in-law Mildred Loder, also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gladys was a 50-year member of the LOBA. Resting at Green’s Funeral Home, Winterton. Visiting hours are Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007 at 2 p.m.-5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Funeral service to follow from St. Luke’s Anglican Church at 2:30 p.m. with interment at the St. Luke’s Anglican Cemetery, Winterton. In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to St. Luke’s Memorial Fund, Winterton.

ROUD, Catherine (Kay) – Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on Thursday, August 23, 2007. Predeceased by her loving parents, Agatha and William Roud; her brother Cecil Duff (Emma); her aunts and uncles: Louisa and Charles Roud and Hannah and William Puddister; her cousins: J. Frank (Margaret) Puddister, Dorothy Puddister, Catherine (Patrick) Glynn, Louise Kilroy, Thomas Puddister, George (Barbara) Puddister, Theresa Puddister, James H. Murphy; and lifetime friend and cousin Josephine Brennan (William) . Leaving to mourn her cousins: Agnes Murphy, Gerald Puddister, Ambrose Puddister, Mary Puddister, Anne Puddister and Walter Kilroy; the Brennan Family - Maureen (Jim) Ward, Rosemary (David) Wells, Joan (Hubert) Gierga and Jim (Patsy) Brennan; as well as other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, August 27, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick’s Church. Interment to follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Church.

BARRON, Patricia (Patsy) (nee Mugford) – Our hearts are saddened to announce the passing of Patsy on August 1, 2007 at Orangeville Hospital, Ontario, following a brave and courageous lengthy battle with cancer, aged 58 years, formerly of Dunville, NL. Predeceased by baby sister, Bernadine (1960) . Left to mourn her loving partner, Carl (Ontario); two daughters: Silvya (Dave), Sharon (both in Ontario), and their father Ignatius (Frank) Barron, Ontario (formerly of Placentia); three grandchildren: Andre, Ronzae and Andrew; loving parents, Bride and Abe Mugford (Dunville); four loving and devoted sisters and brothers: Debbie (Gary) (St. John’s), Madonna (Kitchener, Ontario), Bob (Kitchener, Ontario) and Harry (St. John’s); two nieces: Cassandra and Courtney; two nephews: Matthew and Stephen; two aunts: Angela and Josephine; also leaving to mourn her co-workers and clients and many other special family and friends in Ontario and Newfoundland. As per her wishes, cremation took place in Ontario. Family visitation and tribute to Patsy will be held on August 31, 2007 from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. Memorial Mass will follow on September 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church, Dunville with Father Francis Roche officiating. Donations in Patsy’s memory for future memorial masses will be gratefully accepted.

FINN, Josephine R. – Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on Sunday August 26th, 2007 in her 102nd year. Predeceased by husband Thomas and son Francis. Leaving to mourn sons: James (Mary), Donald, Gerard (Hannah), William (Elizabeth) and Michael (Rosemary); daughters: Helen O’Leary (John, deceased), Margaret Rickert (James, deceased) and Mary Boyle (John) Chiliwack, B.C.; daughter-in-law Catherine Finn; 31 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to take place on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the St. Patrick’s Mercy Home Foundation.

FLEMING, Marion Rose – Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, August 25, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, Marion Rose Fleming, age 61 years. Marion battled her illness as she lived her life, with courage, strength, grace and dignity; she taught us all to enjoy life to the fullest. Marion was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories, her husband James; two daughters: Annette Fleming (Larry Weibe) and Kelly Santuccione (Dino); two grandchildren: Zachary and Liam; parents: Julia and Ronald Newman; six brothers: Gerald (Cecilia), Anthony (Carol), Dennis (Marie), Angus (Anne), Ronald (Joy) and Robert (Teresa); three sisters: Hilda Fleming, Joan Fowler (Austin) and Marilyn Small (Junior); also leaving to mourn a very large extended family and circle of friends. Special thank-you to the nursing staff of 4 North A at the Health Sciences Centre for their kindness and compassion. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to take place on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Pius X Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.

O’MARA, John Francis – Aged 63. Passed peacefully away after a short and dignified battle with cancer on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at the L.A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care. Predeceased by his parents Leo A. and Genevieve (Channing); brother James; parents-in-law: George and Ada (St. Croix) Holwell; brothers-in-law George Holwell Jr., Keith Holwell and infant Billy Holwell. Leaving to mourn his devoted wife and best friend, Dianne (Holwell); sisters-in-law: Joan O’Mara (James, deceased); Doreen Coady (Edward, deceased), Bonnie Stone (John), Anne Holwell (George, deceased), brothers-in-law: Gerry Holwell (Barbara) and Wayne Howell (Daisy); several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins of the O’Mara, Channing and Carew families; also special cousin Dr. Eileen St. Croix (Lloyd White), Gander; and a large circle of friends and colleagues. John was a well-known broadcaster with CBC Radio and Television and since his retirement had been very active in volunteering in the community and dedicated much of his time to various aspects of Newfoundland and Labrador history. Special thanks to all those who touched our lives during this difficult time. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Cremation to follow. BOUZAN, Ellen (nee Crotty) – Passed peacefully away at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home, Calgary, Alberta, on Aug. 22, age 90 years (1917-2007) . Predeceased by husband Alphonsus; son John; brothers: Jack Crotty, Bill Crotty and Mike Ebbs. Left with fond and loving memories are son Richard (Frances); daughters: Marguerite Power (Ed) of Calgary and Catherine Bragg (Jim); sister Alice Quinn; brother Bernard (Mary) of Toronto; daughter-in-law Ellen Bouzan of New Brunswick; sister-in-law Angela Crotty; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a large circle of cherished relatives and friends including Vincent Bouzan (Theresa) of Ontario and Kathleen Carroll of Little Bay. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Thursday, August 30, 2007 from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Friday, August 31, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist.
