ORGAN, William Patrick – Passed away suddenly at his residence in St. John’s on October 14, 2007 after a short illness, William Organ, age 76 years. Leaving to mourn his wife Kay; son Jim (Dianne), JoAnn (Al Williams) and Janet (Kevin Battcock); two grandchildren: Michael and Allison Organ; sisters: Margaret Kirsebom (Peter), Louise O’Grady (Frank, deceased), Mary Maddigan (Courtney) and Elizabeth Moore (Leo, deceased) and many other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive relatives and friends at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with a grave side committal service to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

VELEY, Leonard William (1928 - 2006) – Retired manager of Blackwood Hodge Atlantic. Passed away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Friday, March 24, 2006, Leonard William Veley of St. John’s, aged 77 years. Predeceased by parents Robert and Mildred Veley. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his devoted wife of 47 years, Rita (nee Golden) . Daughters Sharon and Deanne, son Gordon (Edith), two grandchildren, Darryl and Leanne Veley, and three great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Hunter and Lilly. Also lovingly remembered by sisters Ethel (John) Shymko, Mable Benn, Lois (Levi) Duscharme, Bertha (Les) Mills, Isabelle Dusharme and Edna Kish, all of Ontario. Brothers Robert and David Veley, brother-in-law Bill (Shirley) Golden, sisters-in-law Minni Follett, Eleanor Wells and Eva Eddy. A number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and a large circle of friends. Resting at St. Andrew’s United Church, Whiteway from Saturday at 6 p.m. until time of funeral. The funeral service will be held from St. Andrew’s United Church, Whiteway on Monday, March 27 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Andrew’s cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Church Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo.

BOWERING, Howard M. (V01 HMB) – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 after a lengthy illness, of Foxtrap, age 71 years. He was a retired employee of the Canadian Coast Guard. Predeceased by his wife Phyllis (April 18, 2005) . Left with fond and loving memories, sons: Keith (Susan), Dundalk, Ontario, Glenn and Terry at home; daughters: Beverly, Mississauga, Ontario and Janice at home; precious grandchildren: Curtis, Mitchell and Shauna; brothers: Wallace (Elsie), Coley’s Point, Heber (Joyce), Gander, Calvin (Sherry), Gander, Ed (Audrey), Birchy Bay, Bill (Lorraine), Point Leamington; sisters: Gwen (Calvin Ralph), Port de Grave and Sylvia (Henry Mercer), Bay Roberts; special aunt, Gwen Bowering and family friend Eleanor Bowering; brother-in-law Bill Smith (Mary), Marystown; sisters-in-law: Stella Ernest, Albany, New York, Mary Ellen Power and Patricia Smith, Marystown; special friends: Amy and Eric Dodge, Ray and Daphne Rideout and Charlie Barnes. Visitation in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Wednesday, 3-9 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Funeral Service in All Saints Anglican Church, Foxtrap on Friday, September 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. Interment in the Anglican Cemetery, Dunn’s Hill Road, Foxtrap. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Cemetery Fund.

BUDDEN, Margaret Lillian (nee Bishop) – Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at the L.A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit, on September 18, 2007, Margaret Lillian Budden (nee Bishop), aged 68 years. Predeceased by her parents, Robert and Miriam Bishop, and her brother Fred. Leaving to mourn her husband of 48 years, George; daughters: Janice (Mike Fleet) of Brockville, Ontario, Jennifer (Bill Hunt) of St. John’s and Joanne (Bob Carter) of Halifax, Nova Scotia; son Geoff and daughter-in-law Suanne Reid of St. John’s; cherished grandchildren: Sarah Fleet, Joshua and Graham Hunt, Elizabeth and Daniel Carter, and Laura and Erica Budden; special friends, Mary and Merv Andrews; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation Wednesday, September 19, 2007 from 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place from St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 203 Logy Bay Road, Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 10 a.m. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery in Port Rexton, Friday, September 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the St. Mark’s Outreach Fund, providing assistance to individuals in the wider community who find themselves in need.

CRANE, Edgar Chesley – Passed peacefully away following a courageous battle with cancer at the Palliative Care Unit, St. John’s on September 19, 2007, Edgar Crane, in his 64th year. Predeceased by his father Jack, mother Laura (Guest); brothers Leonard, Francis, Edward and George. Leaving to mourn with warm and loving memories his wife Sandra (Hunt) of 42 years; daughters Kerri (Mark) Wareham and Lisa (Christopher) King; grandchildren Kayleigh and Jonah Wareham, Meghan, Alexander, Michael and Jacob King; brothers Gordon, Harold and Cyril (Barbara) of Ajax, Ont; sister Florence (Jiri) Call, Pickering, Ont.; parents-in-law Jack and Irene Hunt; brothers-in-law Derek Hunt and Geoffrey (Rose) Hunt; sisters-in-law Linda (Edward) Sharpe, Sherri (Robert) Slade, Calgary, AB; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, September 20, 2007, 7-9 p.m. and Friday, September 21, 2007 10-12 a.m., 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Cremation to follow. DALTON, Cornelius (Con) – Passed away suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at his home in Conception Harbour, Con Dalton, aged 64 years. Predeceased by his parents Him and Ellen, brother Kevin and sister Madeline. Left with memories to cherish are his wife Annie; sons Bill (Tonya) and Jim (Kristin); grandsons Brett and Zachary; brother John (Beth); sisters Peg Mansfield (John), Helen Lewis (Gerald), Gerry Dalton (Paul), Maureen Haskell (Reg); brothers-in-law Leo Terry (Maureen) and Bill Terry (Marie); sister-in-law Edna McGrath (Jack) and a large circle of extended family and friends. Resting at Conway’s Funeral Home, Conception Harbour. Funeral Mass to take place at St. Anne’s Church, Conception Harbour on Friday, September 21, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment to take place at a date to be announced. A special thank you to Dr. Lake and Dr. Boone and the nurses and staff of 4 North B of the Health Sciences Centre.

DAVIS, Isaac B.C. – Died suddenly at his residence on September 18, 2007, Isaac Davis, age 90 years. Owner and operator of the first Canadian Tire Store in Newfoundland and Labrador, charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Grenfell and life time member of the St. James United Church Choir. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Olive; children Marion, Cheryl, Robert (Dianne), Paul (Jill); grandchildren Jill Howlett (David), Nancy Handrigan (Peter Oleskevich), Kurt Handrigan (Daryl), Beth (fiancée Hussain Jamshidi), Jeffrey, Andrew, Mark and Stephanie Davis and Peter Phillips-Davis; five great-grandchildren Raphaël Srawley (Michelle), Emmanuel Srawley (Victoria), Georgia Handrigan, Karina & Grace Oleskevich; two great-great-grandchildren Jonah & Juliette Srawley; sisters-in-law Doris Garland and Ulrica Davis and a wide circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from St. James United Church, Elizabeth Avenue. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the St. James United Church Restoration Fund.

DENINE, John (Jack) Joseph – Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, age 82 years. Predeceased by his son Michael. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Helen (nee Whitten); daughters: Mary (Tom), Cynthia Strickland (Douglas) and Margaret (Robert); sons John (Mary) and Gerald (Diana); his dear grandchildren and great-grandchildren, five brothers, other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Thursday and Friday from 12 noon - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from St. John Bosco Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
