O’REILLY, Lawrence Joseph – Passed suddenly away at his residence on Aug. 24, 2007, Lawrence Joseph O’Reilly (Larry) in his 59th year. Predeceased by his father Gerald (1992), his mother Edith (2006), his brother Paul (1999), brother-in-law Dave Edney (1996) and sister-in-law Elizabeth O’Reilly (2006) . Left to mourn his daughters whom he treasured: Krista Newell (Keith) and Lori (Stephen Hardy); precious granddaughter Hailey; his sisters: Betty Forward (Norm Mercer), Bonnie Edney, Patsy Tobin (Paul), Judy Burry (Harry), Barb (Wayne Peddle), Andrea Hawkins (Mike), Mary Stowe (Tom); his brothers: Bob Billard (Mary), Gerry (Sharon) and David; 27 nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and close friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Saturday from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Cremation to follow. Funeral Service on Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at 11 a.m. from Caul’s Chapel with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or a donation in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

PEDDLE, Beulah (nee Kennedy) – Passed peacefully away at the Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit on Friday, August 24, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Beulah Peddle, aged 58 years, of Little Catalina. Predeceased by parents, William and Effie Kennedy; brother William; sisters-in-law: Patsy Kennedy and Hazel Delaney. Leaving to mourn loving husband Robert; daughters: Angela (Tony), Tara (Shawn), Wanda (Darren); five special grandchildren: Laura, Rodney, Brandan, Erica and Anna; sisters: Lorraine (Harvey), Vonnie (Robert); brother Calvin; as well as many other relatives and friends. Resting at Strathies Funeral Home, Catalina. Visitation Saturday, August 25th from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, August 26th from 2-9 p.m. Funeral service to be held at Little Catalina United Church on Monday, August 27th. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.

SLADE, L. Bruce – Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the Carbonear General Hospital on Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, L. Bruce Slade of Salmon Cove, age 47 years. Predeceased by son: Christopher Bruce; parents: William P. and Georgiana; parents-in-law: Hubert and Bernetta Canning. Leaving to mourn, wife: Dianne; one daughter: Gina, Blackville, NB; five brothers: Philip (Millicent), Roger, and Glenn (Judy), all of Salmon Cove, Carson, Greenwood, NS, and David, Kingston, ON; two sisters: Karen (Lindsay) King, Perry’s Cove and Joan Slade, Kitchener, ON; sister-in-law: Debbie (Harve) Slade, Salmon Cove; brother-in-law: Dione (Rebecca) Canning, Whale Cove, Nunavat; also a number of nieces, nephews, as well as other relatives and friends. Resting at Noel’s Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear, until 12 noon Sunday, Aug. 26. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. from Riverside United Church and Cemetery, Salmon Cove. Flowers gratefully accepted, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation. Visitation hours at Noel’s Funeral Home are 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, 2 to 5 p.m., 7 to 9:30 p.m. daily.

SMITH, Leonard – Received into God’s merciful keeping on August 22, 2007, Leonard Smith, beloved husband of the Rev'd. Evelyn Smith. His family gives God thanks for his kind and gentle life. His three children are Michelle O’Grady, St. John’s, Michael (Terri) Smith, Beauval, Sask. and Mitchell (Alana) Smith of Gander. He leaves four grandchildren: Timothy O’Grady, Tyler and Megan Smith and Jeremy Gilbert; one sister, Martha Follett of Labrador City; brother George (Joan) Smith of Heart’s Content; sister-in-law Mary (Chesley Warren) of St. John’s and many friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Levi and Margaret Smith of New Perlican; brother William; sisters: Louise (Willis Pinhorn) and Gertrude (Carl Freeman) . The family offers special thanks to Dr. Nigel Duguid and the nursing staff of St. Clare’s Coronary Care Unit for the exceptional medical and gentle care which they provided. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, August 23rd from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with cremation to follow. In thanksgiving for his life the Funeral Eucharist will take place from St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, St. Clare Avenue on Saturday, August 25th at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev’d. Chris Snow officiating. Interment to take place at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the charity of ones choice.

STIRLING, Jean (Ann Jane) – On Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto. A beloved, though most unconventional, mother and grandmother, Jean was predeceased in 1994 by her best friend, Stanley John Stirling. Beloved mother of Ann Elwood, Brantford; Lynn Mowbray (Graham), St. John’s, NL; Jack Stirling (Deirdre), Ottawa and Jim Stirling (Jennifer Graham), Burlington. Granny of Kevin Elwood, Jimmy Mowbray, Ian, Alison and Michael Stirling. Mom lived her life with gusto. After a 25 year career at The Bay, Mom retired to travel the world, volunteer at the Toronto Zoo, play bridge and enjoy life. Special gratitude to Maureen Perry and Noonie Yarker who have become family. Special thanks to Dr. Carolyn Iwasa and to the Internal Medicine Team at St. Michael’s. Friends and relatives will be received at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Rd., Scarborough (between Eglinton and St. Clair Aves. E.) on Thursday, September 6, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate mom’s life will be held on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to Doctors without Borders or the charity of your choice.

WALSH, Lydia Maria (nee Waronek) – Passed away in Ottawa, Sunday, August 12, 2007. Predeceased by her husband, CBC Journalist, Bren Walsh on June 21, 1989. Left to mourn are son, Montreal musician, Tom and daughter Lydia Ann of Ottawa; sisters: Alice Clark, Cobden, Ont., Christine Reyda, Regina, Sask., and Terri Fitzgibbon, Vancouver, BC; brother John Waronek, Rock Glen, Sask.; grandsons: Nathaniel Walsh-Mercier, Montreal, QC and Brendan and Noel Walsh-Adonyl, Budapest, Hungary and a large circle of neices and nephews and all their families. Cremation has taken place. Burial to be held at Belvedere Cemetery, St. John's, NL at a later date.

ALLISON, Edward – Passed away at Calgary, Alberta, on August 20, 2007, Edward Allison, formerly of Riverhead, S.M.B., aged 45 years. Beloved son of the late Edward and Mary Allison. Leaving to mourn brothers James and Leonard and sisters Sharon and Donna and their families. Cremation has taken place on Saturday, August 25, 2007, in Calgary. A memorial service and inurnment will take place in Newfoundland at a time to be announced.

BOUZAN, Ellen (nee Crotty) – Passed peacefully away at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home, Calgary, Alberta, on Aug. 22, age 90 years (1917-2007) . Predeceased by husband Alphonsus; son John; brothers: Jack Crotty, Bill Crotty and Mike Ebbs. Left with fond and loving memories are son Richard (Frances); daughters: Marguerite Power (Ed) of Calgary and Catherine Bragg (Jim); sister Alice Quinn; brother Bernard (Mary) of Toronto; daughter-in-law Ellen Bouzan of New Brunswick; sister-in-law Angela Crotty; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a large circle of cherished relatives and friends including Vincent Bouzan (Theresa) of Ontario and Kathleen Carroll of Little Bay. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home LeMarchant Road on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Funeral service information will be given at a later date.

DRODGE, Norman – Passed peacefully away after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, Norman Drodge aged 84 years of Clarenville. Predeceased by daughter Lydia Jane; sisters Vera, Joyce, Sadie; step-brothers Eldon and Alfred. Left to mourn his loving wife and best friend Virtue of 63 years; son Tom (Dulcie); daughters Myra Moore (Wendell), Doreen Erbland (Mardon), Florence Bailey (Burley), Dolores Hutton (Eric), Dianne Lockyer (Ward); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Miriam King, Dorothy Stagg. Resting at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville, Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, from the Pentecostal Tabernacle, Clarenville, with interment to follow at the Interdenominational Cemetery, Clarenville. In his memory, flowers gratefully accepted or donation may be made to the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville – Cancer Fund.
