FAGAN, Cynthia K. – Passed peacefully away on Friday, October 12, 2007, age 73 years. Predeceased by her husband the Hon. Ralph E. Fagan (1987) . Left with fond and loving memories her children: Darroch (Margaret), Keith (Tanya), Cheryl (Brian), Lisa (Glen) and Lida; grandchildren: Selina (Zachary), Joachim, Benjamin, Kaylee, Liam, James and Kelsey; also, a large circle of other family and friends. Visitation in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; Monday 10-12 noon. HARRIS, Chesley H. – Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex, St. John’s on Monday, October 8, 2007, Chesley H. Harris of Carbonear, age 89 years. After 36 years working with Asarco in Buchans, “Safety Ches” retired in Carbonear (1982) . Predeceased by parents, John and Mary Ellen; sisters: Mildred, Lillian, Beatrice and Ethel; brother John. Left to mourn wife E. Frances; three sons: James (Ethel), Carbonear, Chesley, Glenwood and William (Erika), Dartmouth, NS; three daughters: Mary (Edward) Pridham, St. John’s, Audrey (Maurice) Mullins, Clarenville and Ethel (Wayne) Smith, Dartmouth, NS; eleven grandchildren: Jimmy Harris (Robyn), Nadine Pridham (Danny), Natasha Pridham (Robert), Dana Beaton (Sandy), Becky Barbour (Gordon), Craig Mullins, Patrick Harris, Shannon Harris, David Smith, Billy Smith and James Smith; one great-granddaughter, Nora Barbour; one brother, Wilbert (Mary) Harris, Carbonear; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Archdeacon Iliff Sheppard conducted the funeral service on Thursday, October 11th at St. James Anglican Church, Carbonear. Interment was in the Interfaith Cemetery, Carbonear. As an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to St. James Anglican Church, Carbonear. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Noel’s Funeral Home, Carbonear.
KELLY, John Joseph – Passed away suddenly in his 71st year at his residence in Middle Cove on October 11, 2007. Predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Kelly (Pine), infant sister Loretta and infant brother Thomas. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted companion, Carol; sisters: Mary Power (Ray), Eileen Kelly Freake (Barry), Theresa Morris (Peter), Clare Stamp (Rick); brothers: Michael (Jean), Patrick (Margaret), Harold (Maureen) and Nicholas (Donna Marie); also leaving to mourn his nieces, nephews and life-long friends Neil and Olga Chaplin, Gerry and Dulcie McCrindle and their families. John spent his lifetime as a well-respected dairy farmer in Middle Cove. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a member of the William Summers Jr. Rowing Crew who were inducted into the Royal St. John’s Regatta Hall of Fame. He was also a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 56 and the Fort Pepperrell Mess and Dart’s League. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Church, Outer Cove. Interment to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery Fund.
LEMAIRE, Naomi – Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony on October 11, 2007. Naomi LeMaire, originally from Locke’s Cove, aged 92 years. Predeceased by husband George (1989), brother Joseph (1997) . Leaving to mourn daughter Mary (Doug); granddaughter Kim (Barry); grandson Mark (Julie) and great-granddaughter Chelsea Allison; brother Bill (Jane); sister Bertha (Whyman) and Amelia, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will take place at Hickey’s Funeral Home on Monday, October 15, 2007 from 10 - 12 noon. The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. from All Saints Anglican Church, Foxtrap.
MURPHY, James B. – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre in the presence of his family, James Murphy in his 59th year, of Harbour Main. Predeceased by his son Ward, 2005, his parents: James and Teresa Murphy. Left with beautiful memories are his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Anastasia (nee Healey), his sons: Jimmy (Michelle), Enfield, N.S., T. Jay (Wanda), Upper Gullies, his daughter, Bella (Chad Hawco) Fort McMurray, Alta., five grandchildren: Nicholas, Alexis, Mitchell, and Liam Murphy, and Quinlan Fewer, also Quinlan’s mother, Jackie Fewer, his sisters: Gert (Jerry) Tobin, Gaskiers, S.M.B., Margaret Slack, Toronto, Marie Dean, Mount Carmel, his brothers: Vincent Murphy, Conception Harbour, Patrick Murphy, St. John’s, also a large circle of extended family and friends. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation on Sunday and Monday from 1 p.m.-9 p.m. Funeral will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, following 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from SS. Peter and Paul Church, Harbour Main. PARSONS, Ivy Louise (nee Anthony) – October 20, 1930 - October 8, 2007. Passed peacefully away at Kitchener, Ontario. Born on Pilley’s Island to Dorman and Martha Anthony. Beloved wife of Samuel Parsons. Loving mother to Robert (Stephanie), Helen Pelley (Neil), Elaine Goodyear (Graham), Donald, Keith (Jan); also leaving to mourn 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Pond (Ray); brothers: Frank Anthony (Hilda) and Roy Anthony (Marie) . Predeceased by brothers Reg and Wilbur. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society in her memory. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for her will be held on October 13, 2007.
PIKE, Victor Roy – April 26, 1917 – Oct. 12, 2007. At the beginning of a new day a quiet, kind, peaceful man left this world to join his lifetime partner in the Lord’s Garden. Predeceased by his wife Flora (2001) . Uncle Roy, as he was known to all, left to mourn family members, sister-in-law Elsie Parsons and numerous friends. Uncle Roy will be resting at Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo, with visitation Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14, 2-10 p.m. The funeral service will be held from St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blaketown, on Monday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow St. Barnabas Anglican Cemetery. POWER, Catherine Jane (nee Winsor) – Passed away unexpectedly at the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, October 11, 2007. Predeceased by her sister Donna Arlene. Leaving to mourn her beloved husband David; son Robert; parents John and Sarah Winsor; sister Beverley (Ray Laite); step-children: Melanie, Gregory, Zachary and grandson Jack; also leaving to remember her in loving memory are many close relatives, colleagues and friends, special aunts: Eva, Olga, Violet and Mime; uncles: Heber, Arthur and Carson (Duck); as well as many very special cousins and valued colleagues at O’Donel High School past and present, together with special friends Linda Laite (Stan), Joyce Hinson and her two darling puppies Halley and Zorro, all of whom she loved dearly. The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will take place on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. SAMSON, Albert M. – Passed away suddenly at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on Saturday, October 6, 2007, Albert M. Samson, aged 69 years. Predeceased by his parents, Mac and Reta Samson and sister Sandra. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Audrey; son Mike (Joanne) of Torbay, NL and daughter Joann Coxon (Jim) of Gander, NL; grandchildren: Ian Coxon, Michael Coxon and Emily Samson; brother Bill (Debbie) of Labrador City, NL and sisters: Betty (Frank) of St. John’s, NL, Barbara (Bert) of Sandringham, NL and Della of St. John’s, NL; as well as a large number of family and friends. Funeral service was held at St. Martin’s Anglican Cathedral on Wednesday, October 10 with private family inurnment at a later date.
